  • 64,000 PhDs are granted every year in the U.S., while less than 4,000 professorships open up (National Science Foundation). However, over 30,000 PhDs get employed in industry each year. Where are you putting your efforts?
    Watch this video to learn the 4 small things that hold PhDs back from transitioning into industry, and to learn what your PhD is now worth in industry (it's above $90,000)
    Don't be held back in your career by the following...
    -Gap on your resume
    -No visa/resident card
    -No industry experience
    -No recommendation letter
    - ...or any other limiting belief.
    The average academic postdoc salary is now only $46,142 in the U.S., while the average industry salary for STEM PhDs (including Social Scientists) is $95,823.
    Remember your value as a PhD because your PhD is valuable, just not in academia.

      I would love to... my training is in public health, specializing in Human Nutrition. I constantly feel like i'm stuck with academia or working for the government... I don't mind the latter, I mind it's pay scale.

      Hi Nophiwe. You don't have to feel stuck. It sounds like your experiences would be well-suited for industry. We work with a number of public health (and cognate field) PhDs in our Association. Have you looked into the resources we offer? You can learn more about us here: phdsgethired.com. We actually have enrollment open for our Association right now.

    Wow...sounds like your Phd/post-doc experience was much like my general surgery residency experience. Good to know there is hope outside of academia and clinical practice.

    Ok, I got that pursuing academic career in US is not a good idea. But what is that academic mindset one have to get rid of? Isn't it more then just 7:09 4 things that keep one stuck?

    • @CheekyScientist
      @CheekyScientist  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're right, it's the entire academic mindset keeping PhDs stuck. These are 4 common examples of limiting beliefs that we see PhDs telling themselves that are making them feel stuck. For you it might be another thought about how you are not qualified for a position in industry or that you think leaving academia is a failure. Getting rid of your academic mindset is about removing those limiting beliefs and being confident going after the industry job you want. What limiting beliefs do you think are holding you back?

    First of all thank you for your valuable suggestions. At present I am pursuing PhD and I came to hear that PhDs are a lot theoretical rather than practical, coming up with fantasy and non implementable ideas. So industries won't hire them. Could you please tell me your opinion over this.
