Generally there was at least one subtle cheater per team who didn't check any corners but was always positioned right and was hitting all of his running shots and sprays with no recoil. Valve has like 2 months before I think a massive portion of the player base leaves. Premier above 15k is almost unplayable with cheaters in 1/3 games. Comp is a waste of time because the ELO reset causes matches to be wildly uncompetitive. API sites have not detected a SINGLE player hitting Global in Comp yet because the single map ELO system is completely broken.

Over the past last years Valve has collected so much data of cheats, members that cheats that they should be enable to launch a good working VAC-system. They said it before the launch of CS2. The launch is now months in the past and the cheat-problem is getting worse day by day. Valve is starting to lose money because people are quiting with Counter-Strike. Here is a short story:
Played CS GO long time ago, with release of CS2 some of my friends jumped into it as soon as possible (return). I did not, but after few months I said, "why not, could be fun with friends like in old times". Rejoined some CS servers and "revived" some online friendships along the way. And it felt good to use skins from past days that were just sitting in my inventory.
    Elo: Silver - Prime account
Match one Dust 2 map: Since I did not play very long time my aim, sprey control, co-ordination was very poor. I struggled to get kill or even throw nades/flashes. Often would fail and was on bottom of scoreboard. Enemy team had a dude who went 35+ frags and managed to get kills through smoke and door. Idk if he cheated or not (for that) but I did not report since there are many players who played on that map 10+years and luck can happen. But HS ratio was 100% - hmmmm. Possible cheater who had great time imo.
Match 2 Mirage map: During that match I had internet problems and did not use team chat but rather Discord with my friend (snow storm in area). I was lagging whole match (well half match but we will get to that). I was at the bottom of frags, and doing 300 less dmg than rest of my team. I played - again- poorly. Then, puff, I get kicked out of match half way into with unable to re connect back. Took me 5 min to notice my game was under ban. (my duo friend told me match got terminated and that was their message on screen). I did not recive VAC or anything like that but actual GAME ban from Devs. I was so confused. I did not use cheats, I was not toxic (did not even use team chat) so I did not know what was the reason.
Now, I got kicked from almost every server and got a tag "Cheater/Do not play with etc". Even if I tryed to defend myself and say that is a false ban, everyone would say: You got ban, you are cheater, another one bites the dust, no excuse anti cheat works, you were reported and got service etc."
I did appeal to the ban. Got an email (automatic) that my case was reviewed and that there is nothing I can do.
7 days after my ban was removed. No explenation, no apology nothing. My though? Its possible I got ban from my lag since some others have, or was my Nvidia software that was still not fixed by Valve side. I did not even want to try to get back into CS again since damage was done and I felt hurt no one belived me. So I just unistall it and sold all my skins. Will never play that game again.

An important thing to highlight is how i felt watching this video. When he demonstrated the sound ESP, i literally thought to myself 'i could use that.' Which is insane to me, primarily because if you can come across that legit in a game of premier, then that means that the percentage chance of you playing against a cheaters who have a similar mentality (even if you end up winning the game or top-fragging) is still extremely high.
To think legit cheating has come so far, that it would be extremely difficult to tell the difference between a closet cheater and a real player is ridiculous. I am lost for words honestly. Not to miss the fact that it's suddenly obvious to me why cheating is so rampant:
    1. Cheat developers make bank
    2. There is a demand because if you are cheated against, naturally, a part of you, regardless of how noble, will want to cheat back.
There are 602 comments on this video at this current time, would it be fair to assume that at-least 10% of you are cheaters, or more perhaps? Especially if even i, watching this video, was totally shocked by how well made they are.

No spread, bhopping, trigger bots, Shooting through the map, shooting the entire mag at once, skin changing, not rendering smokes etc. is all stuff that could be detected with 2 lines of code on a server side check. Battlefield 1942 from 22 years ago had some of those server side checks that cs2 is still missing today.

from my experience (top 1% premier solo queue to 22k+) the cheating is not as pronounced as people think. I don't play CS2 nor hack or develop hacks for it, but this is just a gross oversimplification of a very complicated and nuanced topic-- either that or the guy genuinely doesn't know what he's talking about. Cheating can happen on any application, yes including non-games, simply because you're running a process locally. The only feasible way to stop the user's ability, from my understanding at least, to read and modify their own computer's memory is to have an incredibly invasive driver that, by necessity, would have a lot of control over the user's system, which is just obviously a terrible idea. I'm sure there's a lot of nuance that I'm missing out on here, and there are plenty of security specialists far smarter than me and far more knowledgeable in the subject, but even to me its very glaring that this guy is missing a lot of that same nuance and is making gross oversimplifications that provide no real benefit beside making mute points that don't address any real issues. Cheating is very obviously a massive problem from what i can tell, and there is almost certainly a lot to blame on Valve for it being such, but making claims that Valve can easily patch an exploit simply because it's open sourced is naive and ignores a plethora of important details that need to be discussed.
Also, it's very inappropriate to claim that Valve is intentionally ignoring cheaters without solid evidence, or at the very least some type of testimonial from someone who genuinely knows what they're talking about.
You shouldn't stop advocating for companies to step up their security practices, a lot of them really need to, but making mute and inapplicable points like this just distracts from the real issues that need to be focused on.

I feel that they made the API change so that people would stop selling their skins on P2P websites and hold on to their skins. As if you have hundreds or even thousands in skins in CS2, you are not quitting that fast, or just force people to sell their skins through steam.

For the safety regarding external and internal, external is mostly less safe. Lets say you make a wallhack and you need to read player positions. When an externally hooked program does that, it's very suspecious and easily detectable. An internal cheat not so much because i behaves under the hood of the game itself, which of course needs to read player positions all the time to move them correctly, render them etc. The game reading these values itself is far less suspious than an external program doing the same

As a Counter-Strike Source cheat developer, nothing has changed. Hackers and cheaters are still very easy to detect and ban, if only devs would listen, but in the end the game can only be updated by a programmer who's being paid. So if no one's being paid you can't fix. Can't fix what ain't broke. It's working as intended

Thank you for making these videos which shed a light on how bad the situation is. In NA around 13-15k ELO you start getting cheaters at least every other game, sometimes 3-5 games in a row who are so blatant it's not even funny.

Haha! Love it when they removed support for MacOS and other platforms, so they could, in quote ”focus more on updates”. Haven’t seen very many of those. Strange… if they had taken the time to fully create the game and bring support for all the OSs maybe their game wouldn’t be so garbage right now.

TBH the best defences for cheaters back in 1.6 we're allowing non-secure servers for people with "additional software" or "cheats" and they did exactly what he said and download what they can find to study for reverse engineering. There were just as many cheaters back then but they were rarely in legit matches.

I can not stand the argument that cheaters make that "well the devs make so much money off of cheaters..." that's the dumbest load of crap I have ever heard. First off if you make a game you want as many people as possible to play your game so you can be a long term profitable business. Cheaters destroy your bottom line. Cheaters need legit players to validated their ego. The legit players leave when faced with cheaters. then the cheaters leave because now the game is hard again. Cheaters and cheat devs are delusional. They forget to mention most cheaters buy legit stolen accounts for less than prime in most cases.

These cheating aholes are literally the number 1 threat to the game lmao. If valve could press a button and obliterate all of them at once, it will done in a heartbeat.. too bad that in reality we only have VAC

  • @caree_
    @caree_ 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I know people like to shit on Valve for their anticheat.. but having an AI anticheat like VACNET is definitely the future for games anticheats it just need to perfected and be accurate. Since people have already made cheats that does not even run anything on the PC so normal anticheats has no way to detect them so the only savior for that would be something like VACNET. It has been trained with data for years now from a ton of csgo matches that has been played but sadly it does not seem to be enough. But the though of having an AI anticheat is definitely the right move. The normal VAC anticheat also needs to do a better job.. I know Valve does not want VAC to be intrusive and that is why it does not seem to do as good job as other anticheats. But hopefully there will be a future where cheaters will actually get banned more frequently.. like in csgo there was cheaters going for years without getting banned which is obviously ridiculous to think about. CS is the only game I can think about that has two anticheat soulutions running at the same time (VAC and VACNET) but sadly it does not do the job yet.
    BUT..
People who has been playing cs for a long time will not come across many cheaters anymore though which is thanks to "Trust Factor" I very rarely meet cheaters now compared to before trust factor was implemented years ago. I can probably play 100 matches and only meet 1 or 2 cheaters. But sadly it will not be that good for everyone.. for example if I play on my smurf/ALT account I meet cheaters very frequently. And this is why we see a lot of players with completely different experiences.. luckly on my main account it is almost completely cheat free. And then there is the players who thinks anyone better at the game is cheaters... I have probably been called a cheater over a 1000 times by now from different players💀

"If you want your game to be competitive online, it needs to have a kernel level anticheat" No, it's a breach of privacy and it's a false layer of security, it just opens new doors for malicious people to use, it's not uncommon to make use of those kernel level stuff to install various malicious stuff, you can do quite a lot with something as vulnerable as that such as privilege escalation and bypassing antiviruses that whitelisted these trojans or even bypassing them because they literally start before the OS for some

I don't think Valve want's cheaters, but i think the engineers have other priorities, than using time on constantly updating a kernal based anti-cheat.

  • @MrLagzy

I have seen and read so many defeatist mentality in posts on reddit nearly every day saying that ban waves every few to several months is the best and only way to competitively deal with cheaters without falling behind - except the reality is that all cheaters laugh at those people. It's a defeatist mentality and basically giving up and just accepting that the game is just a cheaters paradise. Valve needs to have a far better anti-cheat, they need to do the cat and mouse dance, they need to ban as fast as possible and not wait, they need to do multiple ways as in both kernel-level anti-cheat, Overwatch and VACnet all combined needs to be available. Overwatch from CSGO was exploited a lot because valve never fixed loopholes (as was mentioned in a previous interview).
Valve's approach to anti-cheating is completely unacceptable on EVERY SINGLE PARAMETER. They have as far as now done NOTHING that has visibly dealt with the issue. They are a fucking disgrace for the competitive scene of their game. It's a complete joke. CS2 was launched way too early, the features in the game is missing, they removed CSGO at the same time, the game was buggy (though not as buggy as CSGO was at release, but the situation is different today, you'd expect that a sequel is equal to or better than its predecessor, but here it's just better graphics, but everything else is somewhat to way worse, bar the smokes). Valve's approach to anything regarding CS2 for now has been absolutely unacceptable.
Then again - we know Valve has become a money first - games last company (basically every choice they've ever done the past decade is choices that increases their profits, even if it's at the cost of gameplay) so their choices are always based on what earns them the most money. Anti-cheat doesn't earn them money so it'll never be even the bottom priority for them. If anyone can provide a reason why it'll earn them money and lots of it, it'll be a total gamechanger, but until then it's valve fucking us all over by doing nothing but making the next case with the next skins that people will crazily buy, because they don't know how to talk with their wallets. If we want valve to change we gotta hit them where it hurts and not just whine about it.

The example of the telephone signature should of been a dead give away that this guy isn't super far into actually reverse engineering and the fundamentals of how a computer handles code.
He explained it as if Valve knows the phone number when this is fundamentally not true. A lot of code will have a polymorphic state meaning everyone's version of the exact same cheat comes up as a different phone number. It's like someone spoofing there phone number and you block a spoofed number that does nothing. Along with valves anti cheat running at user level it makes it literally impossible for them to detect anything outside of userspace. If it wasn't for the fact valve never ever wants a single false ban they could with ease start banning people. But vavle believes in never having a false positive and I honestly respect them for that.

I'll never truly understand people who use cheats. I completely lose all of the wind in my sails when a game is too easy. There is no room for improvement, you're just at the top of the heap based on no merit at all. Unless you're a troll who loves gaslighting people, I see zero reason to install this garbage. Why use them to gain a high rank, when the rank will never truly be earned.

I will never be able comprehend cheating in a competitive game, isn't the fun part of the game knowing that your victory was earned? The only person you're cheating is yourself, and just wasting 9 other peoples time. Cheating is definitely a microcosm of larger mental issues and a corrupted moral compass.

Considering that cheat is free external base on unknown cheats im going to assume this man is not very knowledgeable on cheats. Also using window mouse events is easily detectable, I wrote a cheat for overwatch and was banned in 3 seconds after automating my mouse movement. This just reinforces what the man said and the reason people are getting banned in waves is because they will be more likely to rebuy an account where as if they got banned in 5 days they wouldnt want to rebuy an account. Adding kernel level anti-cheat would solve the cheating problem completely for about 1-2 months but once people create kernel level cheats the cheating gets bad. For instance valorant there was a cheater in 3/10 games in my immortal lobbies. Also since cs has been out for a long time i'm sure there is already kernel level cheats. AI Vac will probably completely revolutionize cheating the anti-cheat industry if they can have a viewer in every match watching the gameplay and detect cheaters visually by learning what cheaters do and noticing cheaters hitting crazy shots or playing crazy postions. Obviously this may be fairly expensive for valve but thats really the only sound proof way to prevent cheaters
