You should cut the pipe shorter and lift the bottom T up to the basket top, so there is a settlement space on the bottom. This will allow the swirl to gather the poop in the middle on the bottom and you need a drain pipe that extends to the center on the bottom.
I just bought a couple dozen Mussels, like the kind you eat. Freshwater bi-valve are fabulous filters, my pond has like algae and mud in it, but the water has been clear and doesn't smell for over a year now. Thanks for sharing your idea, i'll try this for a larger pond i am making plans for.
Nice and up there as the "BEST". I like it so much that I can not wait to get mine going! A fine hobby and I like Your set up. Excellent rockwork and must run on 2 pumps? Like to see it all finished. I like waterfalls at home and to stay home more often now but am 80y and still going! Richard in Australia
If your inlet site on the bottom of you bucket the pressure of the water we’ll just keep turn the muck around at the bottom. If you raise it off the bottom of the bucket it will let the muck settle in the bottom of the bucket
How often does one clean this filter system and how do you do it? Do you replace sponges and scrubbies and just throw them away or do you replace after rinsing them?
noteworthy: it's always better to have your pump taking care of the outflow. this greatly increases the lifetime of the pump as well as it's need for maintenance. pushing out clean water is always better than sucking in dirty water.
Bill Wright Believe it or not, I haven't had to do anything other than hose off the pads once every three months. Clear water, healthy fish, no issues whatsoever! I got lucky!
From my research, the elbows on the bottom will not make a good swirl filter because I believe you need a cylinder like container for that, also the basket and sponges also create restrictions on that, some people do the swirl part seperate, or put a small bucket in the inside then the water flows down to the bottom of the bucket.
I was about to say the same thing, that as his price approaches $100 (currently $70 or so at the beginning of this video), then we might just go for a commercial filter.
easy! your hands they're trembling. Over all this idea is great! thanks for posting.

Useful. Any chance of reverse flow from the inflow channel after switching off the pump?!
Nice filter system, what pump are you using and does it consume a lot of electricity to run ?
Thank you, your video was so clear for me thanks
Super cool video
George Gatti Thanks!
Just want to know what kind of pump did you use?

Karen Nash See above….simply hose off once every three or four months. Clear water, healthy fish!
Great job
Benaissa Ben Thanks!
If light cut off? Ur bucket will be empty n dirty water back goes to pound? Isnt it goes back?
I love this system however I find it hasn't been bringing a lot debrea can I run more than one of these systems off one pump?
+Julie DeVos-Sowden correcting people is fun for me, so don't take it the wrong way. =) "debris". LoL
It will depend on your pump, if it is able to take all the volume (or more) of your pond per hour, etc
Is the glue safe for the animals?

Airplant
Is the basket neccesary??
Why cant you install the inlet at the bottom and keep your outlet at the top?
if the power will shut off, most of the unwanted water and dirt will just go back to the pond again.
Great video. How is it working now?
good job
how many LPH your powerhead sir???
How do you clean it? and how often?
Do you replace the filter media or clean it off?
How does it work in a "Mucky" pond?

There really is no need to glue any fitting that will be under water. It makes cleaning it all out much easier.

I could see a cylinder doing a better job. However, the water does swirl nicely in this configuration. Thanks for watching!
Coach Greg b.
I built the same setup but spent about $40
Bobby Reynolds Nice!
