- Welcome! And Happy Vlogmas! In this inaugural vlogmas episode I'm very excited to share with you the yarns that were gifted to me by Windy Valley Muskox and chat about the projects I'll be making with them.
Will I finish before Christmas? Who knows??? But keep checking in here to see how things are progressing!

Hi Knitphen! The Muskox is so luxurious, and your friends and family that will get the shawls/scarves are going to love them.
For Christmas I have some diabetic socks (Alpaca Direct), the Glenfinnan cowl (Ann Tucker - Thistle Glen Designs) and the Lyle cap (Nancy Ekvall Blue Sky Fibers) and for no one in particular the Arne & Carlos 2023 Advent Christmas stocking. The stocking is not due for Christmas and it’s just a fun thing to work on here and there.
"No one in particular" is my favorite person to knit for. ;-) Those sound wonderful!

Hi Stephen coming to you from rugged Yorkshire, as a Nana I've been getting ready for handmade Christmas all year, ( to tune of partridge in a pear tree) 1 Knited selena Gomez jumper, 1 sewn 'Friends' makeup bag, 7 pair of knitted vanilla socks, 1 crochet Incredible Hulk, 1 crochet Spiderman, I Knitted gargoyle, 1 sewn cushion, 1 sewn pinafore dress, and just got a knitted dragon to gooooo🎉😊❤
Oh, wow!!!! You definitely need more than 12 Days to finish all of those!!! :) I remember when I was a kid, my grandma used to knit a sweater for all 9 grandkids. We'd put in our order at Christmas (colors, styles, images), then get the finished product the next Christmas. I didn't knit then, so I never fully appreciated the work that went into it all, but now I realize what a Herculean task it was! So kudos to you! They'll remember these gifts forever!
Hi Stephen, I’m working through 2 advent calendar projects. One is the Well Traveled Wrap using my Outlander inspired advent by Smash Knits and the other is a pattern I’m making up as I go using Beehive yarns. I did post one Vlogmas but yes you are correct, lots of time to make.
Ooooh, I bet the Outlander Advent was a lot of fun! I don't know if you kept score, but I only made it through 4 Vlogmas episodes! D'OH!
I can imagine videos take a day to shoot and polish. I think I saw someone doing a weekly compilation of advent/vlogmas.
I'm glad you met Giovanna at Rhinebeck, she is as lovely in person as anyone I've met in the knitting world. (I could be slightly biased.)
I think many people who have a platform and are kind, choose not to publicly review things they genuinely don't like. Phil Rosenthal even said that he doesn't show things that he doesn't like.

Holidays love to you Stephen, I'm knitting mostly hats for presents this year. Finished objects: 2X Purlsoho classic ribbed free pattern with Malabrigo Mecha (not the pattern recommend gauge ), 2X Musseburgh pattern, using Ewe American Yarn - Twisted Sport (6 st. per inch). Planning to start Malabrigo Mechita, and a lot of locally dyed sock yarn. Also ordered from Freia, (not sure when it will arrive), 1 pair of socks, and 2 shawl cakes for a big shawl. Need to disclose, I spent a day in Northampton, MA this week and got holiday gifts (one fun day for all gifts!), so the knitting will be extra love and there is no stress for me.
That's the way to do it! I love malabrigo mechita; the hat I wear daily through the winter was made from it.
I snooped on their website earlier this week and may order some yarn for my birthday in January. I am currently knitting fingerless mitts with NZ wool my niece brought me that is merino alpaca and possum!! It is a dream to knit and very warm.
You won't regret it! Their yarns are divine!

@knitphen7232 I am. I saw the finished scarves. Lucky ladies to be so well loved. My remaining aunt has a huge blanket I made several years ago. She loves it, but I think it's too heavy for her now that she's in her 80's.
Just finished knitting a Christmas stocking for my son in law and now back working on a C2C Red truck Christmas afghan for myself
I just googled that pattern to see what it looks like, and wow! So cool! Did you finish in time for Christmas?

Did you get the gift for your cousin done on time? No, I didn't get to see X, my last outing to the opera was to see La Boheme (which I might have mentioned in this Vlogmas episode, but right now I can't remember...). As for my next...I need to look at the Met calendar and see what's coming up...
Hi Stephen. My cousin Jacquie and I went to hear Leah in the Verdi Requiem and the eye piece from my ancient opera glasses came off and was lost.
A mysterious box arrived before Christmas. A surprise from my cousin not to be opened until the 25th. (Unfortunately, not a surprise, as the company she bought it from sent me all the related emails for the purchase.....so I knew early on that I wanted to come up with a special surprise for her.) A scarf!
Ultimately, I decided I don't know what my cousin's likes are or even, the colors she wears. Biggest also....Is she even knit worthy? (Her Facebook held no clues.)
I need to do some very sneaky research and hopefully surprise her one day. And I need to look at the Met calendar as well. Best wishes for 2024, filled with all you love and enjoy!@@knitphen7232

It was fun making these vids a bit more frequently, if not *quite* every day. ;)
unfortunately I am not gifting any knitting for Christmas Because...life is too expensive these days and the pressure for everyone to gift the whole family is oppressive, so in consideration i am keeping my knitting under control - alas!!
It's true, although I get around it by not promising anyone anything....that way they won't know if I never got things finished. ;)
Yay I love that you're doing Vlogmas! Those are going to be some gorgeous scarves. Interesting to know how the different blends hold up - I imagine the 100% will pill more than the silk blends?
Two of my friends had babies in November, so I'm knitting two Flax sweaters in sparkly gradient Christmas yarn :) I do them two-at-a-time, like socks, so I don't get bored and definitely finish both :> Also our director of music really liked my sparkly purple Advent socks, so I'm knitting him some sparkly Christmas socks. Just a vanilla pattern with a Fish Lips Kiss heel. I try to do the construction bits (cuff, heel, toe) at home so I can do the round and round stockinette wherever and whenever.
I'm not too sure about the pilling just yet -- we'll see in time. There was no evidence of it at the time I handed the scarves over at Christmas. Socks are such a great on-the-go project. I bet he loved them!
