virtually useless? hardly! Photographers have used what is available and made great use of it since the 19th century. Great photographers are those who can use and make the best of what they have, not how expensive or how many fancy add ons they have!

I love the Canon 40D. Today I own new modern cameras, but still have my 40D and it works like new

Thank you for this appreciation of the 40D. I've owned mine since early 2008 and, while I added a 5D4 in 2017, I felt no need to sell off the trusty 40D. Even added an OEM battery grip recently to ensure longer shooting with Live View. While it has the limitations of its era, it remains a solid shooter with lovely colors out-of-camera, plus the APS-C crop sensor does have the bonus of extending telephoto range when needed (as long as one can stay within conservative ISOs). It was interesting to come upon so many YT videos about using this model in the 2020's. I especially enjoyed yours in terms of viewing your shots with it and listening to your insightful comments. In this throw-away era, it's a great feeling to create attractive images with a camera so many generations from "new." I've also taken to using it with some favorite vintage M42 lenses via focus-confirmation chip adapters and have been loving the results there as well. Compliments on a fine review!

You forgot to mention the beautiful colours that come out of the 40d that are very similar to 5DC , some of canons most organic and film like from a digital sensor 👍

I still have my Canon 10D which I bought from the used market back in 2016 is just a mere 6.3MP camera but believe it or not it still works amazingly and competes with the likes of my Canon 1500D which is a decade and a half newer camera than 10D. See it's not a smartphone that it will be obsolete in under 5-6years, it's a DSLR so you just need to get some high quality lenses and it will continue to give good results for decades to come.

I love my 40D. I love the simplicity of it and the colours which are much more true to life than more modern units

I have my #1 copy since 2007. It was a semi-pro body, with al-mg alloy body, so being better build, than the 60D to 90D, with their simplistic polycarbonate shell. Slap on the 15-85 IS USM, or 24/2.8 prime, and you do have two very decent lenses for that body. And of course, there's also the excellent 11-18 IS STM, 55-250 IS STM. I've bought all Canon EOS 10D to 50D, but the 40D is still what i am using the most. Also own the 5D & 5D Mark II.

I have a 40D who's for my parents and they gave it to me today. She's still in a good way and I take it with me when I go camping in scout. Easy to use and very good quality.

I got mine yesterday for $65usd, with 41.000 shutter actuations and the body in very good condition, no dents, marks or scratches, and with a 16gb fast compact flash card.

I've got one of these and love it, it just does what it was designed to. I've been saving up money to upgrade but I really don't think I'll see much of an improvement. Low light conditions are where I find it weak, otherwise its great.

When my 70d died earlier this year I was almost considering this or 50d as I only had $150 on hand lol. Then got a very good deal and got a used 7D 2 for $300 instead, my sister loaned me the rest.

As long as you are happy and the 7D II performs as you expect, then the latest MILCs are irrelevant to you. Old is gold in the right hands.

Nice retro review! Also, you're in Croatia, right? What a beautiful area from 3:30 to 3:41! Of course, people in modern times are generally only capable of building crap, which is likely what is going up at 3:19. At any rate, at least your country preserved some of what they are unable to build these days.

Hello, I have two options to buy:
    Canon 40d (for 150$)
    Or
    Nikon d3000 (for 100$)
Both in great condition with 18-55mm lens
Which one is better for me? This will be my first camera

I wonder how 2021 cameras and electronics will be perceived 15 years from now in 2036.

I was just wondering..Can you give me the camera?? If it's not useful for you. My country had a huge money inflation so I'm out of money. I'm trying to learn photography so I really need one.😅
