I do the same thing with my English accent. Once you’ve had people continuously comment on how you talk within the first few words, you figure out how to try to match the other person’s accent in the beginning, then gradually slide into my native accent after a few minutes.

2020 was a bad year, John lost some of his hearing in an ATV accident.... I lost most of my hearing at a Whiskey Myers concert.
