      I think that's why House of Commons broadcasts feel more normal than Senate / Congress one; they're both using flowery language, but the former is more likely to have people interrupt or give reactions in the background like any normal person would.

    It would actually be an interesting module to create for UK schools. Take a few TV shows that have covered a few different government departments and give young people an overview of how government really works. It would help young people with their civic duties and understandings as to why things are the way their are etc.

    As a retired member of the US Foreign Service, the Foreign Secretary’s take on the Diplomat showed a fun commentary on how diplomats and viewers should view this show. There are elements which must offer realism and truth and there are elements which need a bit of ‘context cooking’ and over the top drama to make the show sing as a great TV show. The Diplomat has the perfect mix. As for the appeal of Foreign Secretary Cleverly vs. David Gyasi, I think it’s a toss up as to who takes the lead on handsome and charming.

    • @bodobleicher5159
      @bodobleicher5159 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      experimental? There is no mix. Pure Documentation. Its fascinating, how Crowdstrike shows us the deepnies about always having a handsome bag full of tea. Not that a lot of us would love to see how america plays this year out. But as always, its a game of crowns. So context cooking would be, to fill the Welfen bag with angelsaxons tea. Instead of having enough cookies to enjoy the american year.

    • @bodobleicher5159
      @bodobleicher5159 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Because it could go down the other way. If Crowdstrike wasnt a strikebreaker, and the other Side of the Documentation plays stupid, there never was a experimental thing in common. Just some dudes who have texted a lot about a szenario, whithout more than playing it thourgh. If Crowdstrike wasnt die Code-Founding Use of ChatGTP to update the Intel 486I and having an issue about middle europeans young historic problems, instead of cleaning up the problem, it would take years to zertifcate the dudes, because in that case, the state of the dudes has a lot to explain. More than a lot. Because one of the dudes shouldnt be getting out of the security footage of society.
      When i would be one of the dudes .... *Tom Baker laugh* ... i would prefer to play stupid this days. Its enough how we get to Assange and how the game of roses has lost control. When we ask the americans, the experiemtal part cant end, because, we use its since 20 years.

    So in the UK federal departments are called ministries but they call the cabinet ministers secretaries?

    • @JKLoans
      @JKLoans ปีที่แล้ว +27

      They used to be called ministries, the shift overtime was towards being called departments (with some retain the moniker _'office'_ and others for traditions sake retaining _'ministry'_ like the Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Defence). Also, the UK does not have a federal political structure, so no such 'federal departments' exist.

    • @timelord2024
      @timelord2024 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@JKLoans Isn't Uk follows unitary structure ?

    • @positivelyacademical1519
      @positivelyacademical1519 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The short answer is there’s no rhyme or reason to it and you can call the departments “department,” “department,” “office,” “ministry” as a prefix or suffix or even use “department of state for” as a prefix. The department heads can be called “secretary,” “minister,” or “secretary of state” (though minister is technically incorrect).

    • @mqxogames
      @mqxogames หลายเดือนก่อน

      The UK is a unitary executive so they dont have federal departments.
      Their cabinet bodies can be called Offices, Ministries or Departments.
      The Cabinet head of the body is called the Secretary of State for X.
      I.e. the Ministry of Transport is headed by the Secretary of State for Transport, and the Northern Ireland Office is headed by the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.
      Ministers are junior cabinet members under the Secretaries typically responsible for specific policy areas, for example under the Home Office, led by the Home Secretary, there is a Minister of State for Crime and Policing, who is also subordinate to the Ministry of Justice.
      Finally, "Permanent Under-secretaries of State", or typically just "Permanent Secretaries" are the highest grade of Civil Servant, and as career civil servants are not inherently political appointees, in that the PM cant remove them at will, but between them and an independent body a PS will be chosen. They are tasked with the day to day operations of their department or responsible area.

      Russia: no diplomacy at all taking place, so that would be boring. China: also none, next. Central Asia: a perfect example of how routine diplomacy is supposed to work, so like an Office take of the Diplomat? Has potential. Middle East: that's been done very well multiple times, showing the richness of the mix of power politics, corruption, and business.

    First off, it's a bloody fictional TV show, not a documentary. Second, compression of events is critical or the show becomes boooooring. Not going to see the actual protocols used because they are booooring. Can't devote 25 minutes of a 50 minute episode to all the nit noisy players involved in setting up meetings. Boooooring. Third, if Kate Wyler was already a PAS in the DoS (or any Federal agency) then under the Federal Vacancies Act of 1998 POTUS absolutely has the authority to send her to London "in a couple of days".

Compromises on content is a given it being fictional, My only real concern is that the Foreign Secretary regards this as a good use of his time. That last explains more than perhaps he had wished.
