Finally! Been waiting for you guys to start including the Philippines in Taiwan contingency scenarios ever since the country had a dramatic shift of bilateral relations with the USA starting last year.
I heard recently that while the U.S. missiles have a smaller warhead they are programmed to hit the Command deck or the missile mags rather than simply aim center mass... Thus knocking a ship out of action sooner than a simple hit point reduction. Thoughts?
The sensors the US uses are incredible-for example, the Patriot missiles always aim for the warhead section of incoming enemy missiles or the canopy section of fighters (oof) and the system can even distinguish between decoy warheads and the real deal so I think it’s entirely possible that the SM-6 can distinguish and target particular features of a giant ship (comparatively speaking).
Yeah, that was my biggest problem with this simulation. The 055 was completely crippled and one of the 052Ds got smacked in the face with at least 3 SM-6s but both continued to operate as if they were completely undamaged. An SM-6 probably won’t sink a ship unless it hits a magazine, but it could absolutely mission kill one in a single hit.
Absolutely not. The sm-6 uses an active radar seeker which you are right would help you hit small targets but it would not be able to differentiate from areas of a ship.
@@collinwood6573 No, the biggest problem is that US used non existing equipment. USA only have F-15EX and they have no Aim-110D3, an US destroyers only have 16 SM-6, 8 SM-3 and 30 SM-2 ER onboard, plus 16 ESSM. US navy don’t use SM-6 in anti ship mode, obviously they can, they can use SM-2 and ESSM to, all SAM can be used like this, in all nations, but they don’t because they have a small 64 kg proximity fragmentation warhead, it explode before impact, can’t sink a major surface ship. And mission kill…No, you don’t mission kill 10 000 ton ships with a missile like that.
38:52 I would say a slight win for the US on the flottila-front, since they just can get back to the next port to rearm, whereas one enemy ship is in need of heavy reapairs (out for at least a couple of weeks, maybe months) and one is damaged (so probably at a week of repair added). So in the next encounter the US would have all it's ships vs 1 or even 2 ships less from the Chinese and that advantage would only rise with time
Keep in mind they cut out the aftermath. There are still the other US bases in the area within range plus the Philippines aircraft can land and rearm with anti ship missiles. The Chinese task force had nothing left to defend themselves so they would have all been sunk within the next two to three hours. The US forces are likewise out of missiles but are much closer to friendly territory with enemy reinforcements being much less certain and they therefore have a much higher chance of escape.
@@collinwood6573 I don't think China is disadvantaged if you count the aftermath. They have 6-7 airfields within 1000km of the Scarborough Shoal. PLARF has also got a range of cruise and ballistic missiles such as the CJ-10 and DF-21D. No ship would survive till replenishment in such a fight...
Your reminder to watch the whole briefing was certaily recieved. It landed straight on that bit after id skipped 😂. Sort of felt personal so I've rewound and am watching the entirety 😂
Good simple simulation. I love stealth planes and stealth missiles - but after a while they can also be a bit dull especially when fighting non-stealthy adversaries.
What would happen if all the crappy missiles got fired first since you know that the enemy are going to drain their reserves of defensive missiles to take them down? You'd then be left with the high impact weapons being more likely to make it through question mark?
I think I heard the standard missile 6 can also take out those dangerous hypersonic anti ship missiles? Correct me if I'm wrong though, the standard missile 3 are the crappy older ones right?
@@Spendingryan definitely not. You are getting them kind of mixed up I think although they are both new and very good missiles. SM-3 is a special exo-atmospheric anti ballistic missile while SM-6 is a general purpose missile, a more modern version of SM-2 with over the horizon targeting capabilities. You are thinking of SM-1 or SM-2 as the older missiles.
I have a theory that reason why the philippine F-50 fighting eagles were taking so long was because they wanted the americans to be their vanguard or something like that
I hope a Philippine Senator sees this video. Thank you for a comprehensive and very enlightening simulation of a battle in SCS / WPS. P.S. Doesn't the Chinese artificial islands have any land based batteries?
China didnt use any of their 5th gen J20s in this fight either, I think theyre trying to simulate closely matched scenarios rather than realistic ones.
I wonder if the US is going to load up a bunch of maritime strike tomahawks on a SSGN and use that for a swarm attack on PLAN shipping. Obviously can’t be modeled in DCS right now, but would be cool to see.
I think the fleet that opens up first with anti ship missiles has an advantage because they begin firing just within their radar defection capabilities but the reacting fleet does not have/ have worse radar targeting information else they would have fired first. As such, the defending fleet would have to guide its anti ship missiles using real time satellites, indirect reconnaissance and weak radar signals, yielding lower missile reliability and an inherent disadvantage compared to the attacking fleet.
The weaker guidance and targeting of the defensively fired anti ship missiles is much more vulnerable to countermeasures and could be neutralised in terminal phase by purely electrical & optical measures
Great battle… I don’t think Japan will just sit down if this happens… And Australia would probably join the fray… If the Philippines successfully acquires F-16s and Gripen E fighters as reported, this will make the situation for the Chinese harder.

iI hope you guys can do a rerun once the Philippines get their two or three squadron of Gripens (C) and more Brahmos in a couple of years. I believe they also ordered more HiMars as well.
Similar to The Battle of the Coral Sea, America foiled the plans of the enemy forces, while taking similar casualties. So, US/PI strategic victory, but tactical draw.
That AIM9X at 36 minutes, I think it was tracking and could have made the kill but the angle its seeker head was tracking the target went past 90 degrees and the seeker couldn't look hard right far enough so it lost it and stopped its hard turn... then it reacquired lock as the jet flew past its nose and it tracked again
China has 9 055 destroyers, all of which will be sent down south in this likely situation, without mentioning cooperate strike from the rocket force, J-20s, J-10s, J-16Ds and H-6K. All of which can easily reach strike distance without areal refueling

An important element you missed in most of your videos is the CDCM(coastal defense cruise missile). They play a very important role in countries without strong navy presense. Mobile CDCM are very hard to hunt down, and can fire enough AShM to saturate any defense. They're the main reason Russia lost control of the western part of the black sea, as the presense of the CDCM is too powerful. Edit:VL-LRASM pls
I'd rather get ship with cruiser missile. India is a two faced country. They sell arms to Russia. Wont be surprised if they suddenly join China. Imagine a defective Brahmos sold to Philippines. Countries should be wary of India intent.

Cap turned off the carriers ability to fire because it has the russian anti ship missiles on it that China doesnt have so it wouldnt be a valid "kill" on the CV so it was mainly about getting the destroyers taken out. One was dead and 2 were hit. The anti-ships from Philippian forces would have re-armed and attacked and the 2nd forces from Okinawa would have anti-ship weapons - so this fight was won and was over. They had no more missiles left to defend with so they would have been sunk.
IMO the PLAN should be at more of a disadvantage since their likely bases would be farther than HK, they’d likely come from Guangzhou or Sanya. USW and subsequent attrition of the Chinese occupied Spratlys are also likely and fair game in this scenario
In the end the Chinese CV got hit by the anti-ship missiles and you skipped it! xD Doesnt matter anyways. So with this new addons and stuff, you can slowly re model all of the CSG battles. I want to see a UK vs US CSG battle. With all the modern UK and US assets available including the Type 26 Frigates.

Correction: Philippines does have over the horizon anti ship capability since it recently acquired a few batteries of the Indo-Russian BrahMos anti ship cruise missiles.
I would've at least included the Jose Rizal frigates in this. I mean perhaps theres just no models or anything for them but for only being 2600 tons theyre not awful
Enjoyed that. Just one question - could you time the launches of the hypersonics so they arrive at the same time a the mach 2 missiles? is it even possible?
And we all know that the United States currently does not have the ability to intercept hypersonic missiles... But he has to set it up this way because most of his TH-cam followers cannot accept the real situation.
Great work as always Cap. I have no idea how you put out a new video every day with new ideas. War is amazingly interesting. I hope your health is doing better. Have a great Sunday sir.
So 12 anti ship missles the Phillipines navy have and you don't launch because you think they're inconsequential. It's still 12 they'd have to account for and fire upon aiding to attrition and a couple might just get through. Also, DCS ships needs hit compartments like world of warships. That some ships took 3 hits and continued on as normal because it's based only on a health bar is messing with accuracy.
The simple answer is no. The Philippines need the assistance of other countries such as the US, Australia, Japan, and S. Korea for it to survive an all-out attack from China.
@@grimreapers Wow, what a great use of taxpayers' dollars. I guess that's what happens when your google search is just millions of questions about missle and airplane technology. Quite a compliment in the end

Also the PH seems to be planning to make their AF and Submarine force as the ship killers with how little surface to surface missiles the PH PN vessels are designed with. Highly focused on ASW and AAW.
The Philippines can't. That's why it has strengthened, deepend and broadened its alliances with the US, Japan, South Korea, Austraila and EU countries.

@@mng8680 That would be a realistic respond, since China is the big bully in the region. Smaller countries would unite over China even they have there own disputes. The Philippines is also in the process of receiving their land-based Brahmos anti-ship missile system, 3 batteries of it. The two frigates the Philippine Navy has have C-star anti-ship missiles which is also from South Korea, and the 2 corvettes and 8 OPV that is already under construction in south Korea will also have the C-star anti-ship missile system. The 3 Hamilton class we recieved from United States is already upgraded with modern combat management systems and sensors that can now use harpoon anti-ship missiles though the Philippine government has not yet decided if those three Hamilton's will be up armed with missile systems.

@@MrCastodian You're the expert.
Cap and his FIRE EVERYTHING button !!! 😂
Best button for sure!
My wife says I FIRE EVERYTHING a bit too soon 😂

In a future video, Brahmos antiship missiles might need to be considered.
Good simple simulation. I love stealth planes and stealth missiles - but after a while they can also be a bit dull especially when fighting non-stealthy adversaries.
Same thought, that's what's on my mind when the taiwan starts to build stealth boats. I mean, they're fighting the front lines, so that won't help it.
What would happen if all the crappy missiles got fired first since you know that the enemy are going to drain their reserves of defensive missiles to take them down? You'd then be left with the high impact weapons being more likely to make it through question mark?
Your plan is the missile swarm tactic but on a budget so it should still work.
The problem is sm-6 is not very crappy. It is extremely expensive and probably would not be used in this manner

A successful defense is a sure win.
