Really appreciate you doing a video on this. I'm probably going to have to do it to mine as my dealer has also been useless in getting the trunk separation resolved. I might try applying some heat when prying the cover off, that might help avoid the cracking you experienced.
I didn't take the lid completely apart like you did, but once I noticed that mine was separating, I used VHB double sided tape to reseal the sides. That was several months ago and it's still holding. I knew the dealership would be of little or no help.
@@danielsoto_toronto I only had separation on one side, so it wasn't necessary to take the whole shell off. I just took the wing off and popped the affected side loose. Since the shell is plastic and long, there's tons of flex along its length. I had plenty of room to get the old tape out, clean the surface and apply new high strength tape.
Thank you! It was definitely a frustrating dealership experience, their communication was lacking. I’m more upset with the poor design my Hyundai. I love my car and most everything about it, but the trunk is not my favorite part, it’s a stupid issue to have.
It sucks it came to this for you, but at least you know exactly what you did and can further troubleshoot if necessary. The only thing I could think might help, would be some padded C-clamps on the outer edges to VERY gently squeeze the lid against the actual trunk, maybe overnight to let the adhesive "set" to some degree? Either way, hope this finally gets it for you 👍
@@michaelfernando9336 From what I could tell, the spoiler is a single piece. You may be able to separate the middle riser from the spoiler but not the ends.
I’m sure it could, you would just need to be careful, so you don’t hurt the paint. Since mine has been off a few time by the dealership, it really wasn’t that bad.
Actually had an elantra N at the dealer I work at that I had replaced as at the factory they had stripped 2 of the nut-serts, and in the reinstall I had added and extra strip of double sided 3M tape along where they would apply it in the factory and after all that I feel bad for if anyone ever has to remove that shell as I don't believe it'll ever come off now
I had it designed by Vengeance Graphix. Then printed the file and installed it on the car. My wife and I have a vinyl business, so we’re familiar with installing vinyl. vengeance-graphix.com
Once again another A+ tutorial for another common problem. Too bad they only "fix" it back to manufacturer spec just redo the tape properly how it should be or they'll just have to keep replacing it every month under warranty 🤦♂️ Hyundai should do a recall or something on the shitty tape job
I was trying different things since this was my first time removing the trunk cover and there were no guides on how to do it. Luckily, it was a very small crack.

Yes, as long as you’re careful, I’m sure heat would help.
Just the video I was looking for. Thank you very much. I had to remove the cover for the reversing camera malfunction. the video was very useful.
@@enginbilgin6047 You’re welcome! I’m glad to hear it helped.

Did you just squeeze some tape in the gap?

@@jasonwolfe1305 amazing, saves a ton of work, thanks for the tip
This is awesome. We can diy ourselves. Thank you so much. Very detailed and helpful.
You’re welcome! Thank you!
What a nice complete job no half ass ,very nice, dealers sometimes do a half-baked job

Good suggestion
Nice job! You know what they say! If you want it done right do it yourself 👍
Do you think it would be possible to make an extension or make new and taller mounting for the spoiler? Is the spoiler one piece once off the trunk?

I wonder if a heat gun would help remove the cover eaiser?

How long does it take to remove the double side tape trunk skin off ? I wanna install adro v2 spoiler that requires to remove trunk skin off.
@@EpikHans I don’t remember the exact time. Maybe 1-2 hours. It wasn’t terribly long.

Yeah, that’s why I didn’t want to over so it by adding a liquid sealant. I didn’t want to make it impossible to remove.
How did you made that N logo on the side of your car?

I live in the tropics and never had a problem on my elantra N any of that and here its always 90 above
I’m glad you’ve had good luck with your car. It’s not a fun issue to have.

I agree!
You should’ve more than 1 tool that way it wouldn’t crack

Invest in a hair dryer or heat gun next time
You’re correct, heat would make removal easier.
The car is a wonderful performer but this is one of many reasons of why is so cheap vs others.
Hyundai warranty dealers sucks
Why in fck under trunk theres no clear coat for such expensive model
