    I wonder why S5 Steel doesn't have any Hamon on the sword?

    • @Psycho-Ssnake
      @Psycho-Ssnake 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I assume it is because of it being a through hardened blade and not differentially hardened. I don't think I heard him say anything about the method.

      They could have put a hamon on the blade during forging, but they didn’t for two possible reasons:
      1) This was a prototype and they didn’t want to waste time putting one on there.
      2) if the sword was not made in the traditional way i.e. folded steel, then not putting one on the blade was a way to differentiate it from more traditional swords. Monosteel swords don’t need a hamon the same way swords made from tamahagane do.

      Modern steel doesn't need one

      @@anathar8830 There are also some steels where a hamon just doesn't show up or is very barely noticeable due to certain elements in it's composition. I've actually never seen an S5 blade with a hamon so it could partially be because it wouldn't show up well and if that's the case there's really no point in differentially hardening S5 because it would take away from the shock absorbing properties at the edge that S5 is very well known for when through hardened.

    I’m new to katanas(Ghost of Tsushima led me here) so I did a couple days of research and the purchased Shadow Dancer Kanmuriotoshi Zukuri S5 Steel Tameshigiri Katana off of swordis. Donyou think that’s a good “first katana” or are there other katanas in the 700-1000 dollar range you can recommend me for my future katanas collection? Not only by shadow dancer but others as well?

    Would this be virtually the same as the one you had custom built from them or is the weight/shape different in their custom builder. I would like this sword only with some additions like nicer leather wrap and a few other things but I don't want to lose the cutting ability this sword has.

    Hey thank you so much for doing this review. I am in the market for a temeshigiri katana to use at my dojo. My very first one. I bought a cloudhammer from RVA but didn't like the sword so it will be going back. Tried to like it... Didn't work out. I have decided to order a custom temeshigiri katana from shadow dancer. One question I have for you is on their ZXN-275J steel which they advertise as their top of the line and which costs 100 more than s5. What are your thoughts on it if any. 100 dollars is not that much to pay for nicer steel on a sword which will hopefully serve me a long time.

      If you're just using it for training and practicing some movements, then the quality of the steel doesn't seem as crucial.
      However, if you choose to use it for cutting activities or temeshigiri, then the specifications of the blade come into play at this point. ZXN-275 is a very good choice.

    Bit over the seven min mark. In regards to how you attach to the sword through the grip. 100% if the new brickies trowel ain't right put it back.
