Your video is spot on so thank you very very much!! The install took approx. 1 hour and I used the same camera you recommended from Amazon which was plug and play. No programing required. FYI The old camera was not only blurry but it was upside down which I'm told is another common issue. The new camera is clear as glass and right side up so I'm trilled as I saved over 700 dollars because the dealer was quoting 500 for camera and 350 to install. 👍👍👍👍

Hey Dan, I FINALLY got around to replacing the backup camera and the reverse lights. The image is super clear, and the reverse led lights are pretty bright! My son helped me. The only issues we had was one of the little plastic tabs on the camera housing snapped as soon as I moved it, lol.

Thanks for the feedback. Yah, very little on this car, but then again, this was sort of a flop for Ford. Only 10-30K/year sold, so not a lot of people even own these cars. If you do this, let us know how your camera replacement work out.

Thanks for posting this video. I have had the same issue with my backup camera for the last 80,000 miles.
This was just the motivation I needed to order a replacement camera.
I look forward to seeing your battery replacement video in the future.
My batteries started going bad at 37,000 miles. They quickly deteriorated to only 9 miles to a charge by 42,000 miles on the vehicle. I took it to the dealership. They told me this was normal wear of a battery???
I now have 120,000 miles and still get 9 miles to a charge.
I love everything about my C-Max..... Except the Ford dealership!!!
    UPDATE:
Order the camera you suggested from Amazon. With the help of your thorough video, had it installed in less than an hour.
    Thanks so much Dan!!
The only thing I would do differently if there's a next time, is to order the actual OEM camera for another $50 off eBay.
The aftermarket camera is very clear and fits perfectly. But gives me a slightly different view that I need to get used to. AND more importantly, the lines on my camera no longer matchup with the outer edge of my vehicles tires. The lines in the back-up camera now are about 5in narrower on each side. Not that big a deal, but worth noting.

Hi. Your video was very informative, especially the part about the housing for the camera being brittle and likely to break. As a result of being very lazy, I asked myself, if the housing is likely to break on my nine-year-old Cmax, why disassemble the interior trim to get to the camera. Instead, I ordered a new housing BM5Z 19H421A from Ford to be delivered through a local Ford Dealer for about $20. I then carefully pried the housing from the hole using a thin metal spackle knife. As expected, two of the four tabs that held the housing in place broke. Nonetheless, I extracted the housing and defective camera from the outside without removing any interior trim. I unsnapped the camera from the housing and installed a replacement camera (this one had a slightly higher angle and hence the bumper showed up in the backup display, but it otherwise works fine. Because the replacement housing had not yet arrived, I used some high-quality clear silicon sealant to "glue" the damaged housing into place. It's holding so well, that when the new housing arrived, I decided not to use it just yet because I wasn't sure how well the replacement camera would hold up (it was very cheap at about $37 but so far it works great.) Sticking with the silicon, my total expense is less than $40. If the silicon solution doesn't hold up, I can replace it using the made-in-Germany housing I bought through Ford in about 15 minutes: Then my total cost is under $60. If the camera doesn't hold up, I'm pretty sure I can pop out the cheap camera and replace it in 15 to 20 minutes using the new, still flexible, housing from Ford. Altogether, I've saved about a $1000 over Ford's quote to replace the camera.

Dan - This was a great tutorial video and walked me through the entire process without a hitch. One step I added because I questioned the quality of my $32 eBay camera is once I installed the camera and connected the wires I tested the function of the camera. Then I was confident is completing the reassembly and everything is working just fine. Took me about 1 1/2 hours working at a relaxed pace and cleaning parts as I went. Prior to the replacement my screen never displayed a message and it only functioned properly about 10% of the time. Sometimes it would appear on the screen for several seconds then disappear.

I wanted to add my own thanks. For me, the camera was blacking out 80% of the time, either immediately or after a few seconds of operation, and then displaying, "Camera is unavailable. Please contact your dealership." I took a gamble that the camera was at fault, and replacing it has fixed the problem so far.

Thanks for your meticulous steps. I was wondering if the Ford B-Max Rear Camera Housing would work for the C-Max: FORD B-MAX 12-/ FOCUS 14- Rear View Camera Mounting Bracket OEM Part# 1747479. @@DansWay After some research, I found that this part is identical in North America to BM5Z19H421A (mainly back-ordered in the US). So, it appears to fit the 2013-2018 C-Max models and others like Fusion or Transit Connect. Some US dealers still have a few on hand. The ones (w/OEM #1747479) on eBay are coming from Europe and may take longer to ship. It looks like Ford UK has them, but they do not offer US shipping.

One time, I wanted to look at the connector to see if there was any corrosion that I could clean off to rejuvenate it - I did not find any.
The second time, the actual replacement.
The third time, when I was about to take it for a test drive and I realized I had forgotten to reattach the 10mm bolts! Well I guess that's not the *whole* disassembly, but most of it.
