Regardless of how you feel about ZZ’s first half, we can agree that the second half is where it all starts to click.
It's pretty jarring but I felt it was on purpose..just huge dissonance..
first half is a lot of good fun though. Like, if you just came from watching Zeta, it's a nice break from all the heavy stuff, then when you've recovered the second half of ZZ kicks in.

@@bananianMaybe a bit but more like it gets more serious, first half of ZZ has goofy lighthearted humor, more than usual for Gundam, but second half of the show the plot really kicks in, roughly coincides with OP change. Also was referencing the first OP which literally proclaimed it wasn't anime.
@@bananian Well... no darker than Zeta Gundam. But as said already, this is where the series gets more serious, dropping the lighthearted tones of the first half. And it's also when the named character death count starts going up.
I am always amazed how dark the succesion of events from 079 (half the humanity dies there) and going on keeps going darker and darker, Zeta sees a bloody civil war, leading to another bloody civil war with mass destruction weapons used indiscriminaly, up to Char dropping another colony/asteroid in CC 91. ZZ ends on a very bitter tone as the AEUG with most of its idealistic backers and soldiers dead, simply dissolves itself into the Federation (with Bright simply looking like he is exhausted and letting it happened). Nobody seems to ever adress the basic political problems of the UC.

"Silent Voice" which is one of my top favorite banger openings in Gundam, seems to represent Lady Haman's hidden feelings
Just finished ZZ and CCA, all i can say is that i loved the experience, ZZ after episode 10 was almost as good as Zeta to me, but the openings, oh my god, i will never forget them, they are are just so good, UC Gundam is like one of those anime i've waited my whole life to watch. Sad thing ZZ is so overlooked by so many Gundam fans.
Indeed, the second half of ZZ is rock solid.
You should look Gundam 0083. As good as ZZ.
@@Catfish0220 Sadly 0083 have the issue with the character and story which most people said same about that anime while 0083 is better than ZZ. Most favorite on 80s and 90s were 08th Gundam and Zeta which have their own charm. While 08th more focused on tactics and character personality, Zeta is darker and WW2 vibe like they use G3 Bioweapon to erase Colony with some crazy experiments for fighting against Newtypes.
Original Gundam is the depiction of WW1 where young people were being forced to join battle with barely any experience while dealing with long and arduous battle that some of the will have mental health issue to the point where they will endure the horror of war or they will break completely and sick of it. I love Original Gundam and Zeta because it replicate what World War happened in real-life also happened in the anime too with some twists.
For me, 08th is the definition when no Newtypes battle against each other with their own tactics, their success will depend on how their teamwork executed, one mistake will cost their plan badly. Military tactics are more applied in this one than most other Gundams since they fight on Earth with survival is the key to alive.

pai pai I love Haman and the Zeta and Double Zeta series but War in the Pocket is better about that particular message and it will crush your heart in 6 episodes

Al really didn’t know much outside of side 6, but that one fight with Chris and Barney. He yearned to become a pilot and fight like a badass, and Barney taught him that war isn’t about being a badass and it was never cool.
Judau and his squad literally got dragged into the war first hand without knowing what the hell they got into at the beginning, but as Lena “died” they’ve realized what war was and first handedly understood the constant conflicts only brought death yet nothing got resolved. Haman’s existence have shown to Judau what it means to lose all hopes on humanity and years of loneliness can make Haman become such a tragic figure.
WitP makes a kid realize the dream isn’t always what it looks like, while ZZ straight up tells you conflicts don’t do shit
i agree, Z/ZZ and V Gundam are different breeds.

people who complain about ZZ's lighter tone are the ones who have watched Gundam up till there only half-assedly and/or who aren't familiar with the creator. Tomino includes very distinct and in-your-face comedy in literally all of his works
@@rrrrr0_ What a lot of people don’t seem to realize is that Tomino has a tendency to follow up a darker series with a more light-hearted one (Zambot with Daitarn, Ideon with Xabungle, and yes, Zeta with ZZ). The tonal shift was intentional on his part. Admittedly, comedy is subjective - something that one person finds funny, another might not find funny - and as such, I can understand not liking ZZ if it’s style of comedy isn’t your cup of tea, but to disparage it BECAUSE of it being more comedic in the first place shows a fundamental lack of knowledge of how Tomino operates.
Besides, if the behind-the-scenes of Victory Gundam has taught us anything, it’s that if he REALLY wanted to sabotage the Gundam franchise via ZZ, he would’ve gone in the COMPLETE opposite direction.

The reason why Gundam ZZ was foolishly hilarious at the first half was too enlighten the fans who got depressed by the ending of Zeta Gundam, and then by the time the second half went on, Gundam ZZ is like,
"Alright fans, no more funny stuff."
I actually liked the goofy first half, especially Mashymre. R.I.P.

it certainly was a very interesting experiment making the opening theme be about the ANTAGONIST of the series, but I feel it made for a bittersweet theme as a result
ZZってはじまりがいまいち緊張感なく前作に比べてイマイチと思いながらも毎週観てたけど一話一話かけ算で面白くなってく構成とZの時から加わった前後半の曲の変化、終わってみたら両曲共に甲乙付け難い感じになってるとこ！わかるだろ?みんなわかるだろ!（笑）

Fun fact: In the ZZ production team was a Brit guy named Boyce. According to statements he was a very kind, helpfull and admired coworker although very, VERY quiet. In his homage the team decided to do the second opening with a song named "Silent Boyce" however due to transcription errors the only version avaliable to us today is the one in this video and official media.
