A blast from the past, DSP faces off against TKK in a first to ten in Street Fighter IV. I thought it was hilarious when it first happened because of how much shit both of them were talking...with DSP being the aggressor. Watching him lose at everything never gets old.

I did this for about an hour last night, just choosing random videos throughout his uploads and he has an excuse for LITERALLY EVERY GAME HE PLAYS. It doesn’t matter how easy or difficult it is, how beginner friendly or not, he’s always bad but always makes excuses.
I’ve been playing a lot of Shovel Knight (all 3 campaigns thus far on 3DS) and PUBG mobile... I often find myself congratulating people that get a good shot off on me and kill me in PUBG and I often find myself saying, “okay, I made this mistake on this level in Plague Of Shadows, but I’ll get it this time.”
In order to learn you have to be able to admit fault. If you don’t admit that you make mistakes you’ll never learn from them, and judging from the 2-3 dozen videos I swiped through on DSP’s channel, he has never once admitted fault. He doesn’t read how a game controls or doesn’t bother paying attention to hints in dialogue? Blames the controls being shitty or the game being too cryptic. Online fighters? Lag, “my move didn’t come out,” and button mashers. He had an endless ocean for excuses but about a puddle of depth for self improvement.
Yeah, I did it for 4 days straight. I'm 'late' to Phils existence and wanted to make sure the contempt for him is earned. No story has only one side afterall.

around that time, Pigroach was still interacting with people, and most of those people literally made him cry.
he's still making a effort not to overstep his boundaries.
when he moved to seattle, it's a blank slate for him. no one's yelling at him to keep it down, and he's not interacting with people to the point where he has to keep his autism in check.
You can compare his fake laugh, it was just the beginings of the familiar ACKACKACK.
Old phil is awful, but he's more manageable than current phil because old phil is within proximity of the closest thing to authority figures.
And now he locks himself away in his big boy house because he'll probably get stabbed at EVO for running his mouth for so long without doing a single goddamn thing to back it up.

I don't think he's had a main since Vega and Bison on Super Turbo. He doesn't stick with characters (or games, for that matter) to figure one out.

I don't really get why dsp complains about him switching to Ryu and how that's not tournament play? When he's played a different character almost every set?

I would understand for banned moves/characters, but everything else is fair game in competitive play. That's one thing I don't understand, is if he was exposed to tournaments, how did he not keep a "play to win" mentality and realize others will apply it too.
In a tournament, you're only allowed to switch character if you lost the previous round.
But it clearly didn't matter. Phil probably would have lost 10-1 if TKK didn't donate that one game by switching character.

I love seeing Phil get more and more whiny as the set goes on. It's completely reflective of how he plays most games; he says "This is pretty fun! This is crazy!" and overtime it starts turning into "You saw he exploited the latency," "I couldn't do anything there," and "This isn't fun game design!"
As soon as he starts sucking hardcore, the game is to blame. Or Comcast has a bad service even though he has business internet. Or the other player uses cheap tactics. Excuses upon excuses on the back of excuses.
Reading this comment five years later while dsp does the exact same things with SF6 and MK1 is kinda surreal. Life is a weird loop.
For all that Phil complains about not being able to react/lag, TKK seems more than able to react to Phil's moves.

This was when DSP was actually somewhat skilled. That combo with Viper during the stun was legit. Sure it was easy as shit in Vanilla SF4 to mash a lariat but hey every now and then he would do it on reaction.
Yeah, but unfortunately, his King of Scrubs status is on full display here, and why I could tell he wasn't going anywhere. The guy is the epitome of scrub, and he was a cocky one to boot. His confidence level does not at all match his skill, and, for speaking about respect, he didn't respect TKK enough to take him seriously until it was way too late. He then started making up all these little rules to somehow discredit the entire match set. "Why is he switching characters", "spamming", and, of course, "if this were offline I'd beat him." The guy doesn't even come out of his house, let alone schlep halfway across the country to go to actual tournaments, so he really shouldn't be complaining about his only method of play, and one which, ironically enough, he uses far more than offline.
20:00 in is when the real excuses realllllly kick in.
And a few things to note:
-Dsp picks "characters to try out" or "characters he doesn't use much" because he was laying out the groundwork for his excuses when he loses. "If I had used one of my real characters I would have won 10-0" . He subconsciously knew he was going to lose.
-Dsps win with Zangief was literally him running away and turtling the whole 3rd round.
-When using a fireball character Dsp literally runs backwards while spamming fireballs. It is insane to see just how many he spans in just one round. And he still loses lol.
When it is 5-1 Dsp losing, that is when he says "I guess I will play as hard as I can and stop messing around. If I lose I lose, because it is impossible to do moves online". Lol This guy . What a scrub. And nothing has changed. He is exactly the same now, if anything he has gotten worse.
When he eventually says: "now he switches character even though that I didn't know that was allowed in a tournament style setting"... WTF have you been doing the past 5 matches???

I'm watching this and I wonder what you'd call "okay" in this case. Right now I am at him playing Ryu and I see a lot of random sweeps or special moves/reversals done by Phil that get blocked or whiff and a lot of whiff punishes by his enemy. I see Phil doing a few setups and what he would call "patternplay" and "spamming randomness".
I won't even say that he is bad in general, but he keeps whining about fighting games right now because "no fundamentals" and looking at this video from almost ten years ago his footsies are pretty bad.. especially his spacing. The amount of whiff'd DPs is amazing.
It's worse now, he's basically a internet hobo at this point
up to the interval at 27minutes, the smartest thing he's does all set is DPs as akuma through the balrog's flowchart pressure, that's some of his pro player legacy on show right there, lol.
the worst was watching his blanka, light roll, jump, light roll throw. "i can't use blanka ball" he knows it, and sill uses it in punishes anyway cos he can't electric. his ryu is so hamfisted, he doesn't feint a fireball once, every time he ducks, a fireball came out. or a tatsu once, and he got hit out of all of them, and he kept doing it.
i can't even call it nerves or pressure, cos he's complaining the whole time, nervous people don't do that, he's ok compared to everyone he plays with, but he's a very average online player

There is a really telling part of this that people seem to be missing.
Phil is literally setting up for the loss for the entire video.
If he wins, great, he'll brag and crow.
But he's actually trying to save his ego the entire video. As we all know Phil can't go without trying to monetize a recording.
He starts off not "Taking things seriously" because he has all this time to "Play around." Phil is trying to weave pignosis already. Setting it up for "Phil didn't lose! He was just messing around! It was all jokes!"
Then comes the shit we all know.
Phil grunting and snorting about all the lag that only affects him. The dropped/eaten inputs. He's even trying to play up like the online status isn't just fucking him. The Ryu block.
Then comes the Ken V Goken fight where Phil is back to "Oh it doesn't matter. I don't even care." Because it's not a REAL match you see. He's quick to plug how he could totally take TKK offline.
The last fight is just Phil doing all he can to delegitimize the entire thing. That it's all bullshit, doesn't count, online is tilted against him.
"This will be fast and over and then I can go do something fun. Not like this terrible online play".
15 years later, DsPhails whole life is terrible and revolves around online play.

TKK was awesome. he got really good with makoto at the end, then his channel disappeared. phil on the other hand had an advantage when this game came out. was easily able to beat on rookies which made him somewhat famous.
TKK started getting money and built a family then he stopped uploading which honestly makes him cooler. Not everyone wants to live the internet lifestyle.

DSP is host but somehow lag is inconveniencing him. He did nothing wrong. He did everything correct, and by the way TKK agrees with him.
He says that TKK is winning because "he can obviously play online with this lag." Adapting to lag is a real thing, so you would think, considering that he experiences it EVERY SINGLE TIME HE PLAYS ONLINE, that DSP would have adapted by now, right? OK? Alright? Alright. **snort**

The screen DID show him blocking. For about 3 frames or so. But... The player has 0% health, anything kills him.
No wonder he sucked so hard with Gief in SFV.
His whole gameplay is lariat and hoping his opponent runs into it.
To be fair to DSP, I can completely understand why he wouldn't pick his best character. Usually I would say it's because someone doesn't like the match up if they don't pick their best character, but this is a bit different. I'm pretty sure Phil was trying to prove his superiority by making the statement that he can beat TKK's best character without his. This strategy also gives Phil the excuse of it wasn't my best character.
