  • The Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park is a fascinating destination that preserves America's early transportation history. Stretching 184.5 miles from Cumberland, Maryland to Washington, D.C., the park follows the path of the historic C&O Canal³.
Originally, the canal served as a vital route for transporting coal, lumber, and agricultural products along the Potomac River³. Today, it offers visitors a chance to explore a variety of historical, natural, and recreational treasures. You can enjoy activities like biking, hiking, canoeing, and fishing along the canal⁴.
The park also features stunning views of the Great Falls of the Potomac River, which can be seen from both Maryland and Virginia³. If you're planning a visit, the Great Falls Tavern Visitor Center is a great place to start, where you can learn more about the park's history and offerings³.
Have you ever visited the C&O Canal, or are you planning a trip there soon?
