My friend asked me about Queens Gambit and what my biggest take away was and I told him one word " EYES" This girl has the ability to express herself completely through her eyes. Love her acting !! It's difficult to predict who is going to win an Academy Award based on talent alone. Michelle Pfeiffer was nominated twice for "Dangerous Liaisons" and "The Fabulous Baker Boys" but never took home the big prize.

Emotionally haunting.... It touches the soul.
She has amazing vocal control. Smooth, sultry and sexy all rolled together into a classic 1940's of times past. Her subtle movements blend well with the song and keep your eyes locked onto her while she sings. Excellent job.
I fell in love at first sight on Anya. Hearing her sing just shutdown a part of my brain.

Nah, I disagree with the comparison to Meryl Streep. If any actor will achieve anything close to that status, it will be the Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson. Just give it time and everybody will see how diverse his acting range really is. If you need proof, just take a look at how much he's grown as an actor since Scorpion King -> Tooth Fairy -> Skyscraper -> Moana. Can't wait to see more from this man in the next few decades.

I need films to be this good again!!!!

When I was young, this was one of my favorite songs, and it was sung by Petula Clark. This new downtempo cover by Anya Taylor-Joy is just as great and touching as the original. Thanks to the producers for bringing the song back in a more recent picture and to Anya Taylor-Joy for her beautiful voice.

I love the dark twist this version puts on the joyous song. It makes it an act of seduction by Sandy, encouraging Eloise to escape from the troubles of the present world (which we all feel) , alluring her with glamour and music and assuring her “you’re gonna be alright now”, while little do we know she’s entrapping her in something much more dangerous (no spoilers here, you need to go and see the film, it’s incredible!)!
She was not entrapping her,no spoilers but the ghosts wanted her elllie to do something for them you know what I mean.

Great version. I love how they slowed it down to make it spookier, but it also meant they could compress the range and make it work with Anyas vocals. I also love they resisted the urge to autotune the voice to shiney perfection and kept in some of the small breaks in her voice it suits a song from that era to sound like it's sung by a real person and not a machine.
I prefer the downbeat version, it doesn't sound spooky to me at all, it's so captivating almost like a surreal lullaby.
I must admit i have seen the trailer for this movie now twice, and her singing actually intrigued me, and i’m not a fan of horror movies.

The first time I saw her was as a redhead in the poster for Queen's Gambit looking up at the camera with eyes larger than life. I have been borderline obsessed with her ever since...
I remember seeing this poster everywhere when the Queens Gambit first dropped. Man. Those big unique eyes looking at us. She is so easy to become obsessed with isn't she? Perfection in my opinion. The full package.

The Petula Clark version of this song from the mid-1960s is one of the first pop songs I remember from childhood. I might have been five or something and an aunt of mine would sing it to us kids.

Yes! Jodie Comer, Anya and Florence are 3 of the most exciting talents today. Imagine all three either on the same side, or antagonists towards each other!
What makes her special is the total lack of ego. Her immense talent is so natural, it does all the talking for her. She needs nothing else but to just be herself.

That part where he's dancing with one girl then the next isn't CGI by the way. They really had to have each of them duck away then pop back in. Amazing choreography.
