The way it begins so magical then gradually becomes more horrifying and uncomfortable

Funny how the mood changes, isn’t it?

I guess it's a somewhat subtle symbolization of both Eloise's and Sandie's experiences in the 60s. Starts off as magical, hopeful and opens a door to a huge life-changing opportunity, but then slowly descends into a more ominious and frightening atmosphere as the true intentions are revealed

It’s terrifying because her voice is nice but no one goes downtown to sing that, she’s the ghost

There are actors and then there are stars, and Anya is a star. She radiates on screen and overshadows the other actors. She has charisma, and it shows in her performances.

    Dang, she’s very good!
It’s nice that her character got to become a singer for this club later on, right? Right?
In all seriousness, this was definitely a very good scene and I wish Anya would make her own music album already. She’s got the great voice

    • @joannachen76
      @joannachen76 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

She might be very good, but maybe not music album good. Anyone with a decent enough voice can produce a song through rigorous coaching. And that's totally fine. I think her singing abilities tie in with Sandy's character.
Sandy can sing, but obviously not outstanding enough for her to be marketed as a hot singer, I wouldn't be surprised if all the other marionette girls can sing just as well as her. I think that's part of the horror of the movie, for someone to come to a big city thinking that they can make it big with their gift, then have that dream dashed to pieces discovering that your talent is a dime a dozen here.

Not only can Anya Taylor act her ass off in every movie I've seen her in but she can bring on sexy like nobody's business. This teaser Stops where the movie Starts. This is Not a dreamy whimsical girl movie. It's a sit on the edge of your seat horror movie that you don't want to mess.

Saw this movie at random in Hanover Pennsylvania. I knew nothing about it, no trailers or anything. I was going to rewatch Halloween or James Bond but went to see this, and I'm so glad I did. Fell in love with it.

I saw one trailer and Edgar Wright's name on the movie poster Halloween night during the CovAids so the theater was eerily empty - ish. I was going to see Halloween 🎃 2 with Jamie Lee Curtis but changed my mind when I saw that movie poster. To this day I never saw Halloween 2 or even 3 and am in love with Thomasin and Anya. I've seen them in other movies / streaming shows since. I'm still waiting for Next Night in Soho. NYC / The 70's. Synne Karlsson as Jocasta being in the middle of a mystery and bumping into Ellie, the only one who can help her. With a little help from a friend (Sandie blows a kiss from a mirror) maybe she can possess bodies like in Wonderware 84. Any way I have to bring Anya back lol. I'll write and direct the movie myself if Edgar doesn't want to do sequels.

When you're alone, and life is making you lonely
    You can always go
    Downtown
When you've got worries, all the noise and the hurry
    Seems to help, I know
    Downtown
Just listen to the music of the traffic in the city
Linger on the sidewalk where the neon signs are pretty
    How can you lose?
The lights are much brighter there
You can forget all your troubles, forget all your cares
So go downtown, things'll be great when you're
Downtown, no finer place for sure
    Downtown everyone's waiting for you
Don't hang around and let your problems surround you
    There are movie shows
    Downtown
Maybe you know some little places to go to
    Where they never close
    Downtown
Just listen to the rhythm of a gentle bossa nova
You'll be dancing with him too before the night is over
    Happy again
The lights are much brighter there
You can forget all your troubles, forget all your cares
So go downtown, where all the lights are bright
    Downtown, waiting for you tonight
Downtown, you're gonna be alright now
    Now
    Downtown
    Downtown
And you may find somebody kind to help and understand you
Someone who is just like you and needs a gentle hand to
    Guide them along
So maybe I'll see you there
We can forget all our troubles, forget all our cares
So go downtown, things'll be great when you're
Downtown, don't wait a minute more
    Downtown, everything's waiting for you
    Everything's waiting (everything's waiting)
    Everything's waiting (everything's waiting)
    Everything's waiting (everything's waiting)
    Everything's waiting (everything's waiting)
    Everything's waiting (everything's waiting)
    Everything's waiting (everything's waiting)
(Everything's waiting) (everything's waiting) for you

When I was a child of around 8 my parents were splitting up and I didn’t know what I was gonna do without a dad but both of them used me like pawns and they both had my brain scrambled and we lived in Nashville music was everywhere radios blasting and I had a small transistor I had my ears in all the time , and when Petula Clark started singing downtown , I would run and hide so my friends wouldn’t see me crying but I let her but only a few minutes take me to another place I was just so scared to walk into my house where the war was happening , but downtown gave me an escape to another place in time , I could hear the horns I could see the blinking lights I didn’t want them to fight but made it worse if I tried to stop them , remember thinking I wished the song was way longer I liked it when I could be in the music and block out reality , I was so sad that my heart was being ripped out and my mom and dad didn’t seem to know how I felt , but I could shut my door roll under my bed and for about 3 minutes I could be in downtown Nashville and I wanted to just hug Petula Clark for taking me downtown and escaping from what was really happening in my young life ! Then I heard Anya Taylor Joy sing it in a darker version was just so taken back to a time so dark in my life so violent for me and mom and sisters , never realized it could be sang in different ways other the way Petula Clark sang it !there were another that hit me hard called so many rain drops falling from my eye eyes it must be tear drops for a man’s not supposed to cry !
