This is the look I wore in the 60s and early 70s in New England when I lived in Boston as a college student and in the countryside an hour away later. We wore tweed blazers and shooting jackets with suede shoulder and elbow patches for bird hunting with our pointers, just as we did when visiting my parents in Surrey England hunting and riding. The style was universal then. It is such a timeless look. It was comfortable, warm and practical for country life. It still is where I live now in the mountains of Guatemala in coffee finca country. I found it a shock when I first moved here in retirement to find British expats and Guatemalan hacendados...finca owners...often dressing like English country dwellers, but since it is a look I am so comforatble with, I repurchased my favorites to wear here November through mid February. They feel like old friends. Holland Cooper makes the most beautiful countrywear in my opinion. This style just lasts and lasts and goes on forever. My British stepfather used to say a young man bought his Harris tweeds while at university and they lasted him a lifetime letting them in and out and reweaving when necessary. He frowned upon newly reupholstered antique chairs, and new clothing in general. I found him old fashioned but a great deal of fun, like a beloved quirky character in a British novel. He thought Americans' penchant for new everything very wasteful...now older myself, I think he was right. There is far too much fast fashion for my taste NOW. Happy to see this video. homes, clothing, furniture
Wow, looks like you lived quite an interesting life so far! England, USA, Guatemala... May I ask what kind of career path you chose? Best Regards from a German Law student!
I too have worn this since high school in the late 70's...every so often I think I should be 'more modern' but then I feel so out of place. They are indeed 'old friends' :)
Stylist: English country style look Me: Date, Church, Shopping, Lounging at home, Casual Friday, Dog walking outfit. 😁 Its what I wear for every occasion. Not frumpy at all, exudes an active feminine woman. I was at home lounging in an outfit similar to #5, when I noticed a new neighbor unloading her Uhaul by herself, in the rain. I put a scarf and gloves on and went to help her. After we were done getting her items in her apartment she commented on how stylished I looked.
I totally agree with you. Most videos on style are way over the top for my lifestyle. I work from home and live next to the countryside. This video is great for a more polished look whilst being active, hiking, etc. in the countryside.
I live in North Carolina in the US and in the Fall, I wear this look a lot in my area of the country but my taste tends toward solid colors and not plaids. I like the puffer vests (quilted gilets) with leggings or jeans and my boots tend to be shorter, either ankle boots or booties. We don’t wear hats here but tend to wear hoods attached to our vests or nothing at all. It’s much warmer here than the UK, although I’m cold natured. I wear a puffer jacket in winter with gloves and an attached hood. I love your vlog and I love fashion!
Not frumpy at all, all these looks apart from the Cape are all gorgeous classics. They would suit everyone, and it's great that I give all prices to choose from. Anyone could put these ideas together with lots of basics. Fab as ever !!!
This is the video for me . I garden a lot . I asked other channels to help me with not looking basic and frumpy but put together while gardening and being able to look presentable . No one responded but this seams to work . Thank you
Love ALL! Going to spend a couple months camping in TN October & November, but I don’t care for the typical sloppy casual look worn by most women. THIS is exactly what I need for inspiration 💞💕💗💝💖💓
Love this video and the English country style. Huge fan of the Duchess of Cambridge! She is always spot on with her style and always elegant and current.
Not frumpy just classic good taste love the tweed look and wax jacket I have a Barbour jacket it's practical and yet stylish. The jackets are very flattering and tweed is a favourite of mine for autumn and if it snows then you could put an oversized waterproof Cape on Lovely choices Gemma
I adore this style. It’s timeless, smart, suits everyone and is practical. You’ve found some absolutely gorgeous examples for inspiration, so many thanks as always for the work you put in.
I love the styles you showed and put together for us! Not frumpy at all! Very fun relaxed woodsy and stylish ! Thank you again for all your research and hard work to present outfits so wonderfully
I wear this style regularly 3 seasons out of the year living in Kentucky USA, but I like to mix it up with Southwestern/Native American details. Thank you for validating my style choices!
Thank you so much for the detail you took making this video. I just now found Rydal thanks to you. I’ve been looking for the perfect riding boot to replace my old ones for years and the price is amazing with these. I am waiting for them to get my size back in stock.
Lovely presentation, dear Gemma. I’ve been waiting for this for quite some time. I love wearing casual country outfits like jeans, brown/cognac riding boots, a nice green or navy knit jumper and/or matching blouses and shirts underneath and everything combined with my favourite Barbour quilted jacket.
What a beautiful video. I am very fond of timeless country style clothing. They are wearable rain or no rain, and a tweed blazer makes it nicely timeless.
In every video you share I always have inspiration with my own wardrobe , classic , chic , elegant or country style Love them all. I shop my closet, thank you! I don't realize how much I have and don't wear. You're my favorite stylist!! GOD bless! 🌹
I am in the US, and wear styles very similar to these to be casual but with a little more polish. I have found all my better quality tweed blazers on eBay - mostly Ralph Lauren. Love the look.
Great video and, of course, the model is what we all adore - such style and class. For us here in the states, I think this is a little bit overstated and heavy because I’m in CA and our weather is just too warm for most of this but we certainly can pull off the vest, blazer, jacket, and button down shirt. The boots, of course, are great but rather warm for most of our “cold” season. Loved this, thank you.
Beautifully frumpy. Thanks for the tips, being a city girl, I have found myself lost in fashion style now that I am stuck in the country. I had no idea that this was even a trend or look. Thank you so much for the guidance.now I know what to look for.
Gemma you are a whizz with classy outfits. This video is perfect for me as I live in the countryside and I need to be practical, especially at this time of year. Definitely not frumpy. xx
All five looks are beautiful and timeless. It's now the 3rd time I watched this video. I walk daily outdoors, I look forward to upgrading my look using the inspiration you have provided. Thank you.
I adore this look and have the desire to add some pieces to achieve it. I am disabled and jeans are a real challenge for me. I've finally decided to cut them out completely, but have never felt myself in athletic wear. This will go a long way in helping me reimagine what I can do with black leggings. Thank you for the helpful breakdown. You got yourself a new sub. 😉
Enjoyed this because I am actively reviewing my wardrobe choices with a view to comfortable chic ( not sweat pants neither athleizure ). Thank you for all your creative offerings!
Our fashion in England is the best. It's perfect for our climate, lanscape and taste.
Nothing frumpy about this style.......it’s classic English Country.......we all love it!
I really like these outfits; they’re timeless. I like Ralph Lauren’s designs as well. I think he’s mastered the “classy country” look.
Totally agree

Fascinating story! Thank you for sharing it with us! :)
They are quite wearable for all people, especially countryside folks who walk regularly. Great for errands and everyday life.
I like that wearable for all people! Casual & clean, practical & not frumpy....
I love this style, it’s polished, but casual, comfortable and practical.
Most importantly, it fits English weather most times🤣

Growing up this was the style we wore to church and lounging at home. I still wear it today just don’t leave the house much, lol
Country style outfits are so wearable. I loved every look. I need a waxed jacket.
J crew has some very nice waxed jackets.
I'm from the U.S, and I adore English fashion. It's so chic and whimsical. 💖
I love this style and find it very timeless.
Please do more videos on this style! It's such a classic look and great for any age and budget.
I'm so glad you did this type of video! I've been looking for videos on how to dress chic when going outdoors and hiking etc. I can find nothing.

I absolutely love this style, very classic and elegant
I used to dress like this when I was in Uni, all preppy! Still love this style is timeless
I’m American and even though I think I dress more city chic I love this! I’ve never heard of a wax jacket before, the belted ones are phenomenal ❤️
It’s very British. Check out the Barbour website. 😊
Very chic and practical. I even wear this kind of outfits to run errands in the city on a chilly, rainy day, when a trench coat isn't warm enough.
I love this style because it fits my lifestyle and where I live.

English Country style is my favourite look! Timeless, elegant and practical.
I love these styles. Classic and feminine.
Love ALL! Going to spend a couple months camping in TN October & November, but I don’t care for the typical sloppy casual look worn by most women. THIS is exactly what I need for inspiration 💞💕💗💝💖💓
I would love to see a summer version of this wardrobe style
Love this video and the English country style. Huge fan of the Duchess of Cambridge! She is always spot on with her style and always elegant and current.

Lovely choices Gemma
Another British fashion term I’ve never heard: gilet. I suppose it’s actually a French word but used in the UK to mean a vest. Thanks Gemma!
Thanks! I wondered what it meant.
These are a style I love in winter, when the weather is cold and wet these outfits can keep you warm and dry.
I adore this style. It’s timeless, smart, suits everyone and is practical. You’ve found some absolutely gorgeous examples for inspiration, so many thanks as always for the work you put in.
Love, love, love this style. I wear it almost every day! It's one way to stay warm as I find most women's clothes just don't keep the cold out.
I allready wear that look, living in the countryside. Love it.
I love the styles you showed and put together for us!
Not frumpy at all!
Very fun relaxed woodsy and stylish ! Thank you again for all your research and hard work to present outfits so wonderfully

I like that you get right to the point of your video and that you keep it short. You always show chic outfits. Thanks again for what you offer.
I like the look , finding it presentable while out and about without being sloppy looking.
I love the style and I'm wearing it myself since a couple of years.
LOVE!! Classic and timeless! More like this --- how about spring and then summer English counrty chic looks!!
Timeless and comfortable.
I absolutely love this style!
If it’s worn by the Duchess, it is impeccable class.
I love this style! Please do more style videos for the country style.
They are amazing not frumpy at all, thanks for sharing and Hi from Chicago.
I wear this style regularly 3 seasons out of the year living in Kentucky USA, but I like to mix it up with Southwestern/Native American details. Thank you for validating my style choices!
Absolutely love this look! Especially since I have English and Irish roots 🤗

Love it, being from Canada I would get a ton of wear out of these outfits.
Lovely presentation, dear Gemma. I’ve been waiting for this for quite some time. What a beautiful video. I am very fond of timeless country style clothing. They are wearable rain or no rain, and a tweed blazer makes it nicely timeless.
No definitely not frumpy, very classy and stylish for the outdoors. I particularly love padded gilets over two layers.
This is such a vibe
Very wearable outfits to walk the dog. 👍 Love outfit 2, but outfit 3 is most likely what I’d wear.
Good effort, quite articulate, well organised & presentation, Vlog & thank goodness, no changing outfits during Vlog 👍🏿👍🏻
