massive ND fan. that being said, we need to be cautious on how high we rank them based on this win. 5 unforced turnovers, that could have made this a MUCH closer game than it was. Go Irish!
If you take out the turnovers and applied Navy’s success rate to those drives instead, they still only end up with about 28 points. ND’s success rate in turning non-Navy turnover drives into points was much better, so ND still wouldve scored at least 42-48 points
@@paulkindlon5496 Riley still learning the offense, no spring practice, and the damn field goal being blocked😒 How tf we getting field goals blocked?!🤦 our Special Team's ain't special
Great cast, and always better when no one was injured (that we can tell). My two points: 1)Officials sucked, agree on the booth - good, called out officials, but they _were_ bored. 2)The committee is unlikely to view the game the way the AP did. They will actually watch the game and will know the win was based on a Mickey Mouse cartoon where his knees get floppy when he sees something scary. I will hope that they believe in redemption, but we KNOW they believe in injured players, and we have lost quite a few. We may not be alone, but the committee is a black box and they needn't follow the AP Poll at all, though historically they at least trend that way on the first week. Here's hoping we come out ok! Go Irish!
This does seem almost singularly like an "up for grabs" situation. Maybe this is ND's time to take advantage. That said, it would not surprise me if ND lost on the road at USC. Killing the season. So, there are so many possible outcomes. But a possible outcome is ND making a strong run in the playoff, with Riley Leonard being the ultimate wildcard down the stretch. ND is an interesting team. I certainly hope Onye returns, .. as anonymous as he seems at time, I think he could be an important part of the DL rotation given all the injury losses. I also agree that Faison's return, if fully healthy, can make a huge difference on offense.
I think it's going to be this way most yrs now. I don't think even having the number one recruiting class guarantees anything either. Many factors ,NIL , Portal, and also teams having tougher schedules and many finding out what it's like to have to travel a lot something ND has been doing forever. I think ND can recruit like they have consistently and I believe ND can beat anyone. Their defense is already championship level ND can win a title very soon
Three teams the Irish have proved in the last 10 years they cannot beat (Bama, Ohio State, and Georgia). Other than that, ND has a fighting chance against everyone else if they don't drop another game and make CFP.
did you watch Texas A&M beat LSU ? we must have a pretty good team when we bring our A game. Our Offensive line had what 6 total starts going in ? we drove in q4 to win the game. The A&M game will be big. Even bigger will be USC at the coliseum if we spank them. Last impressions count in this situation GO Irish
It's a nice win against Navy but I just can't get excited about beating Navy who although was ranked, hadn't beat anyone who's any good. FSU at 1-7 will roll in with much better athletes and will be a much greater test. I've been so wounded since NIU and the Navy game didn't make be a believer yet. I'm going to have trust issues for a very long time. With that said, I'm very impressed that this team has worked themselves back into the TOP 10.
If ND takes care of business, they are in the playoff. And they are possibly dangerous. As much as some fans have dumped on Leonard, he is possibly the wildcard in playoff games. ND has pieced this together over time, but, .. honestly ... I think ND can make a run in a playoff scenario. ND is NOT the best team in the country, .. but in a playoff game, the D + Leonard's potential makes them really dangerous. Fun to think about.
Shouting out Greg McElroy for coming down on the officials is off base in my opinion. McDonough was the one actually excoriating them and McElroy at a certain point was defending them and certain calls. It got to where McDonough even argued with him and finally Greg sort of sighed and relented. If anything Greg was asleep at the wheel for a lot of it. I can understand why he wouldn't jump in and make it a bash fest at that point but he was going way too hard and trying to explain calls and why they were good
I’m not calling them a title contender. I think it can be a playoff team but they’re not winning a title this year. They’ve improved greatly from week 2 until now but they’re still not good enough to beat an Oregon or Georgia right now. Maybe they prove me wrong and I hope they do but I’m cautious.
I'm a Notre Dame diehard fan but I don't see the need to bash IU. Let them have their dream season! I mean, as long as ND wins out and handles their business they'll get into the playoff anyway. So why not get 2 Indiana teams in there?
How? They were undefeated and played the same opponent that SMU almost got beat by navy beat them by 4 or 5 touchdowns. They certainly still deserve to be ranked over plenty of teams in the top 25
They lost to a team ranked double digits ahead of them. How does that make them ranked to high? They were unbeaten and avg 4th most points in the nation
The receiver room is finally stepping up 👀 that’s a lazy take Tyler.. the QB himself said guys have been open all year he just hasn’t been throwing them the ball. … that’ The QB is finally stepping up
If we run the table then sure ND deserves to host a playoff game in the 7 or 8 seed but I really don't expect this team to go more than 1 win deep into the playoffs
Yes Notre Dame is a complete team and yes they are a legit contender I'm sorry I don't see anyone outside of Oregon right now that would give Notre Dame really a hard game I'm sorry I know for a fact Notre Dame would beat Ohio State Penn State Alabama they've already beaten the best team in the SEC so what else do they need to do what because they had one bad game? Actually I think that was the best thing to happen to them now they understand they can't let off they have to play tough throughout the whole season and I'm telling you right now if Notre Dame gets into the postseason don't be surprised if they play for the championship
I would have to "un-friend" anyone inviting me to Sept-Jan weddings😂
or kid's birthday parties and gender reveal parties...not going! lol
Fun fact... we had some of the largest margin of victory's in college in the past handful of weeks.
massive ND fan. that being said, we need to be cautious on how high we rank them based on this win. 5 unforced turnovers, that could have made this a MUCH closer game than it was. Go Irish!
They were caused by big hits early. The defense made Navy scared to take hits
We have the right coordinators in place to believe that how much we've improved isnt a fluke. Kinda like with Tommy Rees and Gerad Parker...
If you take out the turnovers and applied Navy’s success rate to those drives instead, they still only end up with about 28 points. ND’s success rate in turning non-Navy turnover drives into points was much better, so ND still wouldve scored at least 42-48 points
I still haven't heard a good analysis explaining how we lost to NIU.
@paulkindlon5496 there's really no analysis to it. We weren't prepared and got hit in the mouth. Never recovered from the 1st snap.
Why do you need an analysis? It was a letdown spot and they overlooked them. No analysis needed.
Both guys nailed the response in their comments.

If ND was more healthy I'd have more confidence....but injuries are stacking up.

Jus say Leonard was hurt when we played NIU it's the truth
He has said that a million times
ND can beat anybody.. Everybody is beatable this season

ND isn’t any good. Poorly coached and not very talented. They will never win another National Title nor “contend” for one. Whatever that means

The opponent is forbidden from using NIL. So the headline is misleading. Just my opinion.

The only way any team can prove their a contender is to keep winning

We're not playing good teams so it's hard to say what we are
The ineptitude of the AP is responsible for Navy's ranking which was clearly to high.
How? They were undefeated and played the same opponent that SMU almost got beat by navy beat them by 4 or 5 touchdowns. They certainly still deserve to be ranked over plenty of teams in the top 25

I feel sorry for Purdue; they used to be a great rival for ND every year. Sad how far their program has fallen.
😂 I don't
I watched a few Iowa St games and they look easily beatable
Do you guys think this game was fools gold because of all the turnovers

Until ND joins a major conference (B10) they will not get the full respect they deserve. It’s a no brainer to me.
