Oh my gosh don’t toss your bottle of Fabri-Tac. Put acetone based nail polish remover in it and roll the bottle and tip and turn the bottle until it mixes in. Start with a small amount and keep adding more until it’s the consistency you want. It may take a while blend in. I’m you over-thin, leave the cap off a little while to let some of it evaporate. Fabri-Tac is wonderful and way too expensive to toss. I’ve thinned down the same bottle over and over again. Hope this helps.
Thank you so much for sharing that lovely trick. I knew there was something I could do and just couldn't remember. I would cut the bottle open before I tossed it.😂 You are so right this stuff is expensive. Thanks so much that will be super helpful.🥰❤️
I love the bed and bedding! Just one thing, Jolene, (it doesn't really matter, and you're too young to know this) back in the day, we didn't really have "fitted" sheets, or they weren't common. It was simply just another flat sheet tucked up under the mattress 😁. I think it's still pretty common practice in hospitals, but I don't know for sure.
That is so awesome to know. Thank you so much for sharing, I really didn't know that and love to learn all about the history of household items. I'm glad you shared that with me. It technically another flat sheet🤭🥰❤️❤️
I think it looks in keeping for the era. We used to mix and match bed frames with any mattress we could get our hands on. If it was slightly wider than the frame, we would pull the bed out from the wall a little to hide that fact, though not enough to roll off and get stuck at odd hours of the night. Don't ask me how I know. This miniature reminds me very much of the bed I had as a child, which had a label on the side with ONO printed on it. Same colour mattress, which John Lewis still sells to this day as its "vintage bedding set". I had candy floss striped flannelette sheets and pillow case and beautiful checkered blanket black, chocolate, orange and yellow. The good old days. Much happiness. I shall look in on the rest of the build.
Seeing the thumbnail I thought that waaaay too difficult for me to diy but your video is so good and clear on how to tackle this, I might even try to make a bed myself 😊
You did an awesome job making the bed and linen, you are so clever. The frame of the bed is wonderful and the mattress and bed linen are brilliant too. Like you said it is lovely to see a bed unmade ,beds are alway made up .Thank you so much for sharing you talent with us.
If you hammer along the frame it hardens the wire Jolene, I would cut all the components, shape them and hammer to harden before gluing or soldering the pieces together. If you have a hard flat surface, like a metal block, that's perfect. It's noticeably harder afterwards. I love this bed!
@@tinykeyholeminispractice on a piece of scrap wire first. Aluminum wire is very soft and will probably dent pretty easy. Practice will also help you learn how to strike with flat part of the hammer too! Good luck! I love the bed!
@@dinky6620I always use a metal hammer against a block but you can get other kinds I'm really not sure about them. I always make sure I'm hitting it flat with the flat of the hammer, unless of course you want to achieve the dented 'hammered' look, I usually do it for wire buckles and aluminium that needs hardening for miniature stirrups on mini horse tack.
This is brilliant Jolene! It's so lovely and really authentic looking. Even the stains on the mattress lol...who hasn't seen an old bed that has a "map of Australia" stained on it somewhere? Its a sign of long wear and use over decades. I have a wrought iron bed on my own To Do list for Mama and Papa in the gnome home but I was thinking of using your wrought iron gate tutorial to figure out how to make it, now I can just pull on more of your creative genius! Even as I was watching you, I had ideas like oh I wonder how it would work if I did that bit this way, or tried doing it another way...You are just so talented and I am grateful that you share it with us all.
Perfect representation of an old brass bed. I appreciate the relaxed pace in which you explain the process. Very inspiring to an amateur like myself. ❤ 🎉
So enjoyable as always. Love the bed frame and decision to leave the bed unmade. Not sure I’d want to sleep on that mattress though with those suspicious stains 😂😂😂. Thank you for sharing your creative ideas ❤❤ x
The bed looks great, I love how you have left the linen out instead of making the bed up. I always admire anyone who uses glue on fabric, I’ve tried and just end up disappointed and with a mess so sew instead. 😊
Miss Margot’s son’s bed turned out fantastic. You did an excellent job on it. I actually have some ticking fabric for making beds myself. I’m going to have to try to make one myself now. My husband is making me a 1:24 scale doll house and it’s going to need a bed, albeit a smaller one than yours. I will make sure to make it a bit smaller because it grows, lol. Thanks for the tips.🤗
This was Great Jolene! I had been wanting to try that "faux welding" technique with glue and wire! The Bed and Everything Turned out really NICE!! I LOVE the LINEN!!!
Beautiful work on the bed and bedding. I always enjoy watching your creative process. Thank you for the tip on the wire and file sticks! I will definitely be needing these for some projects.
I always do things like this on graph paper... beautiful bed❤..tip for fabri tac when it gets thick is add a small drop or 2 of acetone( nail varnish remover)
Thanks so much for sharing. I also use graph paper sometimes as well. I just learned about that tip and recently added acetone to my fabric tac. I'm sure It was more than just a drop or two. I shook it really well, tho. 😂🫣❤️🥰
I'm just getting to this stage with a bed of mine and I'm no sewer so didn't think of glue thank you for this I feel less it's less scary. You are clever.
A little trick I like to use with thin wire is to unspool a little more than I need, then before i cut it use a small pair of pliers to help me stretch the wire out. It not only straightens the wire, but it adds strength to it, too. Cut to your length, and off ya go!😉
An easy way to straighten wire before you start- cut the length you need- lay on your work surface then put your ruler flat on top of the wire and roll back and forth- it’s amazing how well it works!
I personally love it! I can imagine that mattresses in the past maybe didn’t always fit the bed perfectly but they used what they had. The mattress looks very realistic. Same with the bedding and linens. I am also super fond of leaving those sweet little linens folded on the bed. I can imagine the wire bed is not the easiest thing to make but it just fits the house perfectly. I’m a bit under the weather so I’ve been watching the whole playlist on making Miss Margo and it’s still exciting to watch her come into being! @@tinykeyholeminis My mum and all her sisters (five) slept in one bed until they left home. It was a home-made bedstead and mattress and was probably about "queen" sized. Unthinkable today, when each kid needs their own room!
