Much respect for taking your shoes off . I take mine off as soon as I get in my truck and put shoes on that never leave the inside of the truck. With all the nasty shit you walk in going through the truck stop why bring that into your truck

CB Radios are an absolute must. I drove in a leased operation hauling for Mayflower from 1971 through 1991. Sometimes though the CB fails. Winter 1978 - 1979, coming out of Seattle and heading for Fargo, ND I encountered a blizzard, complete with heavy winds and 70 below zero with the wind-chill. I ended up with gelled fuel filters and fuel lines and obviously, the engine quit running. Needless to say, I had to pull off on the shoulder. I hollered on the CB for help for a half hour or more while much truck traffic passed me by. Not a single come back asking if I was okay or needed help. In the bunk, I went into my down sleeping back along with my Doberman and we survived until about 5 hours later when a North Dakota State Trooper stopped and banged on my door. Within a half-hour, I was being towed into Fargo from only 30 miles west of Fargo to get my truck running again. So yea, CB Radios do help, but only if those with CB Radios respond.
I started driving in 1990 and CB's were a great way to communicate, I noticed as time moved forward CB's were less and less used by the otr driver. It got to the point in the 2000's that I didn't turn on the radio anymore.

Pick a good company a safe company and get your experience at least 5 year's then make a move if you want. But pick a company you can pull different kind of loads equipment it helps 😉. Make that money know your limits.
Guys, this is a good video! My Dad is now 86 yrs old and he drove his own truck until he was 82. He was an owner operator since he was 20 yrs old. In his mid years he ran 3 or 4 trucks. And pretty much always did his own maintenance. And I really like Dave there. He knows what he is doing in the trucking world. Guys, I really enjoy watching your videos. Keep em coming.
It's a lifestyle not a job. Forget about having a family being married with the little house with the white picket fence. Because usually you're always gone. Forget about all the toys too. If you're sitting in that truck that is your toy. you'll spend hours and hours in weeks in months in that truck. I did it for 36 years but I started back in the '70s.

People who don't like that lifestyle, quickly find other options in a country like the US. In some countries; maybe not so easy.

I always have my CB on i have been driving for 3 years its a good practice it has help out a lot. I remember one day I had one year driving and it was a hot day like 120° and a trucker told me " hi FTS driver you have a CB" I was like yes he told me "your trotting rubber" I pull over and yup I had a blo out.

I’m retiring from climbing trees for the last 36 years and at 57 I’m thinking of going to truck driving school. Still a little unsure this is what I want but I like work by myself and I want a rig like that one.
I had the same attitude with my job. It ceased being fun coincidentally, on the day I turned 50 and became eligible for retirement. 28 days later I was on the pension roll. Best decision ever.
Had a 95 W-900 back a few years ago loved that truck. 36 years really seems just like yesterday, ran Chicago-Dsm from 1986-89 Minneapolis-Chicago 1989-1997, Minneapolis-Fargo,SouixFalls 1997-2000- Ran pigs from SooLine BN to BMC 1990-1992 Detroit Memphis Kansas City hauling the mail for numerous contractors been to ro many p.o. to mention I do miss it.

I have seen now that I have a job that I'm home every night, I wake up after 3 or 4 hours of sleep. I'll go back to sleep because it's 7 am and I work swings and I feel worse when I wake up the second time. When I was out on the road 3-4 hours sleep a night and I was fully ready for the day.
@@tombrady565, it’s so weird how stuff works like that. I know I’m the same exact way. If I sleep more than 3-4 hours, then my entire day is just a drag. The longer I sleep, the more tired I am through out the entire day. Doctors claim we need 8 hours of sleep, but I say to heck with that. Seems like a lot of us suffer from sleeping longer than just a few hours.
Can’t imagine having all that. I’ve got a 2012 386 long frame (factory) and honestly I’ve driven with worse turning radius but nothing like that beast would be. Be nice to be able to walk around, actually cook and so on but idk

I could never ever live inside my truck full time I can’t even stand being inside my truck for 2 days. Why would someone want to live inside their truck is beyond me and I’ve been trucking for over 17 years now I just can’t find any good enough reason to want too. As a otr owner operator I drive for around 3 months before I get home and sick of this ! 3 months is too much but living in a truck is over the line!

I’m stationed at Moody AFB in Valdosta GA, I’m a heavy equipment operator.
I’d love to pick your brain and get some advice about getting into trucking when I’m done with my military contract man.
I could never ever live inside my truck full time I can’t even stand being inside my truck for 2 days. Why would someone want to live inside their truck is beyond me and I’ve been trucking for over 17 years now I just can’t find any good enough reason to want too. But big props to him I guess if it makes him happy then it’s alright. I just like women and being social

To do everyday what you want, no bosses, traffic, stress - yeah it really sucks, LOL
Point is this, if you can, I mean financially able to retire at ANY age, better sooner then later ... DO IT.
Do not listen to those "you're admitting to be old" or "you're ready to die" crowds, that is bunch of BS.

Hope you can ask these questions for the truckers. What they think about electric semi truck like Tesla when that come out in a year or two and will they trade-in their truck for that? Thanks
