  • Dunstaffnage Castle and Chapel, Argyll. The Real 'Red Wedding'
    A visit to the castle to learn of it's history, and many significant visitors. We also visit the chapel remains to discuss murderous intent on hallowed ground.

    It's amazing how much has survived. I loved seeing the fireplaces. It must have been amazing when it was all intact. Thanks for sharing the history of the castle!

    I was there on a cold January day a few years ago. It's a lovely place to wander round and the Chapel, during my visit, was just so serene. I've never forgotten the feeling I had standing in it. Good to see it in the sun! Thanks for this.

    That was a glorious weekend. It was lovely to meet you then. Dunstaffnage Castle is always lovely to visit, and I know that I'm lucky to take part in the re-enactments at the castle.

      @@ExploringScotlandsHistory I so appreciate that! It would be such a pleasure to visit sites with you. My finances are such that I doubt that I will ever be able to make the trip. It would be grand, though.

    Amazing and beautiful place . Imagine the building of this place . The man power . The times . The people and their daily lives . Hard lives . Hard work. Love this . Love the colors of stones. I think about the fireplaces and the people , conversations and the busyness. Beautiful for me to look at . However to live in these those times . Have to be a hardy lot . Great story. Great history. Thanks Julie .

      The manpower would have been epic! I don't think their lives were as hard as we like to think. A different pace of life, and far less things to distract you. I think I would have been happy living in times past!

    Did they ever discover why the man was stabbed. Why made the killer do it? Did he believe he would go free afterward?

    • @ExploringScotlandsHistory
      @ExploringScotlandsHistory  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The man killed Sir John in a bid that Dugald would not get the inheritance. Obviously Dugald still got what he was due as John's son. Crazy times....

    All MacDougall's should read these: The Sea Kings, and The Kingdom of The Isles both by R. Andrew McDonald. 2 great books on our progenitor Somhairlidh mhór mac Gillebride mhic Gilledomnán (Somerled) who reclaimed the whole of Argyll and the islands from the Vikings.
