Diablo's Drop Off isn't as scary as it sounds. Back in the day, this was a scary obstacle that many wouldn't try. Today, with all the issues that have come from the drop, the park has started grading the trail, making it easy to travel down. But be warned, rain can undo all the park services' work in seconds, making this trail impassable. Always inspect the drop before traveling down it.

@@Trailsoffroad haha - actually it's Peg Leg Smith - there's an unofficial monument there. The story goes that he found gold someplace but could never find that spot again. Thus, the Liars Convention - when we went there were maybe 50 people, each would tell some wild tale about the gold or Peg Leg. Wild costumes and props. One group brought a paper mache viking boat as part of the story and burned it on the log fire.
Great Video!!! It is shocking to see how much easier Diablo Drop has gotten over the years. It is getting close to Civic easy.
We are going to do one more run down the trail in the next month. If the trail is as easy as it was in March. We might downgrade the trail rating a to a 2.

Haha, true. Im surprised you made it that far. I just went thorough in a Titan on 33s with Icon lift and was scraping going down. I really think it depends on when you go through...

Most of the trails out there are Sand Washes cut out of the desert. In this case it is not as big as the others so the canyon is much more narrow and the flow doesn't wash the rocks out as well as the other washes in the area.
I went out there today....Soo different now...super soft sand all over...all the old ruts are pretty much gone..i went down and up pretty easy....thought i was in the wrong place..
Still pretty cool ride though
yeah, when they bulldoze it, it is a totally different trail.

@@matthewsipe8905 They run a bulldozer through the trail to keep the grade easy. We will be out there tomorrow to see how it is looking, but odds are it will be back to the easy slope once again.

I did this run in 1977 in a Datsun 2 wheel drive 1/2 ton pick up, in and out, unassisted, and I'm a girl! True story. I stopped while in the canyon to have lunch after photographing the trip in and 3 4x4's came in and one guy told another "See, I told you there has to be some other way out of here!" He was very surprised to learn otherwise, lol.
When I was a kid my grandpa made us all get out while he lowered tire pressure and crawled up diablo. Now it looks like a lifted smart car could easily climb it compared to a Jeep with a 5” lift in it
I was with a bunch of broncos last weekend and the Diablo drop off is no more. It hardly more then a short steep hill now.
They need the change the name to Pussy Dropoff.
Yeah, it isn't what it once was. That is for sure.
Conditions look better than when I did it with my wife's Outback in December 2016, to much silt.
