I don’t think two homophones can be considered a legitimate category when there’s a third homophone that fits just sitting there.

I have to start doing this the way you do it by trying to figure out your groups before making my first guess. I botched this one pretty good.

My first thought was:
Ewe, Pig, Cow, Chicken, Hound (Animals)
Wheat, Rye, Barley, Corn (Crops)
Under, Lap, You (Over___)
Pine, Yew (Trees)
Hot (Single)
But the actual solution makes much more sense
