I love the sounds of these monsters back in those days. Not only could you hear the rumble and the turbo scream on these but they would make the ground vibrate as well, something on par to the GE U36C's did in the 1980's. I would buy one of these if I had the space and funds to do it. But thank you for sharing your footage of these monsters in action. This is from my favourite era of BR trains.

On full chat they are fantastic. 56091 is the only one left that sounds as they did in the 90s. The Colas machines are very muted in comparison

    Awesome 😎
The simultaneous thump from the engine combined with the turbo scream and the stunning design of these locos makes these my standout loco.
Wish I had the funds to buy one before the remainder are ruined, aka class 69.
    Great video, thank you 👏🏻

Glad I made the effort back in the 90s to film them on full chat.
Have zero interest in the 69s, with the heavily silenced lump in them

Some of these the Class 40/50 ancestry of the power plant really comes through. Particularly impressive bass in the one of the fully loaded MGR on Stormy Bank.

@@hughesy45108 If they'd been Sulzer (production version of Kestrel) the UK railfans (who always seem to prefer EE engines to Sulzer) wouldn't have been so vocal as they were about the EMD repowered 69s... We didn't get 'stick the Sulzer back' with the 57s...

You certainly can't! Sadly most of the surviving ones don't "thump " like the ones in the 90s. 091 head and shoulders above the Colas ones . 090 , 113 , 105 being the best of those.
