  • The 2020-21 residency match is soon upon us. Residency applications are due mid-October for this year's match and it will definitely be different from years past. In this video, I take you through a 2018 survey showing exactly what program directors think is important when it comes to offering interviews and ranking applicants (and how important each thing is).

      That's exactly right. These surveys are just data that are self reported by the program directors so its difficult to tell if this is an accurate representation of how they actually choose applicants for interviews or rank lists. My guess is that once you interview, your test score, letters of rec, etc. will be a factor, but significantly less important than the program's impression of you during the interview, as reflected in that second figure.
