    Is there any programs you recommend for a sophomore in high school? Is it all independent or are there some programs in the umkc area that would look good for an application?

    • @jacobpereramd8094
      @jacobpereramd8094 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No specific programs that I can think of but ultimately you need to show interest in the healthcare field. For me there were summer programs local to me for math and science that exposed us to lots of things. So whether it’s something like that or shadowing, you need to have something on your application that shows your interest in medicine

    Hi Jacob, do you have the information about weather UMKC accept or not international students in their BA/MD program?

    • @jacobpereramd8094
      @jacobpereramd8094 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I believe they do, but I would double check the website to be sure! It is challenging though as they have set percentages of students they take from Missouri and regional states prior to allowing outside students

    • @jacobpereramd8094

      No benefit to submitting early that doesn’t weigh into the process. I would try and get as much experience as possible and just make sure it’s submitted before the deadline!

    I am a rising senior and interested in UMKC 6yr BAMD program.I didn’t know before what I needed to do to get into this program so I am late to the game.Please advice what can I do now to increase my chances to get into this program.I am a Missouri resident.I do have clinical shadowing but my volunteering hours and are not a whole lot.My ACT is 34 and would have taken 7 AP by end of high school. Also how can you be a scribe in High school because that requires High school graduation degree? Should I take ACT again and aim for 35 or 36 to increase my chances.

    • @jacobpereramd8094
      @jacobpereramd8094 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Your ACT is good and well above the average for a student accepted into the program. Scribing is hard to get into as a high school student but any healthcare experience or shadowing will help you. Some cities have summer camps or workshops that you can join to show interest. Ultimately the more healthcare experience you have the better but academically your scores are great! Applications will be coming out soon if they aren’t already so make sure you spend time on your essays too!

    Great video, thank you! I did a brisket yesterday on my Napoleon charcoal grill and it turned out perfect. I used cherry wood chunks along with Weber briquettes and Kamado Joe lump charcoal. I used a mesquite rub and spritzed with a mixture of apple cider vinegar and Worcestershire Sauce. I wrapped mine in butcher paper for the last couple of hours. My wife put garlic butter on the inside of fresh calabrese buns which I grilled on the BBQ while the brisket was resting and then I added some swiss cheese slices to the buns for a few minutes. The brisket was sliced and layered on the buns and then topped with sauteed onions and mushrooms, horseradish, and crispy fried onions (packaged). Wow!

    Do you feel that undergraduate study is quite grueling at UMKC for the 6-year BS MD program? I heard that the dropout rate is very high for this program. Which major did you choose? Were you able to register for the courses that you needed?

    • @jacobpereramd8094
      @jacobpereramd8094 ปีที่แล้ว

      The undergrad portions of the program can be quite challenging because you are on average taking much more classes than a normal college freshman would. This of course would be less if a student came in with lots of AP or transfer credits. The drop rate is high in the first 2 years because students either realize that medicine truly wasn’t for them or that the coursework was too much. I chose the liberal arts major pathway and had no issues registering for classes. Hope that helps!

    • @jacobpereramd8094
      @jacobpereramd8094 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your son has done excellent academically you should be very proud! I think with the experience that he has he could certainly be a good candidate. As mentioned the review process is holistic and there are essays involved in the application so everything is important. Once you get to the interview stage that is the time to shine but based on just this he certainly has a great shot. His stats are definitely more impressive than mine were.

    Hey Jacob I have a question! I am very interested in this program, but was wondering if taking this route would affect job options or salary compared to someone who took the traditional 8 year route. I love science and medicine, but with the time put in and tuition costs I’d want to make sure it was worth it and not be less of a candidate for a job in the future than someone who did the regular 8 years. Thanks!

    • @jacobpereramd8094
      @jacobpereramd8094 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Great question. When you finish medical school you enter into the same match process as everyone else from all of the other MD and DO schools. There is no discrepancy as to which program you went to or how long it took. I matched into residency with people from all over the country and who did the traditional route. In short, it doesn't affect your salary or job opportunities, just saves you time and allows you to get started on your career sooner!

    Hello! I have a few questions. May I ask what your courseload was for all 4 years of HS? And were you able to get a 32 on the ACT on your first try? Currently, I'm a junior in HS and taking AP stats, will I have to take an AP calculus class either AB or BC in my senior year to be able to apply and be considered for this program as an out of state applicant from TX?

    • @jacobpereramd8094
      @jacobpereramd8094 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Hayeon! During high school I took a pretty normal course load. I took 5 AP classes throughout my 4 years which isn't a ton but helped me out with some credits. My first ACT was a 32 but this was after I took a prep course. AP calculus is not required for this program, the highest level math class you will need will be college level algebra equivalent which I believe either AP calculus or AP statistics should cover! Best of luck in applying!

    • @jacobpereramd8094
      @jacobpereramd8094 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tough to say! The content that you are learning is pretty much the same, but the thing that makes BA/MD programs more challenging is the condensed nature of the program, meaning its likely, especially in the beginning of the program, that you have more classes and responsibilities to juggle at one time than the average undergrad/med student would. Its all about prioritization and staying organized!
