Much less 'cool' was an undercarriage bounce and near-wingtip-strike at Frankfurt (Maine) Airport during storm Barra (?) in Feb 2022. Our Lufthansa pilot had been much too determined to 'get us down' despite massive turbulence and wing-flapping throughout our final approach. Full TOGA was only applied after we had actually bounced on the tarmac. It took another 15-20 mins to achieve a properly stabilized approach and landing. Much apologising from the flight deck. but certainly no applause from the much more phlegmatic, seasoned business passengers.
i suspect the frightened passengers are clapping the heros who battled throught the storm to eventually bring them to earth safely.....is that not worth a round of applause?
