Thanks for the good wisdom, once again! Not only do I need to put my faith in the manufacturer but I also like to read as many reviews from other hunters who have already shot the broadhead that I'm buying. If they say that the broadhead (s) fly straight and they are repeated buyers, then this helps me make the decision to trust the manufacturer. Hope this makes sense? This is one of the reasons I went with Swhacker broad heads. 125 grain with a 2 1/4" mechanical blades makes a deadly wound.
NAP makes a spitfire mechanical broadhead 100or 125 grain with (dull) practice blades. I've tested using used broadheads. Shoots the same as practice blades. Practice blades actually use the same broadhead point, just different blades.
You keep getting better and better! All Good topics. I am leaning towards single bevel broadheads like-Bone broadheads. No Affiliation- just naming them. Solid one piece teflon coated 55 Rockwell hardness Steel that is single bevel cut Theory is ribs are only so wide-large wings get deflected or stuck-This (type) is front of center loaded and will break bone or pass thru? 125 grams though. Can't wait till your video on what you decided. You were fortunate enough to be born with good uncommon sense! I'll bet your "adequate" as an Attorney! Here in Florida that is a complement and recomendation spoken of an Attorney. All Hail Bunjie!
I customized my arrows with brass inserts to get more front of center. That really made my broadheads more accurate. I also sacrifice one and superglue one or two of them.
Death by Bunjie they do look great!! What is the total wt. Of your hunting arrow and broadhead? And have you done a speed test on it ? Just wonder what kind of speed your getting.
Good advice about telling people to shoot the actual mechanical head. I've found some practice heads hit close to the actual head and some are a couple of inches off. Keep shooting.
I have great success using the rage 125 grain cross bow broadheads the practice heads shoot as true as the hunting heads . On a well placed shot my tracking job is short and lots of blood !!!!!!!!! 35 yards is my longest track job . i shoot a crossbow that shoots at 370 fps its good to 50 yards . hope this helps you decide have a great season .
Thank you always for such insightful videos!! Question though is what are the pros and cons of both fixed and mechanical broad heads and which do you prefer for which jobs?
Thanks for watching! You could talk about this topic for hours! Off the top of my head, fixed blades are better for penetration, especially with older slower crossbows or with really heavy big game like bison or moose. The problem is they have a smaller cutting diameter and they don't fly straight in my experience, even from one Arrow to another. For that reason, personally, I have no interest in using fixed blade broadheads. I prefer the bigger cutting diameter and perfect flight of Mechanicals, and I've always had good luck with them. In my experience the rages and the swackers Fly pretty much like field points out to 60 yards, and they do a lot of damage! I can't ask for much more than that haha. I use the same broadheads for turkey, deer, and Wild hogs. I hope that helps!
@@Deathbybunjie it helps immensely!! Thank you! Would you say the drawback of mechanical broad heads is the risk of blades breaking? And on a big target like moose or elk I would think the margin for error is a little kinder than say on a deer or boar 🐗 that need almost pinpoint at any amount of distant. 🤔 And finally, no crossbow could kill a target at 100yrds, right? Would you say the max distant within reason is 50-70 yards? Or is closer always better? I mean, everyone in my family thinks I’m a crack shot (my target practice is squirrels to protect the house from invasion) but crossbow is going to be all new for me. 😅 but I’m up to the challenge! Thank you again so much!
@@diaryofagoat-lass1023 modern crossbows probably possess enough energy to kill at 100 yards, but so much can go wrong that I totally do believe that closer is better. Especially if you're just starting out! I'd say 30 and under with a modern crossbow. I've been hunting with a crossbow since 2010 and I'd have to say 80 or 90% of my shots are 20 yards or less. As for the risk of blades breaking, that is a possibility if they hit a shoulder blade or something like that but even then it's not that big a concern, at least for me. Frankly, I don't care how mangled up to Broadhead gets going through an animal as long as it goes through. It's going to do a bunch of damage just by passing through. I don't reuse them without replacing the blades anyway. But that's me! Good luck and keep me posted!
Great video,I just bought the grim reaper " white tail special " broadheads and new Black eagle bolts and I'm very happy at their performance so far at target practice.Hopefully I get to try them out tomorrow at opening day of archery season here in pa
@@Deathbybunjierich I really want you to try out the dead meat v2 broadheads for the crossbow or even the mega meat broadbeads I have used many many brands swacker being one of them I did like them but the rubber band never sat right with me since I had one break in the field and I was not aware of it till it was time to shoot. The mega meat broadbeads I have had tremendous luck with them. Leaving massive holes on entrance and exit. Just my opinion but I think you would truly like them. Fits your hunting style very well making sure you got a good broadside shot and from about 20 yards
@@Deathbybunjie if it ain’t broke don’t fix it I’m just trying to recommend a brand in my experience I found that work amazing for me. You and bunjie do a pretty good job already. I love the black eagle bolts also. I wish someone would have told me about the mega meats and dead meats sooner lol so I always feel compelled to recommend them.
I will add that (by what I have seen) many people who say that their broadheads do not group are seeing this because their arrows are too weak in spine and/or the run out is too high for the shaft they are shooting. Manufacturers rarely include top level arrows with package sales and instead, elect to put a package together based on the competitive price for retail. Anyway....This is especially true when hearing people talking about poorly grouping expandables. Broadhead design (aerodynamics ) do vary and some heads truly are poor fliers but (now a days) it is easier to check to see if it isn't the arrow being too weak as opposed to buying another 50 dollar pack of broadheads, which may or may not correct a potential under lying issue.

I've been using fixed blade BH on my Excaliburs for over 10yrs 100gr made by wasp..suggested by Excalibur ...they have performed excellent never lost a deer except for one ..i didn't wait long enough ( being too cocky) found lots of blood but tried to cross a fast moving river and we never got it...turtles and others ate well

Great tips on the broadhead subject , did super glueing the expandable give it any extra weight ? I'm shooting ramcats myself. But heard some good reviews on those x-act's .
Like the video! Last year I used the Spitfire 100 grain Broadhead. This year I am going to step it up to the Spitfire 125 grain. Mainly because I bought the Micro 335 and it has a 16.5 inch bolt so I went to a heavier broadhead for more weight up front. I have a video on my channel of a doe I shot last year with the Spitfire if you want to watch it. Is the Spitfire in your finial 3? I wanted to try the X-Act but couldn't fine it in 125 grains.
Another excellent video! A little off subject, but have you ever tried using ordinary car wax on your arrow shafts? It's supposed to make it easier to pull them out of your target. All hail... Bungie!
I have never had problems pulling them out of targets. Well, the deer and hog decoy targets that I have are kind of tough. But they don't have a lot of penetration so I can use an arrow puller on them. But my block Target was not a problem usually, especially given that it's kind of shot up now.
If I could add one thing. When you find one that shoots good go buy several packages so you don’t have to change every other year. I have several different broad heads that I cannot find anymore that I would rather use but they fly a bit different than the others. I want all three to be the same and fly the same. Good luck this season. I’m going to keep trying my best to get my state to allow crossbows during the normal archery season. Adios!!!
Rich : Just want to make sure I have this right . When sighting in your mechanical crossbow arrows, you superglue the blades down on one of the broad heads so they do not open up?
On an old used one...cuts down on target destruction. These days I'm using a rage, and they come with practice heads (the ones I was using back then didnt)
Another good vid....so I subscribed. Like your common since approach. Thanks! Changed to Rage hypodermic crossbow broad-head. Have you ever had one get stuck in a crossbow target and will it pull out if the broad-head does not go through the other side of target? Worried a little...... have shot fixed blades for 30 years and they pull out well.
That is a common problem with modern crossbows. If the foam targets will stop your arrows the way mine do (old crossbow) they pull out easy. The block style targets are tough though. I'm not aware of a good option .
The one that is most accurate with your crossbow, I say try a few you're interested in and see. Hypodermic worked great for me can't wait to share video
Is there some type of broadhead or some other tip that will HOLD and be hard to pull out ? That is what I need. I fly remote control foam airplanes that sometimes land in a tree. I want an arrow with a tip that will pierce into the foam and hold so I can pull the plane loose from branches.
I don't know of anything like this...it'd be so deep into the tree you wouldn't get it out with these crossbows. Maybe look at archery fishing tools, those are designed to hold...
If I shoot my quills with a broad head bolt cutter..if it shoots true, and I unscrew the head and re screw it on, can I trust it will shoot the same? Or if I take a brand new quill with another bolt cutter, can I trust it will shoot true in the field? Or should I shoot one bolt with the broad head for practice and use that same arrow in the field?
Those fixed blade broadheads are the reason that I switch to Mechanicals many many years ago. In my experience they did not fly the same from one arrow to the next. Some people have great success with them but I find them too unpredictable for my taste.
Shaun Tucker That was MY problem! I built a target out of a cardboard box, filled with newspapers, phone books..., so then I could unscrew them, and dig the head out. Worked great! BUT! I had switched to heavier aluminum bolts; So my next shot, I was 8” hi rt! I thought wth? (That was at 40.) So I went to 30, hi rt, 5”. Here, the aluminum bolt must have gotten slightly bent on the phone book, and was useless. A carbon may have been OK. I will never shoot a real broadhead again. I will just have to trust that “ they fly like a field point”, like ALL broadheads advertise!
I had one arrow I put through a dozen animals, finally broke on a doe in Maryland. For practice don't shoot at same spot where an arrow is... work your way around the target. Touching other arrows with a shot is bad, will damage them. They should last a long time that way.

Yes I did! It was not quite as accurate as my rage crossbow hypodermic, but it was still a little bit more accurate than the X act from Excalibur. That is from what I remember, the exact details are in that livestream if you want to go back and look at that.

Hello, I got another question for you. Is it worth paying an extra $100 to buy a crossbow that shoots about 30 fps faster. Both are excaliber matrix bows?
Well you do get more room to play with 360 than 330. What I mean by that is if you use heavier arrows or if you put sound dampening equipment on it slows down the bow, you may go down to 330. If you start at 330 you might go down to 300. For a hundred bucks, it's probably worth it, especially if you plan on keeping that bow long term. That's my gut feeling.

going from 330 fps to 360 fps
Well you do get more room to play with 360 than 330. What I mean by that is if you use heavier arrows or if you put sound dampening equipment on it slows down the bow, you may go down to 330.
