    This would be a great idea for the next Kong film.The Frankenstein Golem design O'Brien designed is awesome.

      @@downwiththemaster : That's a matter of opinion. BTW, did anyone notice how closely the Troll in *Lord of the Rings 1: The Fellowship of the Rings* looks to Willis O'Brien's Frankenstein Monster's/Prometheus creature creation's design? Since Peter Jackson, Randy Cook and the rest of the Weta designers at the time were all Willis O'Brien fans (they said so in the BTS when making Jackson's *King Kong*), I can see the vast similarities as being a sort of nod / homage to a great, yet ultimately unrealized O'Brien design.

      O brien a inventé le procédé du stop motion et fait connaître un émule le grand ray harryausen. Leurs oeuvres est magnifiques pleines de poésies et est ma préférence a l image de synthèses ou tout va trops parfois ont a pas le temps de voir l action .

    There was a Japanese film called "Frankenstein Conquers the World" in 1965 which saw a version of the Frankenstein Monster Battle a giant enemy. In the film, scientists investigate the origins of a mysterious boy that was created by a mad scientist and his resistance to radiation that makes him grow to monstrous size.

    • @varanid9
      @varanid9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that film was actually s residual result of all this; originally, it was supposed to be Frankenstein vs Godzilla, a follow up to King Kong vs Godzilla.

      "Frankenstein's" heart was at Hiroshima that's what grew to be the monster it sorta looked like a caveman version of the monster. then it had a sequel war of the Gargantuas

    As a longtime appreciator of stop motion, I love the fact that it’s been a part of cinema since the beginning. Thank you for a good summary of this important chapter in special effects history.

    12:55 World Trade Center was in 1976, I think you meant to say Empire State Building which was where Obrien's Kong was killed.

    12:56 World Trade Center? No, the original Kong was shot off The Empire State Building. The WTC was in the 70's remake by Dino De Laurentas.

    The Japanese did take the Frankenstein story and merged it with King Kong, basically the Frankenstein monster became King Kong, it was called War of the Gargantuas which was a sequel to Frankenstein Conquers the World. A boy is given Frankenstein's heart and in the sequel grows large and becomes an evil King Kong Frankenstein Monster than also is split in half and now there is two Giant Frankenstein King Kong Monsters.

      Toho tried so damn hard to have a King Kong vs. Frankenstein movie. I wanna say both _King Kong vs. Godzilla_ and _Frankenstein Conquers the World_ were originally drafted as Kong vs. Frankenstein movies.

    • @bri55118
      @bri55118 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      King Kong vs. godzilla was intended to originally feature the Frankenstein monster instead of kong. That's why kong has electricity powers.
      Frankenstein vs. baragon also was to feature godzilla before being changed.

    No Hollywood studio would touch O'Brien's script. So in desperation he gave the script to a shady producer named John Beck who took it to Toho, Toho at the time( this was 1962) looking for a way to bring Godzilla back to the big screen after a 7 year absence So Toho threw out the Frankenstein angle and inserted Godzilla and it became King Kong vs.Godzilla Needless to say Willis O'Brien was absolutely heartbroken.

    Poor Obie; this business can be extremely cruel to creative people (especially the ones who put so much personal sacrifice and passion into their art), and tragically he was one of many examples of great artists getting screwed.

    as a fan of clark ashton smith, and his version of frankenstein, "the colossus of ylourgne" i keep thinking that o'brien's vision of the monster would have been perfect for an adaptation of the story. i can see ernest thesigrt as the sorcerer nathaire, colin clive as his disciple...

    Presumably people living in Africa had discovered the gorilla somewhat earlier. The explorer Hanno 2,500 years ago encountered a tribe of savage hairy humanoids on an island off Africa asking his interpreters who they were they replied they were called the Gorillai, which in their language meant “tribe of hairy women.”

    Original King Kong did not survive the World Trade Center! The World Trade Center construction started in the 1960's. Kong did not survive the altercation at the Empire State Building. The Empire State Building even sells memorabilia suggesting this fact to this day! Wow what a mess and inaccurate this video is around the 12 minute mark!
