    One item I found in my early 60s was I didn’t get down on the floor anymore and realized how hard it was for me to get up from the floor. I try to make this a regular routine. In the beginning I can tell you it wasn’t pretty getting up. Pushing 68 years old now and get up much better.

    Great advice.
    Since I was a teen I have kept racquetballs around to squeeze in different ways for both strength and stress relief. It has helped give me great grip and forearm strength and endurance. I introduced my teenage son to it and in just a few months of regular use his grip has almost tripled and it’s improved his BJJ training. Also, I met a guy who was incredibly strong who never lifted weights in his life, but what he did was push against block walls as if he was going to push them over. He’d stand and push with everything he had several times a day for many years. Though he never pushed a wall over, he became immensely strong and when people tried to grapple with him he’d never get pushed back or pushed off balance. He was like a solid wall himself. Lastly, I’ve seen bodybuilders with massive physiques get manhandled by average construction workers because it’s a totally different kind of strength: gym strength and working man strength. Though the working man strength isn’t as pretty or flashy, it seemed most effective when it really counted.
    Great video.

    I'm probably not going to get there. At one point, I thought I would. Just before my health failed in 2015, I took a great walk. I left my home at just below 6900' elevation and walked towards the hills. There's a bit of a depression, and it might have dipped almost to 6800'. Then, I climbed the hills towards a pass. The pass was in the 7500' to 7600' range. I was still badly overweight, but getting there felt great. The total walk in one way was three miles. I got home thinking that I was going to get back in shape. Then, the sickness hit. Since then, I've had a few times when I collapsed in the snow. I was wearing warm clothing, so I didn't hurt myself having to lie there for twenty minutes, but it was a bit scary. I did one photo shoot where I really didn't think I had exerted myself at all. Afterwards, I threw up. I was really glad that the model had already left. I've learned to listen when my mind tells me that I've had enough.
    I've always had a problem with falling over backwards when I push my hips too far back when doing squats. I used to hold the biggest weights I could stand out in front of me just to keep from tipping backwards. Now, I don't go backwards as much.
    I am doing squats with water jugs a few times a week. I have a couple of seven gallon jugs, and I can usually do about fifteen squats. I have some sand bags around the place that I use to make shooting backstops. They weigh about sixty pounds each, and I do okay lifting them. I just can't go very far with them, and I have to rest afterwards. Again, I'm alone, and if I faint and get hurt, there's no one to find me until I'm gone.

      It’s a relative thing. There will always be some who are stronger and some who are weaker. None of that matters. What matters is only progress. Not progress toward more strength, but progress toward more life and engaging with life. You are stronger in that way and so many other ways as well. I can read it in your posts. You are winning, you are alive!

(also signing up for CANE-DO from ACSD- which has health stuff in that too-- because the accident also wiped out a lot of my "memory" and even muscle memory of my 5 martial arts- but wasn't very useful for street anyway)

    Hi, Matt. 2Q: What do you think about single-leg squats? And do do you have a vid about developing flexibility? There's plenty out there, but from your.experience? I have MS but fully ambulatory with balance and sometimes strength/fatigue issues. Sometimes I think the imbalance could be mitigated by better flexibility. Like balancing on one leg is difficult if you're completely rigid, but less rigid means more individual parts of he body can realign to keep the balance.

    • @pasquinilli
      @pasquinilli  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you are right on track! Single leg squats are great! Use your hands to assist you by holding on to the back of a chair or a counter at first. Work up to it slowly and be patient but you should be able to do it. The kind of movement you are talking about would be a great thing to pursue and you will likely benefit greatly.

    Matt, in your opinion which is the best free standing punch bag? Thanks

    • @pasquinilli
      @pasquinilli  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Century’s standing bags last the longest by far. I’ve used them and bought them all in the past when I had a big school. Beat them all until they broke. Century spent the most time and put a lot of research into them at the start and has sold more than anyone, so they have the most feedback from both home users and school users like me. I sell them in my store or if you look at Facebook marketplace or offer up, you can find gently used bags for a good price. It’s like other home gym equipment, people buy them but most never get used.
