The girl in the apartment below me was playing these guys, only I had no idea who they were. I woke up from a nap. I had a great dream. She had been playing their cd. I got up wondering why I felt the way I did and finally realized music was playing muffled under the floor. So I literally listened with my ear to the floor for lyrics to find out who they were.
I think you'll like Paul Newman more if you experience it live. I think all fans are in agreement there needs to be a 3rd Gleam. Though my personal list for the album is exceeding the length of the other Gleam albums. This song is a top contender to me. The music is beautiful and the lyrics are saturated with emotion.
I agree I can't even listen to that Paul Newman song all the way threw, I was excited about this song being on the album, also Skin and bones totally goes with the carpenter concept " I built the fence I hung the side" I blame Rick Rubin, I give The Carpenter as an album a 2 out 5
I like this breakdown around 1:40 cause it sounds so much like "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" by the Band. Try it! When it rolls around, sing Now I don't mind chopping wood and I don't care if my money's no good you take what you need and you leave the rest but they should never have taken the very best
I completely agree with you. I imagine the Brothers had fun with Paul Newman, but I just don't enjoy it. This song, on the other hand, is superb. Heard them play it in Reno in 2010, and I didn't want them to stop playing it.
Adam Grundvig they write their songs personally. So when putting together an album it might not be about what style they think we all might like.. it's true to them.. it's art. They're not creating a pop album that has a goal to sell and that's it. They create their songs honestly. Imagine making something original yourself, and about your own life and the things that you feel, that ended up on the billboard top 100... and then someone says "welllll that one song on there sucked." Cmon y'all

That's an interesting new way of discovering music. :)
The Avetts are my favorite band. If you're into them, check out The Punch Brothers.
STARVING!
One of their best songs! I'm bettin it'll be on the October live release.
My favorite song from the new album.
This was one of the more intelligent and well-thought-out comments I've ever seen on TH-cam.
Very hungry for new stuff...but patience usually brings good results.
They played this at Red Rocks this past weekend!

Best Song off Magpie for certain.
Magpie is such an underappreciated album
This is wonderful! I've seen them 3 times but never lucky enough to hear this one. What was the crowd like? Thanks for posting!
@aft19 I can hear it. It's brief but it's there.
