To me, A sounds like a villain theme, where the bad guy makes his monologue in the first half and leaps into battle in the second. AA sounds like when he's redeemed. He retired after his big battle when he realized he never really wanted everything he thought he did. Now it's years later, and a new villain has come to the town where he lives his quiet life. He knows he'll die if he gets in the new villain's way, but he has to do it to let the people he now cares about escape. It's still an action song, but it's slower and more measured, and it's melancholy like he's accepting his fate.
