- The red panda (Ailurus fulgens, or shining-cat), is a small arboreal mammal native to the eastern Himalayas and southwestern China. It is the only extant species of the genus Ailurus. Slightly larger than a domestic cat, it has reddish-brown fur, a long, shaggy tail, and a waddling gait due to its shorter front legs. It feeds mainly on bamboo, but is omnivorous and may also eat eggs, birds, insects, and small mammals. It is a solitary animal, mainly active from dusk to dawn, and is largely sedentary during the day.
The red panda has been classified as Vulnerable by IUCN because its population is estimated at fewer than 10,000 mature individuals. Although red pandas are protected by national laws in their range countries, their numbers in the wild continue to decline mainly due to habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, and inbreeding depression.
The red panda has been previously classified in the families Procyonidae (raccoons) and Ursidae (bears), but recent research has placed it in its own family Ailuridae, in superfamily Musteloidea along with Mustelidae and Procyonidae.Two subspecies are recognized.

While its scientific name means ‘fire-coloured cat’, the red panda actually shares more similarities with bears and racoons. Like the giant panda, the red panda’s diet is largely made up of bamboo, although it also eats roots, fruit, eggs and small lizards. The red panda has a modified wrist bone that acts as a sixth digit or thumb. Red pandas produce a number of vocalisations, the strangest of which is a ‘quack-snort’.

Can someone who speaks Japanese tell me what the lighter-colored red panda's name is? I already knew that the darker red panda's name is Marimo, and I can hear her say his name several times, but she talks too fast for me to make out what she calls the other one.

why do we not domesticate these animals?!?!?! they are so damn cute!!!!!
They are endangered in the wild. And the ones in captivity are not enough to create a diverse gene pool which could cause bad health to the babies.
Also, if people suddenly started taking them as pets the poachers would go in to capture them to make money selling them. Causing the red pandas a lot of suffering and endangering them even further. Like what happened to the cute animal called Slow Loris.
In the future however, with careful breeding programs it might be possible. We would also need pet stores to supply food for red pandas.

It does make sense. I can tell the difference between different languages although I do not speak them. You do have to hear the language first off but you do not have to speak it.
