$999 back then, around $300 on eBay refurbished now in 2016. It is still a great laptop for editing, watching TH-cam, typing, and much more. Most PC laptops with similar specs (better hard drive memory) cost upwards of $500. With $300, you get the reliability of a Mac, the easy interface of a Mac, and an amazing security system. I would recommend this computer to anyone who has/is considering to buy one.
This is seriously the best Apple computer that you could ever afford since it's upgradable. Good speaker, good screen display, etc. I have one my own and I loved it. My new Macbook Pro R. sucks a bit :D
***** You should be able to update to a newer version of OSX which comes with the updated version of iMovie. If you don't know how to do this message me and I can point you in the right direction :)
I bought mine brand new January 2010 for £900 with a snazzy case, now February 2014 and still going strong, never missed a beat, still on the original battery, and hard drive, it has now done 700 cycles and i still get around 3 - 4 hours use, would definitly put 4GB of ram in it though, i did this 2 years ago. Hope this helps anyone interested. Joey.
***** i got it right now works just fine mine is 5 years old. I bought this MacBook 2010 4gb ram 500 gigs of hard drive. Even goes up to Yosemite if your into that sort'v thing.
This is a very sweet and stable laptop. I bought mine back in 2010 and with a few upgrades (replaced HDD with a SSD and installed 8 GB rams) still running like a monster for daily use. Battery still goes for 5-6 hours. Best tech purchase to date :)
Just bought one in 2020 for under $200 and I’m pumped. Had I jumped on one 6 months ago I could’ve found one for a little over $100. The used markets been crazy
This macbook has been by far my favourite computer from Apple. I don't fancy the latest ones nearly as much as this version, it's perfectly fast for the operating system that it comes with, and has an amazing battery life, runs cool, and is really the perfect laptop. Sadly I didn't think to purchase one before I bought the current laptop that I have now, this one is a Windows machine and has nearly double the performance of the Mac, but it also has a awful trackpad, and a very flexible keyboard. The battery life of the thing barely reaches two hours on power save mode, and runs at around 70-80 degrees celsius. I'm thinking about selling this one and opting to buy one of the macs, and upgrade the RAM and install an SSD on it instead of the HDD that it comes standard with.
@punkster696 The specs are in the title. 2.4GHz Core2Duo. Runs fine with 2GB standard RAM. I upgraded to 8GB. Also now has an SSD inside, though again it worked fine with the standard hard drive.
i own the 2009 white unibody and the 2010 unibody versions...interesting fact abt the ram.. the 2009 will run with 1333mhz ddr3 while the Newer 2010 will only accept 1066mhz ram! this is due to the change in the video card, and while the newer one has a better performancecard, that card will prevent 1333mhz from booting..trust me ,ive tried it...another wild fact is there is very little difference in video and cpu performance between the 2.. the 2010 with the slower ram actually runs a tick quicker in ram tests despite showing its slower mhz..this is likely due to it running at same speed 1066 as the system bus speeds, thus 1:1
This was the laptop my primary school let us use. I loved the design and feel of it as a kid. That sleek white is something I wish they would bring back
this is still my favorite looking laptop in 2021. I have a 2012 unibody MacBook Pro but of corse I have to get a usable MacBook before I get a one I only have for looks. I am just looking for the looks so I am probably getting a 2006 instead of a newer one since I don't need the newer os.
It’s 2020 and I already have a 2018 MacBook Pro but I’m still salivating for this. Only Apple can make plastic this sexy. Also, your British accent doesn’t hurt.
They discontinued it so they could make the Macbook Air their entry level laptop. Crappy parts and no expandability means faster obsolescence so you'll be back for another one next year.
got mine from 2022 with a stock of 250GB of HDD and 2GB of ram..then I extended to the 500GB of SSD and 16 GB of ram..now, it runs on fully Catalina Patcher which is fully 64-bits than the previous High Sierra of 32-bits.
@CarbonDioxide1990 The port on the side is a combined headphone/line in port. So you can go in, but not monitor with headphones at the same time. The Pro is worth the extra if you need separate input for mic & output for headphones, firewire, plus the SD card slot.
@penguins623 You are incorrect, this is the Mid-2010 model. In May of 2010 Apple upgraded the MacBook with the faster 2.4GHz CPU and NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics. The late 2009 model you refer to was the introduction of the unibody design.
@kip982 Generally you are OK to plug in and charge, use whilst charging, and use whilst fully charged. I would get into the habit of cycling the battery and using to 0% at least once per month.
@UploaderTheMovie On this one, screen res is normal. MacBook Air or 15-inch Pro is needed for better screen res. In fact 15-inch you can opt for even higher res screen than the standard one.
@lamok1989 Don't worry too much. Early models of this one did crack, but the newer ones have the issue address. I do not think you will be disappointed and Apple have superb customer support. If you are worried buy Applecare for three years peace of mind, well worth it on a laptop.
@robertdevald Well FireWire is not suitable for mice, so only used for hard drives and video cameras really. With the advent of memory based video cameras, not many use FireWire any more, so it is not included on lower end laptops.
@YaromaaX Use it on battery until it runs out, then charge until full and continue to charge whilst you use for a couple of hours. This helps keep the battery cells in good condition.
Im a student. This is definitely the best option for students. Todays Airs offer very small SSD or relatively big but so expensive with larger SSDs. Battery is worse on todays Air or Pro as well. When this macbook was new it lasted for almost 10 hrs of web browsing. Now after almost 500 battery cycles it lasts for up to 7hrs of typing and browsing the web. This was the best option for students.
@WiiSpeakApple If you bought it April 2010 then by law they are obliged to fix the problem under warranty. If you have had continual repairs ask for it to be escalated to a Senior Customer Service Rep and ask if they could give you a brand new machine as it is too disruptive to keep accepting repairs. Keep your cool, be nice and they might help :) Good luck.
Just upgraded my Macbook 2010 to a Crucial SSD, also has 8GB Ram. Good for running some Bioinformatics scripts that I can't run on my windows machines... It's a nice computer considering the age. WAAAY quieter in use than my 2010 Dell inspiron was, This one will be with me for a while longer.
I still have one. Upgraded with a 500gig HD and 8 total gb RAM. Runs pretty good. I do all of my 'Throwback Chevy' editing on Final Cut Pro X with it for my channel. Plus it kind of reminds me of a stormtrooper. 💻
There are a few 2010 MacBooks available in my hometown stock 2 GB of RAM selling for $600 (CDN). They all have French Canadian keyboards. The store selling them has for sale keyboard overlays selling for about $25 (CDN). I am writing this note on a Lenovo T61 laptop running Linux Fedora 22 with 4 GB of RAM running GNOME 3.16.
@KnowsKungFu Well, the white MacBook is more robust than the delicate finish on the Pro. The white would be my choice, but if you have the cash go pro.
@090909Matt There is slight flex, but nothing to worry about. Laptop and keyboard on mine have stayed looking good with the occasional clean with a damp cloth. Heat can damage the body on the laptop, but again mine barely gets warm.
@WindowsPCtech101 The Air is reported to perform very well, however it is quite delicate. I would go for the white MacBook unless you need the ultra lightness of the Air.

However, it is literally starting to break apart: Its "exoskeleton" is literally starting to break. So if necessary, I think I'd buy this macbook, but it's gonna hurt so bad saying goodbye to my baby ):

This was my favorite Mac EVER!! Even more than the 2008 black MacBook. I loved this clamshell design so much.
🤓👍🏻
This is my first ever MacBook, I regret that i didn't use it very wisely and broke it too soon this one is one of the best, very fast back then !
Thanks for watching. Sorry to hear yours broke.

Geekanoids did it eventually break?
No, back in the day I used to sell to fund the new laptops for the channel.
Why did apple discontinue this laptop? The graphics card is actually better than the MacBook Pro lol
They wanted to go with the more prosumer market, plus MBP has more competitive specs.
Because the MacBook Air
can we play csgo on it lol?
It is a MacBook Pro nvm it isn’t
They discontinued it so they could make the Macbook Air their entry level laptop. Crappy parts and no expandability means faster obsolescence so you'll be back for another one next year.

No annoying voice no 5 year olds reviewing their parents laptop thanks to you I bought one today and Subscribed YAY
will it run dota 2?
inkmaster2010 well, look at that the specs of the game on steam, if it can run mac, yes, but it might overall not be applicable for mac
Mine still works almost as good as it did when I first bought it way back in 2010.
Awesome, great laptop.
Watching on mine right now hehehe >:3

@GoalHornDude Strange how 8GB worked fine. Thanks for watching though.

@RCInspireGirl One year warranty as standard. AppleCare extends this and phone support to three years.

2021 and I still have this laptop on that MacOS High Sierra. I also own another newer version apple computer but this is still my favorite looking Mac
Awesome 🤓👍🏻 I wish I still had mine.
@robertdevald It is a connection for hard drives and other devices, faster than USB and also offers device control for the likes of camcorders.
These are still decent laptops today. Definitely an option for people that don't want a Chromebook or Windows 10 laptop. Great review.
Very true and probably cheaper than some Chromebooks too.

Awesome. I wish I still had mine.
A revolutionary design back then just wish they used something like it in the modern days...

@YaromaaX Use it on battery until it runs out, then charge until full and continue to charge whilst you use for a couple of hours. This helps keep the battery cells in good condition.
@WindowsPCtech101 Yes durable, but the coating is very delicate. The white takes knocks better as it is made of thicker material.
This review made me to buy one on March 2012. So stunning white mac
🤓👍🏻
@fraserweere Depends if you experience a lot of issues with your current laptop, then sure, this is very reliable and stable.
Thank you, I really like your reviews. One of the best apple reviews on youtube IMO, keep it going!
@XsaberdustX Cool. Thanks for the comment.
@WindowsPCtech101 What do you plan to use it for? And is your budget tight, or an easy buy?

@Koncept90 Should get uncomfortably hot. You can leave charger plugged in, but cycle your battery once a month.
@Jazlynn405 Not the best, but not bad either. However, if you are running it all the time I would suggest spending the extra money on a Core i5 or i7.
@yourboymax The OS and starter apps are pre-installed.
@TechManiaKid Me too, but I read on OWC that 8GB kits were available, so tried it and it worked. Video online 14th August showing the upgrade.

Reasonable if in mint condition. Maybe a little less around 325.
I'm getting one at the end of July. I Cannot wait!! these reviews are hyping it up so well!
Very comprehensive review. I bought the mid-2009 MBP with a 10% student discount AND a 4GB RAM free upgrade. Back then it was a good bargain for me :)
If you look on Amazon you can find the older Aluminum Macbooks (not Macbook Pros) for about $600 used.

@MrTylerRich Thanks for your comment.
Wonderful review, definitely increased the chances of me getting one soon.
@melovesflying No, this is not really possible. However there is CrossOver for Mac which allows a limited selection of apps to run.
I still have one. Upgraded with a 500gig HD and 8 total gb RAM. Runs pretty good. I do all of my 'Throwback Chevy' editing on Final Cut Pro X with it for my channel. Plus it kind of reminds me of a stormtrooper. 💻

@robertdevald USB is the standard for hard drives, web cams, mice etc. You would not get a Firewire mouse for example.
I can finally afford this laptop for $100 in 2023

That battery usage is bloody brilliant!
@WindowsPCtech101 The Air is reported to perform very well, however it is quite delicate. I would go for the white MacBook unless you need the ultra lightness of the Air.
I'm eagerly waiting for my MacBook to arrive. I just ordered a refurbished one from Apple today.
@emilayyx4 No backlit keys on this one, webcam is 100% there and not an option to have it without.
@exxentrik That is correct, but be careful if you damage something they will not help.
2017 calling, still awesome device!
:D agreed.
This was my first MacBook and it performed really well but now I am using the MacBook Pro retina!
@JSantana319 My MacBook Pro was never replaced by Apple. So this one is on test and I might decide to keep it.
@NoWayGirly Thanks for watching.
@hockeymaestro1 No, this'll work fine with your existing internet connection. It already has airport card built in.
Dave, are you still enjoying the white Macbook on the go? This seems like the perfect notebook to take with you for portability.
Can't believe 3 years ago today is like 15 years ago.
i still use my machine, i have now 10gb of ram in it, a 250gb samsung ssd, and its patched to run mojave, i know they can go to catalina, but i rely on 32 bit support for a lot of my legacy bought software
So cool to hear this is still working well.
i wish the black and white macbooks were still on sale...
