It's not weird you felt like you were in the 90s again!😊 this song is an ode to the 90s when our country created the genre Happy Hardcore and it's an ode to Joost's parents who both died when he was 12 and 13. So yes, he wants to make people happy, but he's also very serious about this song and it's meaning😊

It doesn't matter where Joost travels or what he's eating, there will always be the pain of missing his parents. Nobody could help him, not even when he paid them. Children should be happy, enjoy their lives, right? What if you're not happy as a kid? What if you have PTSD and you have to wait 2 years to get mental healthcare?
Joost's father died because of cancer when he was 12 and his mother a year later. He was the one who found her after she passed because of a cardiac arrest. With this song he is taking the step to move on with his life. That's the meaning of the fire at the end of the song. Joost shares his fathers wisdom: people invented borders/ boundaries, so you can invent your own world. Father Klein worked as a volunteer with refugees when he was alive.
So the song sounds happy but tells us about the pain of grieving and is a letter to his parents. Yet Europapa also contains a hopeful message of Europe being a place of freedom and diversity.
