    Chinese new year atmosphere is awesome in this market. Lots of festive decorations 💜👍🏼

      Old towns in Singapore have all the festive atmosphere. I will be featuring a few more. The new towns are seriously lacking the neighbourliness because the town planners stop building neighbourhood shops in favour of malls and chain shops (7-eleven etc) and chain eateries.

    Hi Singapore City Walks, this is a nice and fantastic video. The decorations are so nice and I went there on 13 Jan evening. Keep up your hard work, Chee Meng.

    We remember Kovan as probably being next to Serangoon station, but your video footage was shooting the charms of Kovan at a good time!
    This friendly food centre, as can be seen from the video footage, has an acquired taste for the local residents, and we thought it was naturally popular.👌😊
    Kovan captures a state of certainty in your video footage, where Heartland Mall and Neighbourhood shops, including emerging residential areas, are seamlessly integrated into people’s daily lives as a community-based hub.☝️✨
    We also experienced a real feeling!

      You are right in describing town centres of older towns as community-based hubs. Where there are lots of neighbourhood shops and people know each other. Newer towns like Sengkang, where I stay have very few neighbourhood shops and they are clustered around LRT stations. The MRT station would have a big Mall. There are no shops near where we live. Gone are the kampong spirit and neighbourliness. Our town planners need to wake up.
      In my upcoming CNY videos, I will be featuring other old town centres. You will see older folks (in old towns) but happy folks.

    Wow so hardworking, busy visiting a few heartlands 👍 … hmm all in a day? These locations fairly near to each other 😊

      Visited Hougang on the 10th and Kovan on the 11th. Both these are near to each other and near to my home in Sengkang.

    The vibe around New Year's is amazing. Everybody is happy and getting ready and getting ready to celebrate. There is a lot of hope for the year of the Dragon

      There's a lot of hope for the new year, cos it's the dragon year which sounds great. People a lot more willing to part with their money. I will try my luck with lotteries. I might be lucky this year.

    I grew up in the 1960s and 70s when hawker foods were all authentic and their ingredients home-made. The loh-mee stall A tasted different from stall B at the same wet-market cum hawker centre. And both were nice. I dunno if anyone remember the black chai tao kueh which were in small cuboids fried till their skin crispy and a little chow tar because the hawker didn't use her spatula to tok tok tok until they're messy. You could pick them with a toothpick one piece at a time. I lived during the era when black chai tow kueh could be bought at 5 -cents served in an army leaf folded into a broad, open cone.

      I grew up in the 1960s and 1970s too. You are probably older than me as there's no army (CB) leaf folded into broad cone during my time. The chow tar carrot cake was available at Pek Kio Market when I lived there. I will be featuring more old town centres in my upcoming CNY videos.

    The climate in Singapore looks fine and cool in the blog but when you're there it's just hot and humid. Beautiful place though.❤❤❤

    You went there in the morning? when I went there those small kiosk at the old bus terminal were close during the evening...lokks like I got to wakeup early to visit there😅

    • @SingaporeCityWalks
      @SingaporeCityWalks  ปีที่แล้ว

      I went at 10am. Kiosks were open but they play old Mandarin music. Need to replace the music. I bought fish at the market. Prices are very cheap probably due to competition. Big prawns were sold at $12 per kg. Super cheap.

      @@SingaporeCityWalks Yes, troublesome when there is copyright music playing loudly...great to know you got cheap fish there.

    nice. but no music is helpful.

    • @SingaporeCityWalks
      @SingaporeCityWalks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your feedback. I need a music for the intro to replace the random sounds and also music to cover the copyrighted music. During Chinese New Year, some shops are blaring out music which I need to replace. Otherwise there's no point in making videos. Even buskers singing cover songs with their guitars are considered performing with copyrighted tunes. I will make it a point to keep as much ambient sounds as possible.
