The Caspian Sea in Central Asia is, by far, the largest lake worldwide with 386,000 square kilometers. Lake Superior on the border between Canada and the United States, the world's second largest lake, is, by comparison, 82,000 square kilometers.

I visited Superior, Wisconsin once, which lies on the northeastern shore of Lake Superior. I stuck my bare foot in the water and immediately yanked it out as the water was freezing cold. My toes looked blue and my foot had only been in the water a few moments. Cold, cold lake. Very deep with huge Muskie fish! StocktonRob
I grew up in Sault Ste Marie Ontario. Superior is extremely clean and yes quite cold. Many beaches are very shallow and tolerable for swimming. You can literally walk out until you barely see the beach. Lots of sandbars and drop offs, but all of a sudden you could find yourself in trouble with current and undertow close to the shipping lanes. I don't believe that it has the largest surface area of the Great Lakes but is the deepest and has the most volume of water. I could be mistaken.
First the narrator says that Lake Superior is the largest lake of the Great Lakes and then says it's the third largest freshwater lake in the world after Lake Victoria and Lake Huron. In reality, Lake Superior at 82,100 square km is the largest Freshwater lake in the world with Victoria being second at 59,947 square km and Huron slightly smaller at 59,590 square km. Since lake Huron and lake Michigan are at the same level with just a strait connecting the two, Huron Michigan are really just two arms of the same lake, this is technically the largest lake in the world being 117,000 square km.
Actually, a tragic history with copper. A huge strip of the eastern side of the Keweenaw Peninsula is covered with mining waste. It's visible via satellite. Was dumped into Lake Superior for decades and storms gradually spread it down the beach. Looks like a moonscape, heartbreaking.
lake victoria in africa? the whole continent or africa the country? why do they keep calling africa a country? say south africa, lake victoria is in south africa.
Lake superior is the largest freshwater lake in the world by surface area. Larger than Huron and Victoria
Not Lake Baikal

@@brimac58 no, surface area and volume are different.
Superior is larger than Lake Victoria
Youre wrong caspian sea in asia is largest lake in the world
Lake Superior has the largest surface area of any freshwater lake, but Lake Baikal in Russia has a larger water volume.

I used to cure my hangovers that way. lol Take a dip and gone every single time!
The same thing happened to me and my wife one July when we were on vacation that's the coldest water I've ever felt in a lake.
Was on the north shore in August and the water is still freezing lol

I knew that wasn’t in the Midwest. Thanks for pointing that out.
Thank-you, and I'll take your word for what the photo is? I wouldn't know but it's not Michigan UP or otherwise, IMO.

Lake Huron is shared by Michigan and Ontario , Canada .
This lake is terrifying 😮
Huron and Michigan are technically one lake, connected with the same sea level.
Is it commercially fished ?
Yes my brother was part of an outfit
Yes
Copper played a huge role in Superior's history too.

You need to learn before you teach.
Yeah had to turn it off after the first “fact”
Gitchigumi is too formidable after say October 1. Too windy and too cold. The fish take it rather well. Just go deep.
What is it supposed to be superior to ?
All of the other lakes! 😂
Up above or up-most. Superior to the lower Michigan land mass.
Not sure where Hudson bay area in Canada compared with superior. Certainly not well civilized.
@@valnpaulvanorden Hudson Bay is not a lake but a salt water bay
