I remember back in 1997 everyone including myself playing on their Gameboy and Gameboy pockets in the last class of the day which was a study hall. Even the Spice Girls was softly playing in the background as students would play their CD's on it as long as it was at a decent volume. Playing Super Mario Land 2 and one of the girls in my class playing "Wannabe" was the beginning of 1997 in a nutshell lol Great study hall too since the teacher was really lax and nobody got on each others nerves, especially those who were actually doing homework. They found the music in the background good ambience. ...I miss 1997
Wow this channel is underrated. When I went to click the subscribe button I was shocked by how few subscribers you have regardless of the great quality!
Thanks for saying to your viewers to purchase directly from krikzz because not a lot of youtubers do that, most of them advertise for stone age gamers such as gamester81 and that is not cool because krikzz is the creator of this wonderful product therefore krikzz deserves full credit.
That's exactly how I feel. StoneAgeGamer is probably paying Gamester81, or hooking him up with free Everdrives. Krikzz gives me Everdrives to review now, but I've been telling people to buy from him long before I was getting review units.
+Classic Gaming Quarterly sorry but stone age gamer has the best version for collectors as they make great cases/manual/better overall looking package. Both are good places to buy from but personally I own every everdrive released except the turbo everdrive and they are all the deluxe StoneAgeGamer.com/ versions and will continue to purchase from them as I want the best looking package possible for my collection. If you care about a complete package stone age gamer if you don't care about esthetics for a collection thdn go krikzz.com/ but as I said before both are good places. There are people who buy from krikzz and resell that aren't affiliated with kriizz and then there are official resellers listed on krikzz.com which stoneaagegamer is one of them, they help Igor's(krikzz) business grow in North America so there is no reason to talk down about SAG. Krikzz started using reproduction shells vs before he used original Nintendo/Sega game shells that were scratched up at times due to age, so before he switched I really couldn't recommend buying from krikzz for collectors but the new reproduction shells help so much now. All my Stone Age Gamer everdrives are original Nintendo/Sega carts painted looking new and unique but I believe they switched to reproduction shells also which they still paint, they switched because its bad to destroy gaming history and there were no reproduction shells available in 2014 when I started buying them, but knowing all my everdrive carts are real Nintendo/Sega game shells repainted looking new and unique was a big reason I went with SAG as a gaming collector.
Costa Apostolou That's your deal. I personally think that StoneAgeGamer charges too much of a premium for what they add to the package, and I don't see Everdrives as collectables. I am also not part of the whole "collector" scene. You do what you want to do, but I am going to keep recommending that people just buy them from Krikzz.
+Classic Gaming Quarterly everdrive 64 v3 krikzz just the cart with shell 175$ atmstone age game 169$ - everdrive gb krikzz 86$ stone age gamer 87$ 1$ more expensive butmfaster shipping as its in usa - mega everdrive krikzz 166$ stone age gamer 144$ so no krikkz isnt cheaper as the other carts are also cheaper. SAG is an official retailer krikzz is making money of each one sold... siunds like you have a bias also for getting thr free cart as its not the cheapest place....
Thank you for this video! I was hoping Everdrive released a Game Boy SD-flash cart! So many quality gems for GB/GBC. Although I only own a Game Boy pocket, good enough!
I only have 2 problems with the EDGB. 1: No RTC. It's mostly a problem that effects Pokémon G&S, but hey, the ED64V3 has it, and it would be nice to have Pokémon G&S play without hacks. 2: Swap A and B for the menus. This should be pretty easy, and I have no idea why B would be for selecting something. It's the complete opposite from everything games have taught us. 2.5. More of an idea for a feature. It would be nice if you could load game genie codes via txt files so you don't have to enter them manually. Other than that. It's an amazing device. And there really isn't any competition atm. I once had a flashcart called... it was something with 64M. It was... Ok... It had VERY little memory and you had to switch banks too. There wasn't any SD cards, just a cable, so it was very clumsy to use. The Everdrive however is VERY easy and user friendly. Krikzz must be some kind of one army wizard. I can't believe how he's been able to push out so many fantastic flash carts in such a short timespan, and setting the standard while at it. Nice and thorough review too. Glad you demonstrated it on a SGB and not the GB Player. The only incompatability issiue I've had with the EDGB so far was when I tried Space Invaders and wanted to play the 16-bit version, which is on the GB cartridge. It gave me one of those BS region lock text that prevented me from playing. But I guess that's beyond the EDGBs power as it has to do with the game and console. It's just a shame, since there isn't a PAL version of that particular game, so I can't test it out. All the other SGB enhanced games I tried out worked flawlessly tho.
Surely an interesting piece of equipment, but I'll stick to original carts for now. Most of the time, I can get GB carts on local flea markets for the price equivalent between a choc bar and a cup of coffee. I can see the advantage of this one for travelling, though.
+Classic Gaming Quarterly thanks for the videos! I really meant it as a compliment. I've seen some of your videos multiple times, they are made very well.
Oh don't worry, I didn't take it as a complaint or anything. Was just agreeing that I wish the content could appear more frequently. Thanks for supporting the channel!
+Classic Gaming Quarterly no problem, thanks for the great videos! Now that I'm remembering when I was researching the Everdrive line of products, I believe that's how I first found your channel. Your reviews on the Turbo and Mega Everdrives gave me a good idea of the operating system and the quality of Krikkz' products. I'm very happy with the N8 and the Mega, hopefully I can save up for the Super Everdrive soon. God bless all of those Japanese exclusive shooters.......
there's no select button on the GameCube controllers so using the GameBoy Player you will need to press Z to change game cart but take out the Everdrive then insert it back in just to change games.
I really want one of those, but I'm still holding out hoping that they'll make one with GBA support. Can you imagine GB, GB color and GBA in one cart? That would be ideal.
I'm planning on buying one of these. I'm curious what games you've found that this has problems with, or don't run at all. How does it handle Shantae, for example?
Satoshi Matrix I have personally not found a single game that didn't work, although I can't believe that it has 100% compatibility (there must be a couple of games that don't work correctly...) Since you specifically asked about it, I played through about the first 10 minutes of Shantae (finished the first boss battle) and didn't have any issues. Cool game; I'd never heard of it. As another commenter pointed out, the Everdrive GB does not have a real-time clock, meaning that it has issues with Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal, and Harvest Moon GB. Thanks for watching!
Classic Gaming Quarterly Yeah yeah, sounds good to me. As long as Shantae didn't dissolve into a glitchy mess. I'm glad to introduce you to Shantae, even if its though emulation. Shantae was the GBC's swansong, released in 2002, a good year after the GBA was already on the market. Yet that one little game is so damn charming and outstanding, taking the core concepts of NES games like Zelda II and Castlevania II and making an actual good game based on them. I urge you to keep at Shantae. You'll be exploring Zelda like dungeons and solving puzzles, gain access to magic dances that can transform Shantae into various animals that allow her to go places she normally can't (much like Metroid) and list to that awesome soundtrack the whole time. Plus, if you play it on a GBA, you'll get an enhanced pallet and some little extras.
Classic Gaming Quarterly I mean, as far as the Pokemon games, is that really a huge issue? I reckon the clock is only necessary for the day/night cycle, right? You can still complete the game, I assume. I'm curious. (Thanks for your vids, by the way!)
Grimages True, but Pokemon GSC without the real time clock is like A car without wheels. Yeah, you can find other ways to lug it around, but you're missing out on the best part of the experience. Gen 2 introduced so many concepts around the RTC that it really isn't even worth playing without it.
+Atari Game Lord I'm a little bit disappointed. I thought it would make me sound like The Chipmunks, but it just makes me sound like the guy from the Micro Machines commercials. After watching this video at 2x speed though, I recommend that people watch all of my videos this way. Much more efficient.
great video, very informative. also at the end, it was nice for you to mention going to the source. also you dont have to worry about it not being in stock aha. also why did you choose the gbc shell vs the gb shell for the everdrive housing?
Nice Video. I have a few of the Everdrives and I love the fact I do not have to drag all my games out etc.. Very Handy. I have to get one of these Gameboy everdrives looks cool. I have a Harmony 2600 Cart, TurboEverdrive and an atari 8 bit MYIDE2. This would be a nice addition. :) Thanks for sharing.
Can you save your progress in all games? Is it a standard emulator save state type setup? Does this thing have room for the entire library of games? Thanks and great video buddy. Also, i really dig the controller you found.
It does not support save states. The games work as they normally would if you were playing with the actual cart. So games that provide a save option will still work, as the cart will create a save file and store it on the microSD card. Yes, you can put every Game Boy game ever released on it. It uses a microSD card, so the only limitation is the size of the card, but even the smallest card that you can readily buy is massive overkill in terms of storage space. Thanks for watching!
gameboy color gameboy advance and gameboy advance sp have a soft reset. you have to press a, b, select, start all at once. once pressed all together, it will soft reset the system.
thanks you made me buy this thing.. i just got it in my mail. where did you get all those rom hacks homebrew stuff ? i allready have all the gb gbc stuff. ofc only the ones i own :)
+Classic Gaming Quarterly hey thanks man ! yeah i just got resident evil (beta) running on my gbc man what an amazing device!! do you got any golden tips? for hacks and beta's etc ?
2 questions: 1. does it have RTC support 2. can you safe your game for example when you are playing Pokemon and if yes can you do it even with multiple stand stores? nice video tho :) Like!
1. No, it does not have a real-time clock. 2. You can save your game exactly as you would with a "real" cartridge. So whatever save options a Pokemon game has will be exactly the same when using the Everdrive GB. Thanks for the questions!
No problem. Thanks for answering my questions! The proble is that I am just searching a random flashcard with RTC I don't need all the features of this one. The thing is that I am just playing Pokémon on my Gameboy and I own all the GBC Pokémon games for it. But I also want to play fanmade Pokémon games and the thing is that some are based on the gold edition that has a RTC :/ The "Micro SD Cartridge for Game Boy + Color V2" would be perfect for that but it also has no RTC support. But it is nice that I have it found at first because I didn't know what RTC support is. So if I bought the everdrive flashcard I would be disappointed cause there is no information about RTC.
I know this might sound weird, but I was wondering what kind of TV you have there. Looks like it's a Sony brand maybe? I'm actually in the market to get one somewhat like that for playing retro games. Any info would be greatly appreciated! I enjoy your videos, keep making great content!
That's a little Sony PVM-1341 broadcast monitor. That is primarily for playing games in RGB. Unless you are planning on doing that, I would suggest finding a smaller tube TV that accepts RF, composite, and s-video. Bonus if it accepts component for playing PS2 and Xbox. I still see very nice tube TVs for sale at thrift stores and yard sales all the time.
Classic Gaming Quarterly Awesome, thanks dude!! Now I know about RGB Scart, but I'm sure you mean RGB for like computer monitors, right? If that's the case is there like a composite to RGB adapter or something like that? Or what do you use on your retro consoles for playing on that specific tv?
This uses the same RGB signal as a SCART cable. You just have to use an adapter to go from SCART to the BNC connections that this monitor uses. Most Sony PVMs use BNC connectors. It is only the older models that don't. These PVMS are the best option that we Americans have for playing games in RGB if we want to stick with CRTs instead of transcoding the signal for use on HDTVs.
Any idea if there's a tutorial on how to download the GB roms into the Everdrive GB cartridge? I have plans to get one for myself and I wanna know how it's done.
aha, very late, but it only works with the game boy pocket for a few minutes before it wont write games, a solution is to mod it to run in parallel and use rechargeable 3.7v triple a's
I bought a couple of years ago a Mega Everdrive from Krikzz. I think it's great although it took me ages to figure out how to activate the Game Genie codes after you enter them. So does this not work with the Super Gameboy for GBC games?
It works with the Super Gameboy, and will work with any game that would normally be compatible with it. So it should work with the games that are compatible with both the Game Boy and Game Boy Color (black cartridge games) but not the Game Boy Color-only games (translucent shells).
Does the rounded top gbc everdrives work on 89 gameboy? Or does it not work just like a regular gbc cart on the 89 gameboy? I want a gb/gbc cart that I can play on the original up the the Gba SP.. y'all give me some good choices before I go research.
Is this compatible with Retroarch? I know retroarch uses .srm save files . Will I be able to change the extension so I could so I could play back and forth between PC and my GB?
Hey Randy. I get my Everdrives from shop.krikzz.com. Assuming that you're in the US or Canada, it usually takes about 2-3 weeks to receive them, because they are shipping from Europe. If you want to get it faster, in the US/Canada you can try StoneAgeGamer, or if in the UK try RetroTowers.
+Classic Gaming Quarterly ok thanks for replying back I'm thanking about geting one butt want to know the best place to buy one have you hear of any of them stores not shipping them out to anyone in the past
Well, he played Super Mario Land for the Game Boy for years and you wondering fell Nostalgia? And the word from Bette Davis: "Old age is no place for sissies"
voltare2amstereo Are you asking if pressing those 4 buttons will reset your Game Boy to the Everdrive menu? If so, that is not happening on my unit. But perhaps it was part of a firmware update. If that's not what you're asking, can you be more specific? Thanks!
voltare2amstereo Like I said, it may be possible with a firmware upgrade (I honestly don't know) but I tried it on mine and it doesn't. I also checked the options menu to see if there was a setting that I could turn on that would allow me to reset the Game Boy to the menu system (which you can do with some of the other Everdrives) but there wasn't one.
you would need to format it so that it thinks it's a 32 card and then it'll work, but you could still put 128gb of data on it in theory anyway, I don't know too much about overdrive but this method works for most things
hey guys I hate to bother you butt I got one of them everdrives and I can't seem to get the game genie codes to work anyone know how to get them to work
Classic Gaming Quarterly Actually ive read that they arent legit chinese bootlegs but use parts from toshiba etc. and even harvest parts from REAL everdrive gb-s

quetzalcueyat that just resets the current game you are playing, it won't boot back to the everdrive menu which is what he was talking about.
Works with original Gameboy as well
now hes playing with power... god i feel old.....
You and me both, my friend. I got my Game Boy for Christmas almost 27 years ago...
Lol I got my first gameboy for Xmas also mine was a gameboy pocket clear model and that was like 20+ years ago.... idk..... lmao

does it keep the savefiles or do u have to change the cartridge battery after awhile? awesome review btw :)

+Classic Gaming Quarterly hey thanks man ! yeah i just got resident evil (beta) running on my gbc man what an amazing device!! do you got any golden tips? for hacks and beta's etc ?
Excellent video and breakdown !
I might buy one of these if there was any information out there about how you put the games on the drive
So you prefer the game running slower? Get a SGB2, it fixes the timing issue.
2 questions:
1. does it have RTC support
2. can you safe your game for example when you are playing Pokemon and if yes can you do it even with multiple stand stores?

Have you ever considered trying to put a snes rom on the everdrive and playing it through the super gameboy?
aha, very late, but it only works with the game boy pocket for a few minutes before it wont write games, a solution is to mod it to run in parallel and use rechargeable 3.7v triple a's
is that a crt or broadcast monitor?
Both.
Classic Gaming Quarterly Right that's what I asking. So Wario Land 3 won't work on it as it's a GBC game.
Right. It will work with this Everdrive, but only if you put it into a GBC or GBA (or compatible device).
Classic Gaming Quarterly Cool, thanks.
B is select and A is back? C'mon...
Does the rounded top gbc everdrives work on 89 gameboy? Or does it not work just like a regular gbc cart on the 89 gameboy? I want a gb/gbc cart that I can play on the original up the the Gba SP.. y'all give me some good choices before I go research.
Adapter Ception
Is this compatible with Retroarch? I know retroarch uses .srm save files . Will I be able to change the extension so I could so I could play back and forth between PC and my GB?
That's the way you play gbc games on Super Nintendo
Hi Justin; that's correct. Thanks for watching!
Is the Game Boy Everdrive region locked?
No, Game Boy is a region-free system.
awesome, thanks
Is there one for GBA?
Yes it was just released. I am waiting for my review unit to arrive in the mail.
is this place your talking about to buy the everdrive from are they ok to buy from? and how fast do they ship?
+Classic Gaming Quarterly ok thanks for replying back I'm thanking about geting one butt want to know the best place to buy one have you hear of any of them stores not shipping them out to anyone in the past
randy Buell The three places that I listed are all legit. I can't speak for any others.
+Classic Gaming Quarterly ok thanks man I look them up
I can't find the EDGB system file to download on the micro sd
Could you Sind me the link to it ? Thanks
krikzz.com/pub/support/everdrive-gb/OS/v4/
Classic Gaming Quarterly thank you 😊
You got it, bud. So just create the "EDGB" folder on the SD card, and pop that file into it.
hissss ima get this bootleg hisssss
dose this work with the gamecube gameboy player?
+erix rodriguez th-cam.com/video/k4fqWzcc8jM/w-d-xo.html&t=27s
What about the Gameboy thing that slotted into an N64 controller?
Sorry, I'm not sure what you're talking about.
that comes w/ pkmn stadium 1
+Classic Gaming Quarterly I believe his talking about transfer Pak that was mainly used for Pokemon games on 64
Will Pokémon Crystal work on it?
+Sword of Kings It does but you have to patch it.
Well, he played Super Mario Land for the Game Boy for years and you wondering fell Nostalgia?
And the word from Bette Davis: "Old age is no place for sissies"
is there an ever drive for SNES?
Yes
is save possible? for example can I save in pokemon yellow?
+TheTelefaks Yes. It saves just as a normal cartridge would.
+Classic Gaming Quarterly good to hear :) thanks for amazingly fast answer
+TheTelefaks No problem!
ab start select (reset) ?
voltare2amstereo Are you asking if pressing those 4 buttons will reset your Game Boy to the Everdrive menu? If so, that is not happening on my unit. But perhaps it was part of a firmware update. If that's not what you're asking, can you be more specific? Thanks!
yeah, thats what im asking,
on a regular gameboy it resets the game, i don't know if this would work to bring the everdrive back tho,
voltare2amstereo Like I said, it may be possible with a firmware upgrade (I honestly don't know) but I tried it on mine and it doesn't. I also checked the options menu to see if there was a setting that I could turn on that would allow me to reset the Game Boy to the menu system (which you can do with some of the other Everdrives) but there wasn't one.
I’m here in 2020!
Can I get roms for it from a Macbook?
+colin browning You can use any computer that has an SD card reader. Newer Macbooks have SD card readers built-in.
I've been told that newer macbooks will create hidden folders inside the sd card and that will make it unable to play games on the everdrive
That's not true. OSX puts a few extra files on the SD card, but they don't have any negative effects. And you can actually delete them.
Thanks for the help. I got one today and it works great!
Why so expensive. 😭
what if I put 128 GB micro sd ??? is support only 32 and my one wont work or what?
It only supports up to a 32GB card. I have no idea what would happen if you put something larger in.
you would need to format it so that it thinks it's a 32 card and then it'll work, but you could still put 128gb of data on it
in theory anyway, I don't know too much about overdrive but this method works for most things
Why would you insert an expensive 128GB card anyway?: You'd fit the entire GB and GBC library on 8GB or less, and those cards are cheap
This is true Sheepy007
I cant play kirbys tilt and tumble
Derp Herp Well, with all of the money that the Everdrive would be saving you, you could just buy Kirby's Tilt & Tumble!
Classic Gaming Quarterly...Youve got a point there bud.
hey guys I hate to bother you butt I got one of them everdrives and I can't seem to get the game genie codes to work anyone know how to get them to work
Damn, he's really bad at Tetris
you can't play gba games?
No. He makes an Everdrive for GBAs, though.
sorry but this is too expensive so i will buy a jack diy gb
Imre Saks That is a bootleg version of the Everdrive GB. Good luck with that.
Classic Gaming Quarterly Actually ive read that they arent legit chinese bootlegs but use parts from toshiba etc. and even harvest parts from REAL everdrive gb-s
Imre Saks That's ridiculous.
No the factory where the PCBs are made they sneak out some for the jack diy gb
It's still theft of Krikzz' intellectual property, and possibly theft from the factory as well.
