Looks like the LEDs are shedding their phosphor and turning blue.. "It wasn't like that when I brought it in!" I'm retiring this year after 50 years in the trade and won't miss this one bit.
Haha oh my god yeah I don't doubt that one bit. Something I learned to stop doing is cleaning the screens. In my mind, I thought I was doing people a favor by cleaning the dirty screens. Then I realized that when you do that, you actually make the scratches and dings more visible because before, they were hidden by dirt, dust, grease, or whatever was on the screen. Now that the rest of the screen is perfectly clean, they pop and are way more visible. I have gotten some very upset customers that way. I have not cleaned a customer's screen ever since.
@@NicksTVRepair Here's a trick I have after having tried many different solutions - on some scratches, Rain-X does a pretty good job of mitigating the appearance as long as the scratch doesn't get down to the glass layer. I use a tooth pick and laboriously ladle the RainX into the scratch, then buff out when it dries.
Yes the LEDs are on their way out and require replacement, but that's not what the video was about, so I didn't mention it here. As for "it does not have LED strips" what do you mean? $44 on shopjimmy www.shopjimmy.com/vizio-svg600a26-replacement-led-backlight-strips-10-e60u-d3/
It looks like the TV need a LED replacements as well. The screen is very bluish ... From 2016, i don't understand who will spend money to repair a TV that is 9 years old?
Depends.. The newer the TV the more cheaply it's built and the more shortcuts there are. I stopped taking most Samsungs in built in the last few years because of bad displays causing cycling. I found some work-arounds for some of them but they're just garbage. With a reflow/reball and new LEDs, this TV will run for ten more years.
Yes you are correct the LEDs do indeed need to be replaced. I didn't want to mention it in the video, as I wanted to keep it focused on the mainboard repair.
Yup @ohger1 that is indeed correct. It's a nice set, as long as we get new LEDs this set will run for another 10 years. I didn't mention it in the video but I added high end MX-4 thermal paste, + the thermal pad below the board which is not there by default which should help with extending the life of the set. Given that we have never seen the power supply, T-con or panel failure, there is almost a 0 chance of anything else going out with this set now that we have fixed the mainboard and are going to replace the LEDs. Those are honestly the next 2 things to go out which again probably will take longer to fail than a new TV will.
Great job and nice video🌹
