Charles Campbell Hi Chuck - thank you so much for your comment and sharing your story. I'm so glad that the tutorials are helpful, even for pros like yourself! :) Yes, it takes a while to crank out each one, but am always working on new stuff - appreciate the encouragement!
Great video, but if you're planning to do this, here's a pro tip; when you duplicate an object, so do the animations. Therefore you only have to do is make One set of cards ( the yellow and blue), and then duplicate that card a couple of times, then change the text. I hope this helped anyone.
Oh really i did the same thing , i made blank cards with no text and when i finished the 24 triggers i duplicated the slide as a whole so i can use it easily when i need .
I can't thank you enough for posting this video. I've been trying to put together a game for online learning, knew it could be done but couldn't figure out how. It literally took me two weeks to find a tutorial that actually helped.

I used this to create a memory/Match game as virtual team builder. By splitting the board vertically, right side each box was a name of a person on the team, left side had the unique match question (such as career you wanted or place you would want to visit or something you consistently do); then also used a power point Icon (i prefer the animal) and place it between the top and bottom "flash card" so as the top flips over or back it covers the icon...then you match the icons as a game. Great Team builder and fun to use. Thanks TONS for the Tips and keep them coming.
I JUST MADE IT!! Thank you ! TIP: It's much faster if you make one card (with all animations and without text) and copy it. After that you just have to write the text in every card.
Thank you for watching!! Glad it was useful :). By the way if you just copy and paste the pairs it also works to keep the animations (vs redoing each time)!
Super!A good thing about power point is that we can create anything out of scratch and we sharpen our minds too.It needs patience but the result is great!Thank you for the tutorial! :)To add more suspense for the students, we can also add another pack of 12 cards on top of them all , -with numbers ( from 1 to 12) or pictures -so that the students can choose a number in random and put an exit fade trigger so that a blue card will be revealed :) Don't forget to add an exit fade trigger for each card separately of course :)
Thanks, Olga - you are so creative, and that's a great suggestion! Suspense definitely adds even more spice. You're absolutely right, too - that PPT provides pretty much endless possibilities for creation (that's what I love about it!).
I had to rewind so many times to get this, made mistakes, this one needed a written doc to go along with to see where mistakes were made. But I got through it and I did it. Thank you!
Lia , you're really so creative please keep going on i 'm always waitting for your new tutorials , powerpoint with you is so interesting i adored powerpoint because of you , I became a new teacher with fantastic engaging learning environment . God bless you .
Reham Sarhan Thanks, Reham! You are really an amazing subscriber - thank you for watching and really trying to apply all of these techniques. Your students are very fortunate to have a teacher like you! I wish I had more of those when I was in school! :)
Thank you! Now I have a new idea of presenting reports in class. You have many videos and this one is the first that I have watched and I've enjoyed it!
Thank you so much! I found your swivel video and I used those settings in place of your animation here. Works like a charm! Thank you for taking the time to make these videos!
A huge thank you for your video. I used it to make a Halloween memory game for my 7 year old French pupils. I think they'll love it. All I needed was for confetti to come down when I had found all the pairs🎉🎃😍
This is great! It was so much simpler to follow your tutorial than to figure all of this out on my own. Thanks for posting! My one suggestion would be to demonstrate at the beginning of the video what the effect will look like; I had to scrub through a lot of the video to make sure this was going to do what I wanted it to before I went back and watched the whole thing. Thanks again!
Ok thanks for the feedback and the comment! I do try to do that in most videos, but you’re right - it was buried a bit in this one. Also, after publishing the video I realized you can just make one card and copy it multiple times vs make each one. Hope that helps!
P-spice I’m so rarely impressed with instructional videos to the point of leaving a comment. But you really do an excellent job. Not only have I gleaned terrific ideas and shortcuts, but your speaking style and visual meshes with the presentation very well. Since my slides are used for online instruction to type A personalities, I’d always thought excitement was key. What I learned was it depends on the time I’d day, day of week, market action, etc, Sometimes I’ll make two version AM & PM; with different music in background and either a softer vocal tone or a more energetic tone. Even though you don’t have a video on this specific topic it was from watching your vids that caused me to a/b test the idea. Soooo..... sometimes we learn things from people they hadn’t meant to teach but are pearls nonetheless. Kudo’s girl. Now imma make my class a game.... all cos of p-spice. Enjoy your day.
It would be best if Lea posts a screen capture after each operation, saying, "Your slide should now look like this", pointing out the numbers next to each card and what they mean, as well as what the lightning bolt means (Yes, I do know the bolt means that a trigger[s] has been set...).
Hi! I'm a fan of your works and always wait for your videos because i also love making interactive powerpoints. I think it will be alot easier, when you're going to use many cards, IF you apply the trigger to a pair of cards first and then duplicate these cards so the trigger itself is already set on the following duplicates. It saves you a lot of time. That's what i do when i make some games. Just something i could share! :)
Excellent - thanks so much, Sumaiya! Your students are very fortunate to have a teacher like you who is always looking to spice up the lessons. Wish all teachers were like that!
Sometimes Lea says to select the cards again, but they're already selected. If I just hit "Add Animation" from there will this screw things up? Or should I deselect, then select again before adding animation? I've probably attempted this tut around, oh, ten times now, and it hasn't come out right yet. But it's very important that I nail this. Also, at times she will ask that the trigger be set to "on click", and yet in the start panel it will be set to "after previous". Should I change that to "on click" as well? She never called attention to this discrepancy, and what to do.
I really enjoyed this tutorial. The instructions are very easy to follow. I would like to create another game and would very much appreciate your help. The game needs 4 slides.... slide #1 with 1-12 number boxes; slide #2 the questions; slide #3and either or choice (ex. red or green); slide #4 the correct answer. I know this may be a bit much to apply the triggers, but if you would please let me know how to do this or if it is even possible, better yet a tutorial would be nice. I would greatly appreciate it.
+PowerPoint Spice thank you for a great tutorial Spice :) amazing as always :) some of the shortcuts were new to me and seem to be very useful, thank you :)
One Skill Awesome - glad you found the shortcuts useful too! I was debating whether to show the shortcuts as part of the video, so it's great that they were useful to you! Thanks for the comment, One Skill!
Thank you for the nice video. Is there any way I can apply this to 3 cards by any chance? one for score, another for questions, and the other for answer. I’d be really appreciative.
Hi. Nice video. Let's say I have created my game in PowerPoint, Is it possible to have this played on a website? What format should be saved off PowerPoint and what format should be uploaded? Looking forward to your response. Thanks
Thank you so much for this tutorial! It was easy to follow and you were very exact in your instructions. May I ask how come we have to set the entrance and exit animations twice? (Once before the two slides are combined, and once after?) What does combining them the first time do, if we still have to do it again later? Can that step be skipped so the animations are only set once?
PowerPoint Spice Just downloaded your "interactive game presentation" and it's actually really cool. I realized that you only have to make the squares with the animation and trigger once. Then you copy and paste it as many times you want and the trigger will still work in all those copies. So that saves too much time. (I explained it as best Icould)
Hello! Great video, I plan on using this! Only one thing I need to know. Is there a way to make these cards movable within the space of screen? Say, I group the 2 sides as an object which them becomes draggable without flipping. I ask this as that would make the cards usable for a complete card game!
Hi Daya - unfortunately you can't really do draggable stuff in PowerPoint without using VBA etc. You would need to use ARticulate products for more drag and drop effects. If you want to make a 2-sided object / card, however, you could create a 3D skinny card in Paint 3D (should be available on your computer - or at least through the Microsoft App store) and then import that into PowerPoint. This would then be truly 2-sided and flippable. Very interesting idea actually - I will keep that in mind for maybe a future tutorial.
Hi - I enjoyed the video and believe I will be able to use this with my students - so thank you! You said that one can create a memory game - do you have a way of enabling paired responses to be recognised (e.g. the cards no longer turn over)? Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video. I've been looking for something with clear, easy to follow instructions. I was excited to finish my first flash card deck! However, when I went to play it, I have four cards that are mislinked. They flip correctly but when you flip them back they are blank. As you continue through the deck, they appear when you flip other cards. Is there any way to remedy the situation without rebuilding the deck? Thanks!!
Thank you so much for the comment, Fayola - really glad it helped you out. This is a perfect technique for school projects - will definitely make you stand out as an awesome student!
Great video. I tried it as done and I must have done something wrong. When I go to present the blue flips to yellow but when I click on it again, the slide show ends. HELP!
Thanks, Ik Victor! Glad you liked it - you can take a look at my "tech genius" video to see how i make relatively interactive scoreboards with live text boxes. You can always hyperlink this slide with other slides where you play the game. th-cam.com/video/r_v3ygqDRas/w-d-xo.html
matvarnado Not yet, but on my to-do list is just general interactivity with mouseovers/hyperlinks/triggers. This was just the first one. Thanks for the comment, matvarnado!
PowerPoint Spice I'll be looking for it. In the meantime, I used hyperlinks to make my own quiz on on the PowerPoint shortcuts because I'm too old to not get confused when I was trying to do the triggers on each of the graphics for that many. It fit better with my concentration. The big problem with doing that is it's resources intensive whereas this tutorial makes it more compact. Again thanks for this good tutorial. The trigger method is highly adaptable for many I may plan to do in the future.
HI BIG THANK YOU FOR YOUR TUTORIAL. I ENJOYED IT VERY MUCH. I JUST HAVE A QUESTION - I WANT TO CREAT A MEMORY GAME AND WANT THE MATCHING CARDS WON'T FLIP AGAIN IS IT POSSIBLE?
I spent hours looking for the "Trigger" button. Then I found out that Powerpoint 2011 for MAC does not have triggers! This is me SCREAMING! great powerpoint.
Yeah Mac ppt is pretty limiting, unfortunately. But I believe existing triggers in a presentation should still work - try downloading the sample file and seeing if they work there - at least you'll hopefully have triggers in card form.
In the beginning of the instructions, you mention creating a grid as you showed in the “intro video.” Can you tell me where to find into your video please? Thank you.
You may want to disable "drag and drop" on your PC before attempting this project. If you happen to jostle one of the cards with the mouse, it will either malfunction when clicked in playback, or disappear entirely.
No mention of changing the start point at times, and yet after I've decided to compare this setting to what is seen on her interface in the vid, they are different.
Maybe this is asked before ... Based on your great tutorial, I made a flipcard-ppt to practice basic-equations (13 y.o. pupils). I want to share this (out of dropbox e.g.) so if they click a link they can start the game. But ... when I create a link to a presentation they can do 'nothing' :-( So, no animations at all. Tips?
@@powerpointspice The template works beautifully. I added pictures (for a memory game for little kids) and animated and sorted them with the rectangles, but it ends the show if you click on the picture rather than the rectangle. Any idea how to make either the picture or the rectangle flip the card back? Thank you!!
Does this work on picture in the bottom layer? I built first layer with text box and 2nd layer with picture for a children game. I followed the animation instruction to create all the sets of entrance and exit. After I finished and show it in presentation mode, the click doesn't show the picture. The click only show the text box, just collapse and stretch.
This is not easy at all. The main reason seems to be that it is just so detailed and tedious, and so easy to make a mistake! Then you have to go back, possibly begetting even more mistakes. I'm also getting the distinct impression that even though a mistake was made, the cards will behave and appear as if nothing is wrong. Just before dragging in 9:19, Start changed from "After Previous" to "On Click". I only caught this because of the mouse icon which suddenly appeared next to my triggers. I think that a host of problems started when I accidently dragged something down to far, causing the following slide to pop up, and I to pull up again the one I was working on. UPDATE: Damn. I had to hit redo twenty times and somehow undid some things I shouldn't have....had to X-out so I could start all over again.
I love your videos. I've been watching for several years now. I have a question: I am creating an e-learning video and want to make it interactive so that users can go forward, back and access help. I have the hyperlinks defined on the Master Slides, but can't see how to make the buttons work without losing my animations [if I save it as a PDF] or if I save it as an MP4, I lose the ability to use the navigation buttons. BTW I'm using a PC with Office 2019.
Hi there! For true interactivity and flexibility like that it is best to use the Articulate programs which were better designed for e-learning than ppt. If you export to a video in ppt, you lose all interaction possibilities. You can also save as a ppt show as well - that way it plays almost like a video.
I have PPT 2011 for Mac. I went through all of these steps only to find there is no "trigger" option in my custom animation window. Frustrating! Is there something I can do? Thanks for the tutorial!
Hi Maggie - thanks for watching the video! Yes I'm not a huge fan of ppt for Mac as there are many limitations such as this. However I believe triggers made on a pc should work if imported to Mac - so maybe try the download link in the description? Then you'll at least have the cards with the triggers done.
Great Tutorial. Is there a way to "copy and paste" images on the back cards without re-programming the triggers? I tried to paste a picture on a back card then grouping the picture with the back card. The animation does not work.
Hi ClemeRo11 - you would have to use a "picture fill" and add the image that way to the cards (make sure your image is the same aspect ratio as the cards) - if you mess with the groupings, the animations will disappear. Hope that helps!
appreciate your video I used this tutorial to create a memo game but I have a question How can I change the position of the card? they're is any possibility to do it because I want to use this game more times but people know where the cards match so I am looking for something I can click and the cards change position thanks
YOu can select both cards by clicking and dragging around them to select (or through the selection pane) and you just move them as you like. They can be anywhere on the slide and still work.
Thanks for the video ... I have followed ur instructions and is able to click once to reveal and click again to hide ... but not the second time. I thought I could do this (click to reveal & hide forever) ... is there a step i'm missing?
+Eventas Asia - Hi Eventas Asia - yes, it should work forever. Not sure why it's not working for you. Maybe you can download the sample and see what is different?
I have a question, I am able to create the flip effect successfully but whenever I go to create the flip back, my original effects disappear and are replaced with the new effects. How can I stop this from occurring?
Hello Powerpoint Spice, I have encountered a problem with my last card of my memory game template. When I flip the card over and attempt to flip it back, my slide show is showing all of my cards and advancing to the next slide. Do you know how I can fix this?
Hi vincent - sorry for the delay - check the trigger on that and make sure it points to the correct card. That's really the only explanation if all the cards work except that one.

@@powerpointspice Amazing! I did't even think that possible! Thank you :)
Thanks for sharing the template. It is extremely useful
Thanks!!
Very useful mate.
+Caio Uchôa Thank you, Caio!
So useful video! Thank you very much! :)
Thank you, Arianne!
Thank you so much for helping my school task!
HELP!
Hi Maria - strange! There are a variety of reasons for why that would happen. Here is a sample file you can compare against: bit.ly/Interactive-Cards
you is really incredible! I'm your fan.
BrEnO SiLvA™ Thanks, Breno! You are incredible for watching and commenting :) - appreciate it!
Very good, thanks.
Thanks, Joseph!
wow, great video. Do you have a video on the how to use hyperlinks to create very interactive scoreboards?
Thanks, Ik Victor! Glad you liked it - you can take a look at my "tech genius" video to see how i make relatively interactive scoreboards with live text boxes. You can always hyperlink this slide with other slides where you play the game. th-cam.com/video/r_v3ygqDRas/w-d-xo.html
PowerPoint Spice how can i make
a LINGO game in Powerpoint?
PowerPoint Spice But What i miss in the game is if i open both cards
than the cards must automatically
dissepear!
A very useful tutorial. I've been wondering if you have done any practical tutorials using hyperlinks.
matvarnado Not yet, but on my to-do list is just general interactivity with mouseovers/hyperlinks/triggers.
A good question that I was hoping to see an answer to, but it seems that questions aren't answered, only thank yous for positive feedback!
@@kjdaley6901 I tried formatting the back card with a picture instead of a color in fill. It seems to work.
Lifesaver! Thanks!
Thanks for watching, Deb! Glad you enjoyed, and thanks for the comment.
Thank you very much. It worked great!
+rmlds2000 Awesome, glad it did! Thanks for sharing, rmlds2000!
I love this video, thank you.
Thanks so much, Anita!!
loved the video and the creator too..😋
+Neeraj Agarwal thanks Neeraj - feel free to check out my latest videos - you may enjoy as well!
PowerPoint Spice Can you tell me
how i can make the
word guess game Lingo
in Powerpoint?
I spent hours looking for the "Trigger" button. Then I found out that Powerpoint 2011 for MAC does not have triggers! This is me SCREAMING! great powerpoint.
+mhyoung357 Ack! Yeah Mac PowerPoint often has more limited features, sadly! :/ Most of my other tutorials should work on Macs though.
Yeah Mac ppt is pretty limiting, unfortunately. But I believe existing triggers in a presentation should still work - try downloading the sample file and seeing if they work there - at least you'll hopefully have triggers in card form.
that is so helpful .......I finally did it
Fantastic, congratulations! :)

Glad you enjoyed, Fatma! Thanks for the comment.
In the beginning of the instructions, you mention creating a grid as you showed in the “intro video.” Can you tell me where to find into your video please? Thank you.
This is just the opening sequence - sane video!
Same
Thanks for your reply. Can you tell me how you got the 6“ / 12” ruler instead of the 4” / 8” horizontal ruler as a canvas to place your 3.1” objects?
You may want to disable "drag and drop" on your PC before attempting this project. If you happen to jostle one of the cards with the mouse, it will either malfunction when clicked in playback, or disappear entirely.
Followed everything but the end was tricky and then could get it to play unless I was in slide show.
Yes you need to be in slide show to make it work. Glad it worked at the end!
Tips?
Hi there! Thank you! Can I use pictures as well?
Yes! You can also do a picture fill on the cards if you make with shapes.
@@powerpointspice The template works beautifully. I added pictures (for a memory game for little kids) and animated and sorted them with the rectangles, but it ends the show if you click on the picture rather than the rectangle. Any idea how to make either the picture or the rectangle flip the card back? Thank you!!
Ahh...did not de-select the cards to re-select them this time. This gives me two lightning bolt symbols, just like in Lea's illustration. (10:40)
Does this work on picture in the bottom layer? I built first layer with text box and 2nd layer with picture for a children game. I followed the animation instruction to create all the sets of entrance and exit. After I finished and show it in presentation mode, the click doesn't show the picture. The click only show the text box, just collapse and stretch.
very very very very very vert very dificult game making but i like this video so much i subscribed your channel.
Great job thank you very much it is very useful
Thanks for the comment, Thanaa! Glad it was useful.
If I want to match words to pictures? Once I add cliparts into the box it doesn’t work anymore.
use 'format shape' on the box then 'fill' with the picture you want ;)
Exactly right!
Pick up and apply all format is NOT Ctrl-Shft-C then Ctrl-V. It should be Ctrl-Shft-C then Ctril-Shft-V. You have said it wrong in video at 5:03.
Thanks for the catch!
super :) I'll try to do it now
Thank you

Can you tell me how i can make the game in PowerPoint ?
i DID ALL THE STEPS ALREADY, BUT IT WONT FLIPPED OUT. THE LAST ANIMATION PART IS QUITE CONFUSING. PLEASE HELP ME OUT THANKS
I have a question, I am able to create the flip effect successfully but whenever I go to create the flip back, my original effects disappear and are replaced with the new effects. How can I stop this from occurring?
this happens to me too. the first set of triggers were gone when doing the next set. I only realized it when trying to do the slide show.
That's really the only explanation if all the cards work except that one.
this very helpful
+Jalen Hardy Thanks, Jalen - glad it was! Appreciate the comment.
