nickelodeon only wanted 1 season with 12 episodes so they had to force the story getting to a nice close, thats why they rushed a lot of moments.
after S1 nick wanted 1 more season of korra so they now have to make a whole new story with korra, so S2 will have the same feeling. after S2 nick wanted 2 more seasons so they had to make another season therefore the last 2 seasons are alot better story wise and the moments.

Not sure why you didn’t get it. Amon took away all the bending Korra had at the time, Fire, earth and water. But she didn’t have air bending yet so he couldn’t take it away. She then developed it the moment she needed it most. He could have taken that away too now that she had it, but he couldn’t get close enough. Super easy and obvious to understand, right? (None of that is spoilers, it’s just super obvious in the episode.)

Bloodbending would be a physical block while what Aang did was a spiritual thing. Amon couldn't block her airbending because that connection wasn't yet there to be blocked
To understand both her unlocking of air bending and accessing the avatar state you gotta go back to that conversation Aang had with the Guru about what blocks each chakra
In the teardrop scene Korra was gonna jump off of that cliff so a new and complete avatar could be born. Being the avatar is the biggest honor in the world for her and she was always Avatar first and herself second. Being willing to relinquish her life so that a new avatar could be born was her earthly attachment (which for Aang was Katara), so that's when she finally get to contact her past lives and enter the Avatar state.

Something to keep in mind for Korra as opposed to ATLA. Nickelodeon pulled a lot of BS in terms of Korra that rushed its development and messed up storylines. Originally, the creators were told that season 1 would be it for Korra. But then they saw how well it did and green lit a second season (then there was more interference from the studio from then on). In short, Nickelodeon (the studio) gave a lot more love to ATLA than to Korra and it shows when you compare the 2 shows. It’s unfortunate because Korra could’ve been a great show on ATLAs level but studio interference really sunk its potential. But with that said, the Korra creators did the best with what they had.

Just a bit of a Avatar: The Last Airbender reminder: one of the biggest advantages of the Avatar is the connection to the previous Avatars. Not just access to their wisdom and counsel (like Roku with Aang or even Aang sending flashback images to Korra) but also knowledge, which would include certain techniques.
In this case, Korra is at her lowest state - the girl who even as a toddler had the power of 3 elements, was always strong and proud and coddled and a prodigy, the freakin' Avatar, now having lost connection to those same 3 elements with not even the legend Katara able to heal her, a cripple who in her mind lost to Amon by losing the biggest piece of her identity by not even being a "half-baked Avatar" now. She inadvertently finally opens herself up to reaching out spiritually, now that the pride and self-assurance that held her back was completely gone, and she finally connects to her past lives fully...and specifically what Aang learned from the Lion Turtle.
Aang is now fully a part of Korra now, along with the other Avatars. So his knowledge of energybending is now with her when she taps into his knowledge - which is that little flash of the Avatar State, her connecting to the full Avatar spirit.

The delivery of that line makes you realize that there really weren’t any “good old days”. Their childhood was completely overshadowed by the abuse their father put them through, that molded them into deeply damaged adult men. How can they go back to the past, before all of that? Might not be possible. It’s a very cynical ending, and terribly dark, but I liked it.

So the airbending kora was blocking herself because it's her hardest element to come over, you have to be spiritual and chilled for airbending since most of them were monks and nomads. That clearly wasn't kora 😂 So in her struggle she blocked it so it couldn't get blocked by Armon because she already had. She unlocked it when she needed it the most.

Such a sad ending with both villains. Noatok is able to sense Tarrlok's movements with his bloodbending and does nothing to stop him. After having lost everything to the Avatar, only then does he think of starting anew with his brother. Tarrlok can never trust him (especially if his bending never comes back), and in that moment Noatak realizes he truly has lost it all.

The tear drop wasn’t exactly the way she called him. They focused on that shot (of the tear falling) to imply she was having suicidal thoughts. Throughout most of this season Korra had been a hot headed, overconfident , careless avatar that didn’t embrace the traits that bring out spiritual connection (the ones that Aang did in fact have) humility, discipline, patience. When she lost her bending of the 3 out of the 4 elements she felt like she had lost all that she was and as a result was “humbled”. It seems like the trauma almost helped her get the avatar state exactly because of how immense it was. It pushed her to understand what really matters, the responsibility of being the avatar and taught her humility. It’s a very common theme with this show, how we learn to use trauma to improve ourselves and become stronger.

Thing is....your power-levels dropping should not be traumatizing. Her power levels did not even matter in this season. Most fights she lost were political. The fact that for her, her entire being hinges on her power level, including her self-worth, ability to love and function, is bizarre, especially considering she's lived a sheltered life for 17 years. Somebody like that wouldn't feel the weight of responsibility yet like Aang did having to face the powered-up firelord at age 12. It comes across to me like Korra just expected to be the best bender of all time, and since she isn't anymore, she decides to be depressed. Then, when the power flows back in and she's the best again, everything's peachy-keen. She didn't grow or deal with any problems. Notice how she was only happy again when her powers were restored?

I'm not certain if anyone else has commented on this, but Avatar: Legend of Korra (LOK) started off with no guarantee of any other seasons. It was just going to be season 1. The original creators didn't want to add any filler episodes, and so they opted for tightening everything into a single season, more of as an ending to the original series, to basically show things that Avatar the Last Airbender (ATLA) didn't. Their design of the original series made it so they got 24 episodes, which was finally increased to 48 due to work effort, enthusiasm and a succinct, more streamlined story. So the discussion about how it would've been a good ending if it was only one season, was spot on. Because it was meant to be a one-season show.

Now you see why I've always said that so many of Korra's problems were the result of Nickelodeon's background fuckery. From the show almost never happening just because Korra is a girl to the budgetary constraints in some parts of the final season, and even some limitations on the show's ending scenes, it's a miracle that the show came out at all. • @BossAttack

Aman is an example of the difference between The Last Airbender and the often weakness of Korra as a series. Korra deals with far more adult themes than TLA, where the main villain is literally just an evil fire guy bent on world domination. Korra villains are far more complex and have understandable, often political motivations, for what they are doing. The weakness, as you see with Aman, is that the series isn't really equipped to engage these villains on the complex subjects they bring up. Korra's usual solution is to just beat them up physically and stop them. With Aman, I think most would agree that non-benders do face a certain level of inequality, nearly every leader in government is a bender. However, it's never addressed after he is beaten how to solve that issue. It's as if beating Aman somehow defeated all inequality in the city. And that is one of the main weaknesses with the series, complex villains that the series has trouble resolving their issues outside of physical combat.
Tarlok kills Aman and himself at the end because the series really can't accommodate for Aman sticking around without addressing the inequality issue.

    • @elkins4406
      @elkins4406 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Agreed. It's what makes the series so infinitely frustrating for me. They seem to *want* to deal with more complex social and political issues, but then they always cop out at the last minute and simplify everything down to a stupid punch-em-up. I find it weirdly infuriating, in a way that a plain old-fashioned simplistic punchy-punchy tale would not be.
It also leads to some *really* unfortunate political implications, and I'm never quite sure how intentional some of those are, which just leaves me with an ugh-y feeling overall.

My personnal explanation for how Amon can "take the bending away" from people with bloodbending, is that he does the same thing a chi blocker does, but instead of hiting you from outside, he uses your blood to hit your chi or chakra points from the inside, either doing permanent damage, or literally blocking the chi flow, like Aang was blocked from the avatar state during book 3.
I find it the most satisfatory explanation, and then Aang comes in clutch to use energy bending like he learned before, to reestablish the energy flow, allowing the person to bend again.
This can also explain why Korra couldn't airbend before, she had a chakra blocked or something like that preventing her to do it, just like Aang had several traumas and troubles blocking his chakraa when he first met Guru Pathik. So I think whatever Amon did to block her energy flow, it inadvertedly unblocked her airbending.
It's still a hard "plot armor" moment to explain, but I like to interpret it as Amon going like "let's flip all those switches off", but the "air switch" was already off, so he flipped it on instead. 😂 lol

    few of my observations:
    - Amon does another level of chi blocking. Like tai lee and the chi blockers do by ambushing the pressure points of the body, he does so w bloodbending.
    -Amon did notice tarrlok's hand
    - Korra was about to let the avatar cycle continue and off herself.
    - Amon could not take korra's airbending, because she never learned it before that first punch.

I would recommend thinking about the Guru episode with chakras and the body. Ty Lee's Chiblocking is also something that hints at the mechanics of bending. The Avatar's bending or way of connecting to the elements is no different than the other benders, there's only profound awareness due to reincarnation and the Avatar Spirit. The body channels energy from the universe and extends that into the element by way of the limbs and moving parts. When Ty Lee shuts down bending, she hits a pressure point in a way that creates a knot in the muscle. People can't even move their limbs in most cases, but Katara could barely move water even with her retained movement (Return to Omashu). This implies the paths between or out of the chakras is blocked. Bloodbending completely manipulates veins and muscles in the body by way of water/blood (The Puppetmaster). You can imagine the damage this can do. It's like blocking the paths between the pools in that cave in The Guru...completely. It's permanent without extensive repair.

It's been a while since I watched Korra, but I do believe Amon's ability to remove bending from people was explained. At least, it was very clear to me that it was because he could bloodbend, that he blocks the channels that people use within their bodies to activate their bending powers (chi blocking).
I could be wrong that it was explained but idk, to me it was always clear at the very least.
It's also why Korra could undo it

  • @danielmunoz1275
    @danielmunoz1275 ปีที่แล้ว +1

There isn't a clear explanation as to how exactly did Amon's blood-bending could take bending away; however, the most reasonable and agreed theory is the following: Chi blockers such as Ty Lee in ATLA could numb a person's body and block their ability to bend by hitting pressure points. The logic goes like this, if external damage to the pressure points can block the flow of chi preventing bending temporarily, it stands to logic that a lot more can be done INTERNALLY. In other words, Amon used his mastery over blood-bending to internally block the flow of chi and since he did it from the inside he made sure to make this block physically permanent. This would also explain why everyone who got their bending taken away by Amon went numb, weak, and frail over their bodies, because he's internally blocking many pressure points at once.
The exact reason why Korra was able to retain air-bending, but the other three were locked would be a spoiler right now; however, what I can say right now is that Korra was blocked spiritually by fear and expectations, she was afraid of losing her bending, but when it finally happened and she saw Mako in danger about to suffer the same fate she was liberated of said fear. Air is the element of freedom, right at the moment expectations didn't matter, and she had already lost what she valued most in her, she was ready to air-bend. At the very end, what restored all her bending was her connection to Aang the the Avatar's past life. Just like the Lion-Turtle said "before we bended the elements, we bended the energy within ourselves." It was thanks to the energy of the Avatar's past lives that her chi flow was restored, and she can do the same with the Avatar state for everyone else. These are the most sound explanations in my opinion.

Idk if anyone explained it to you guys since you watched this, but Amon used bloodbending to block chi flow by clotting the blood in different areas of the body. Combustion bending wasnt explained either. Bending is an art not a science. Don’t expect complex breakdowns like in anime lol.
If u want a fan answer, from what we infer, the blood bending was used to damage their chakra points. Basically used blood bending to chi block or rather chi lock.
Only reason he was able to do it is because he was a master of blood bending and a master of chi blocking. Just like Uncle Iroh making lightning reduction, he made that technique as a solution to combat other benders, take them out but not kill them.

  • @ozanaba6631

Actually Amon takes benders power by disrupting their chi with bloodbending. Chi blocking can temporarily inhibit a bender from using their bending, but disrupting the chi takes the power. That why, he blended his blood bending technic with chi blocking in order to take away bendings.

29:54 I thought that by using bloodbending he blocked the chakra points inside the body so you couldnt built up the chakra to bend. So in regards to her airbending. I think that basically she did lose all of her bending abilities at the time that Amon did that to her. When he was about to take Mako's bending, her airbending finally unlocked out of desperation.
Also in regards to Amon ending people's bending. I think he uses bloodbending to permanently block people's chis. Similar to chiblocking, but instead of physically hitting the pressure points, he "hits" them with bloodpending to permanently block them.

  • @richmaxmchalliwchester1984
    @richmaxmchalliwchester1984 ปีที่แล้ว

I'm not sure if it there was any explanation by creators why Korra couldn't airbend but i have my own theory.
When Azula shot Aang with the lightning she blocked his chakras and that's why he couldn't enter avatar state again till his fight with Ozai when rock hit that spot. What if it had bigger consequences than just that? What if it blocked airbending for the next avatar because she shot the airbender avatar (Aang)? So what if Amon accidentally unblocked her airbending when he was blocking other 3 elements?
I think someone already wrote this and you probably already know this but i'll write it still. Amon used bloodbending with some knowledge of anatomy. Chi-blockers needs to hit some certain parts to block your bending for some time. He probably used bloodbending to permanently block those spots of chi and that's how he could take away bending. That's why i think while he was blocking other elements he accidentally unblocked airbending.

Amon was a con man. His entire plan was dependent on the trust of the people that he had built upon a lie. With the lie exposed, the con was over. The situation was unsalvageable, and he was smart enough to realize that. He'd lost all of his power. It wasn't a quick change of heart; it was the immediate acceptance of the fact that he'd lost, and his only option was to cut and run. The only thing he had left was his brother, for whom he once cared very much for.

I suspect that Amon is essentially doing a permanent chi block on the benders. this prevents them from bending and is a logical ability to exist as chi blocking is already an established ability.

My theory on how bloodbending takes away your bending is that he somehow manages to cut off the blood to the part of the brain that's responsible for bending or something along those lines

The reason bloodbending can take bending away is actually not that complicated. Some waterbenders are able to heal, right? He's basically just doing the reverse of healing. He's using waterbending to cause damage to the chakra system of his enemies.

The story is flawed. If a blooddender can take away one's bender, only another blood bender should be capable to reverse it, Avatar or not. Aang and Korra were not bloodbenders, so they shouldn't be able to reverse what Amon did.

@@azulablue6988 "only another blood bender should be capable to reverse it"
says who? You're not saying you know the lore of Avatar better than the very creators of the show do. Surely you're not.

Amon is such a good fighter becasue yes, he's practiced
But he also very subtly bloodbends his ooppnents

Yeah, Amon knew what tarlok was doing due to his blood bending and he was crying because he knew what was going to happen, he knew his brother was going to kill him and his last words about the good old days were a lie. He knew there was no going back to the good old days after everything him and tarlok had done. He simply accepted his fate.

That always kills me. I cannot imagine what was going through their heads and why Tarlok killed himself.
