Satellite images reveal China constructing a road in the Shaksgam Valley of Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir, near the Siachen Glacier, posing security concerns for India. In episode 1444 of #CutTheClutter, Editor-in-chief Shekhar Gupta discusses geopolitical ramifications of such a construction, why the government of India protested against it and what it means for the India-Pakistan-China trijunction across the Karakoram.

This time you have not cut the clutter.. you have deliberately added clutter.
      1. Your using of phrase " china controlled territory" and " territory claimed by india" are mis labelling attempts.. As a journalist from india, you ought to say indian territory period.
      2. China can never be a legitimate party or have any locus standi on kashmir. This is because, we never had border with china, we had border with tibet. And pakistan cannot transfer ownership of what it never owned. So that treaty between pak and china is legally null and void
      3. Also by quoting us state department report, you are trying to give a color of global validation to the above treaty. The report cleverly says the phrase "indian subcontinent" as if india is also a party to the so called first international agreement on kashmir. In fact while aligning with pak, the us report tried to further damage india's interests by saying as first international agreement in eyes of the world. This questions the motive of usa and shows how it had aligned itself against india.
      4. If you are so willing to see international treaties, then please also talk about the regions covered as per treaty between british crown and king ranjeet singh as part of kashmir princely state in 1830s. And not treat it as a province.

@poojasingla9693 It is not between China and India, but tibet and ladakh. No wonder chhana helped tibet protect itself by helping them take control of 2000 sq km of ladakh land. It was the result of scrapping of article 370, an agreement by which kashmir will join India as an autonomous state instead of pakistan and India redrawing a new boundary into tibet. Now the truth started on main media. It is time, to see India as it is. lesson on india- contract has no value. They renegade or always renegotiate if they still don't have the upperhand completely.. Bad for you if you have sunk in money or effort or land. Too bad Kashmiris!

Shaksgam valley is situated North of Karakoram as well as on the Northern side of watershed line. K2 also makes part of this watershed line. Water from Northern face of K2 and Shaksgam valley drains into Yarkent river towards North. Settlement of border issue between Pakistan and China was largely along the natural watershed line, except a small area north of Shimshal pass, which China ceded to Pakistan, because historically people of Shimshal valley used to graze their herds in that area in summer.

Which has to be devoid of any personal point of view of the journalist, just report the facts as it is, nothing less nothing more. Atleast thats what was taught until 2003 when I completed my mass comm. Remember the DD days, early modern satellite news days. Now even the journalists are supposed to pick sides, which is not journalism, its jingoism and propaganda in media & journalism books. I am great admirer of PV Narsimharao, Indira Gandhi, Vajpayee, Modi, VP Singh and even Rajiv Gandhi. However, Nehru was a disaster. Nehruvian Socialism destroyed Indian entrepreneurship (practically killed the "Indian dreams"). Nehruvian Geopolitics benefitted China and Pakistan more than us. Special thanks to VK Krishna Menon and Pran Nath Thapar for our current China problems.

I think blaming Nehru for everything is a fashion nowadays. Nehru died in 1964 ( sixty years ago). India has had opportunities to set things right and it has done it under various leaders, but some people blame it on Nehru, like a broken record. It's best not to pay attention to these people.
Japan progressed as a country after 1946 disaster. They didnt waste time by blaming Americans all the time. They did fix the problems. In India even after 100 years from now people will blame Nehru. Cry babies...

    • @sankalp6872

@@cyk2668 You think wrong. There is nothing wrong in holding leaders of the past accountable so that future generations do NOT REPEAT those mistakes. Also, FYI Japan was NOT ruled by the US. In fact, both Japan and Germany's recovery was aided by the US (through US Capital by a process called Capital deepening). By his blunder of state controlled Nehruvian socialism (which was only exaceberrated to almost Communism by his daughter Indira), Nehru condemned India to poverty. India did not receive any major capital inflows during this time, while even Pakistan prospered. Even China abandoned its "communist" project in the 80s. India started out as the world's 6th largest economy at the time of independence (in 1950). By 1990, it fell to 12th. Only post liberalization through concerted efforts of PV Narsimharao, Vajpayee, MMS (although UPA 2 was a disaster), and Modi; India has made a comeback to the 5th place.

At Sakshgam Valley, we command the heights. Indira Col West is great place for 155 MM artillery. Also in summer time, Sakshgam valley becomes a lake thanks to glacial melting. I don't know how Chinese can use the valley offensively. BTW, search for Gunner's shot's take on the same topic. The General presents a more grounded take on the issue.

I was about to bring up Gen. Shankar's channel. Its sad that Indian journalists dont really get how well fortified the Indian position is on the glaciar. Climbing up the Siachen glaciar has been impossible for Pakistan since decades, Gen Musharaf lead his special forces when he was younger and was crushed. He masterminded the Kargil incursions in his later days to try and mess with the Indian logistics to the Siachen, as he wanted to negotiate by holding the supply lines hostage.
At the current state, PLA is not at all ready to do high altitude mountain warfare, Indian troops are well accilmated while the chinese need external oxygen tanks in to survive in all their high altitude posts. Its impossible for them to climb up and face the horrible situation on the glaciar, as its common for people to just drop dead if they are not acclimated, the General did two great sessions with the man who lead the SIachen deplyment after the Col. Kumar (Bull)'s famous first expedition to the Glaciar. We get to hear the first hand accounthow trecharous it is for the men posted on the glaciar to serve there and what it takes to not just drop dead. Forget about combat, the PLA cannot even survive on the glaciar, its called the third pole for a reason
The chinese cannot cross the valley in summer as the valley becomes a lake due to melting snow and Its impregnable in the winters due to the coild. Nothing to worry about security wise, no mainstream journalist gets this.
Gen. Shankar's channel is a boon for folks who want to get first hand info on the Geopolitical, Secutiry and Stategic issues from Indian perspective.

@@p.srihariraju I picked up the glacial flooding from the Gen. Shankar. The rest was evident from the topological map. Shaksgam valley is not the sector of our vulnerability - we have other more higher priority ones that need real attention. What's the state of DBO road? What's the state of Nyoma airfield? What's the status on Frontier Highway on Arunachal Pradesh? What is the status of our weapons' stockpile? Good journalism should address these things instead of picking a topic that the Chinese wants us to see.
