Just got my 22 300 SM and did the mods right away, I love that bike. I probably should have commented on your Kawasaki video which was the first one I watched . Yeah I will agree with others that at a 100 miles get gas yep! The 300 SM gets around 78 MPG and with a 1.9 gal tank that will give you about 20 to 25 mile reserve .
I’ve gotten to the point where I pay attention to my Trip odo and just try to fill up if I’m over 75 miles and. Seems to work out pretty good for keeping me off the side of the road haha
i got a drz400. heavily modded it for highway and commuting, u need a big 5 gallon tank if ur planning on doing long trips. even though i can prob get 140, i still get gas around 100
It was a frustrating then into “oh geez I’m an idiot” 8 seconds. But it has made me get into the habit of setting my trip on all my bikes every time I get gas, so some good came from it!
20 some years ago on my first bike a Bandit 600 I ran out of gas - I literally pushed the bike about 1/2 a mile in 90 degree heat before another biker stopped to see what’s up - he asked “used the reserve too, eh?” ………… I said “reserve?” …… and that was the day I learned that I had a petcock. 😂 How’s that for a newb story?
Lesson learned when you have that my bike check your chain, fule, tires and air before riding. I have a big stable of bikes and always do a good pre-check before riding, safety first. 😈
Shoot I don’t blame the drz one bit, my own fault. Definitely wasn’t the last time I’ve stretched a tank out to far and had to switch over to reserve haha
It does not, not fuel gauge or anything. does have "on" and "reserve" so when it ran out of gas I could switch it to reserve for the last little bit in the tank

So I have a Ducati scrambler that, the DRZ is mainly for fun hooligan stuff around town, don’t know that I could sit on that seat for a longer trip
2021 DRZ400SM stranded me on the freeway for nearly 8 seconds!

DRZ has 2.0 gallons in the main. 0.6 gallons in reserve. So you’ve still got a good 25 miles using the reserve.
Don't blame the drz. You literally ran out of gas

Most I've got so far is 110 miles per tank I could probably have gone a few miles more but I was scared of not finding a gas station in time
Got the same bike, at least now I know how many miles on a full tank!
Good rule of thumb 100 miles per tank
Yeah I’ve started doing the trip reset every time I fill up. Anytime I’m about 75 miles on the trip and close to a gas station, I swing in and top off
Yup me too
you guys need a cardo pack talk or sena 50k
Wow your garage is full of good stuff. Does the Drz have any kind of emergency fuel light or anything?
