I disagree with everyone saying vocals were weak. I think the band carried through perfectly and the shyness in the vocals definitely suit the situation and lyrics. Very emotional, and I think they pulled it off perfectly. Mogwai rules!!!

Damn it's been like 10 years since I've seen mogwai when I was in NYC and I need to see them again. Been listening since 1998ish

It sounded great in the room on the night. Shame the broadcast doesn't do it justice...Great band!

indeed, mogwai they are not vocal personas, they are musical genius with conventional instruments, and unconventional ideas

I love Mogwai, love this song, and they are fantastic live. But this? How have the sound guys messed this up so badly. Who is responsible for it? BBC? WTF.

Apparently the lyrics are about David berman, the singer of silver jews who killed himself in 2019. Really heartbreaking

i like this version. love the vocals too, slightly too loud and a bit out of tune. not pre-fabricated like most tv shows. ads a bit more like watching the band live.

Love the song, studio version is great. The band is fine here also but I think the singer is singing in a register which is uncomfortable (too low maybe?) for him.

Braithwaite's voice is slightly out of tune at times -- which is disappointing, as it is an excellent song by a great group.

BBC live sounds are atrocious, nice to see it's not limited to festivals Mogwai should've won. Have the majors corrupted the Mercury's too #justlikethebrits

i love Mogwai...but this song is so pop out of range.. they should have play ceiling granny which is more their own identity.

Seen them live three times. Always amazing. Never been a fan of their vocal tracks though. His voice sounds weak here.

    • @ldom9039
      @ldom9039 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

The singer (Stuart) is not a singer. This is not a song that's representative of Mogwai and clearly the sound engineer didn't do them any favours...

    • @mdg1867

@@ldom9039 I don't think any sound engineer could have made those vocals sound decent

Should've played a better track. This one is bland as fuck and Stuart needs to stop singing. Have some guest singers like Gruff and Aiden

Sounds superb on disc. My track of the year. From a Slowdive fan.

I saw them live this summer and this track was also great live , the mixing of the BBC is the problem here ... And normally there’s an effect on Stuart’s voice which is not here .

    • @marsatlov6858

Lol sounds ruthless for a fan to say somethin like that. I can see ya pep talkin the boys in the back over a beer before the show ‘don’t play a bland as fuck song boys and Stuart don’t fuckin sing not even a word’ now GO GET EM
