DOC! Thanks for life! i literally was Rocky today. Started MTG in january 2024 cuz i got 2 packs of Doctor Who mtg. The Doc here showed me what MTG was with his video as 7th Doc Sylvester Mccoy... and TODAY months later : 2-1, 2-0, 0-2. Shortened 13 players swiss tournament. My 1st prerelease. My first irl wins! White& Blue. I won 2 rounds vs the overall players ending in position 6 & 7. Lost to the 2nd position owner. 1 & 2 had 3-0, i was the best of 2-1 players. Got a 3 pack bonus from the wins. Traded a card for a foil chainsaw + 5 uncommons
LGS owner here - absolutely top notch, Prof! I played this video on loop all day as people came in and bought Duskmourn, and got ready for PreRelease! Everyone who watched it agreed, this is some of your best stuff! Keep up the good work!
I genuinely appreciate the way you make your content newbie friendly. A lot of channels just assume I already know most of the concepts and after 4 nights at my lgs i can confidently say.....I know nothing outside of the newest sets and sometimes its REALLY hard to keep up. So thank you for sinplifying it for me
Just went to a midnight prerelease last night, and surprisingly, I did well with a Naya Manifest Dread deck. It was my first one in years. It was a lot of fun!
Went to a Duskmourn prerelease yesterday, my first prerelease/sealed event ever! I made many mistakes, but it was very fun! Everyone was nice and the cards were engaging. I ended up with a black/white reanimation type deck with a tiny bit of blue splashed in. Won two matches, lost two.
Blue answers were amazing. My promo was the "cant be blocked 1/1 which has 3 modes when causing damage to a player... won me games. 2-1, 2-0, 0-2.
@@dbmillanI was playing a bit of black green manifest dread / delirium - enchantment removal given rooms and white enchantments putting cards into exile. Insidious Fungus is a great 1 drop. For 2 and sac can deal with artifacts, enchantments, or card draw. Withering Torment is feed the swarm at instant speed and horrid vigor is death touch and indestructible protection removal for 2 at instant speed. Classic murder was always helpful whenever it was in my hand. Hope that helps and have a great pre-release!

I never comment on videos, but I feel like I have to now. I've been playing magic since 2019 and following around the same time, and tonight I won my first pre-release event ever thanks to your guide (and a little bit of luck and skills of course) and I wanted to thank you. I won with a simic manifest dread splashed with black.
Pre release is always fun...I go in feeling like Rocky.Telling myself I'm gonna be at the veterans, they can't be saved by 1000 elves,Teferi protection, and all the other bs they've accumulated over past 7-10+ years I've never seen or heard of😂I started with Midnighthunt/Crimson Vow. So yeah let's go,tonight's my Night!!!

Prof! Please, PLEASE make a Two-Headed Giant 2HG Sealed guide. I feel like NO ONE has done zone and given how much reach your channel has, it would be greatly impactful!
YESS THANK YOU PROF! The bloomburrow vid was so helpful for a guy who's last pre release was dragons of tarkir. I was hoping these would continue! Thank you again!
here was my nutty play at my local prerelease: Cast Ghostly dancers on t5 and with its trigger fully unlock a room that makes a glimmer enchantment, which triggers its eerie ability twice, making 2 3/1 fliers. t6, cast Mirror Room targeting Ghostly Dancers--first ghostly dancers triggers, creating a 3/1 flier, then the copy ghostly dancers hits the board and triggers the other half of mirror room--Fractured Realm. Upon the room being fully unlocked, both Ghostly Dancers eerie ability triggers and because of Fractured Realm they trigger again, making 4 more 3/1 fliers. My opponent scooped after watching my play pop off but t7 I had Overlord of the Mistmoors to cast on curve...which would have made 4 more 3/1 fliers from each Ghost Dancer, then it would have made 4 2/1 fliers itself...needless to say my board went HELLA wide. I also managed to get a flavor win with 8 unlocked doors and the "You Win the Game" room, Promising Stairs, by turtling to 4 out of 5 extra turns. So awesome.
This was super helpful - hit my lgs for the prerelease and went 3-1 using your tips! It was nice to know a few really good cards before going in so I could recognize without reading everything and thinking about interactions, this set had a lot of VERY wordy cards lol.
I already attended my prerelease (I'm from Australia) and this set is so fun! So many of the cards are evocative and pretty much all of the art is amazing (the full art lands? Oh my God!) It was also my first prerelease and I am so glad I went!
Im trying to get back into MTG, and came straight here for info for drafting. Always loved your video production for whatever MTG thing I needed to learn about. Thank you!
Thanks, Prof! Bloomburrow was my first pre-release, and I've been so excited for this set. I did NOT do well during bloomburrow, but ive been studying and trying to learn as many functions and mechanics before i go tomorrow for the event
I've only ever been to one other pre release, I can't wait for this one. The format seems really fun, though. I'm really hoping for any blue pair, especially blue green or blue black
I just wanted to say that after playing EDH for a few years (online tabletop) and watching hundreds of hours of your videos, I decided to find an LGS while traveling and draft tonight! It was so much fun
Prof!! This was my first prerelease I’ve done since Khans of Tarkir; back when I first started. I ended up winning due to you calling out the red/black sacrifice cards.
Just played my first pre release! I lost pretty hard but it was fun, I love this channel because I feel like it’s one of the only channels that goes so in depth about all topics magic.
This will be my first pre release and first time playing someone else than my gf! So I am really nervous but excited at the same time 😅 hope I win at least one
your bloomburrow guide was super helpful. been profiting gems on mtg arena drafts thanks to it and ranking up. looking forward to this sunday for the prerelease! reanimator looks like the hardest archetype to get the cards for, im leaning towards delirium or survival being the strongest
I really appreciate these videos. The BLB video helped me greatly before my last prerelease. I am confident this one will pay off tonight as well. Thanks!!
This is super on the money! Opened two Valgavoth's Onslaught, they were absolute bombs. One thing to consider, with all the self-milling and the somewhat grindier format, be aware not to deck yourself! Manifest Dread takes 2 cards out of your library every time you do it, before you know it you'll have less than 10 cards left! Trust me, it can happen to YOU!
Thanks Prof, this will be a great help for my first prerelease in a long time. Felt good to revisit some of the first videos I ever watched on your channel. Enjoy your day! -W
Love love love this content. Also loved the video you posted awhile back about the current standard, going to have to go rewatch it. I'd love to get into standard
I attended a prerelease event last night and was worried when i got 7 rares total and spread over the colours, but focusing in on eerie worked super well i did have to go 4 colours but it worked so much better than id of thought… i managed to come first!
i rly hoped i could go prerelease this weekend but i just dont feel healthy enough :( its such a shame i managed to go last time its always so muxh fun
I played my first duskmourn prerelease this morning and had an absolute blast, plus I managed to pull a pretty good batch of cards. Rakdos is REALLY fun with this set
I ended up going jeskai by focusing on enchantments since I didn't get any bomb game enders but I got a ton of rooms that just valued me to a 2-1 night. Pulled meathook 2 and the green overlord from my prize pack at the end of the night so it was definitely a good end
I know some folks are put off by the modern (well 1980s modern) stuff being integrated into the plane, but I honestly like a lot of the card designs I have seen in this set! I feel like they add some fun stuff to classic color combination strategies
Gonna try White/Black when Duskmourn releases on Arena. I would've liked this to be my first time going to a Magic event in person but chaotic doesn't even begin to describe how life is right now.
oh my god i absolutely LOVE my home brew Arabella/Ojer Axonil/Warleader's Call deck, it's my first time playing ranked constructed in mtga and i'm getting some good results
The problem is there are too many variations in types of play mechanics within the same venue. If you aren't very familiar with a specific type of play as in rooms, etc then it makes it too difficult to keep track of what your opponents are doing mid game. When we first started playing this game, the rules were all the same and everyone played the same way just with different strategies.
I wish i was able to go to a pre release. Mtg is so damn expensive looking at a cool ass card game like this but not getting payed enough to be able to buy stuff like this and stay financially good after is so damn depressing. Hope for whoever gets to go to pre release has a good time and enjoys their box
Went into my LGS's prerelease, it was my first ever, and went in blind. Went 2-1 playing jund. Grievous Wound is absolutely devastating if you don't have enchantment removal or if you're playing lifelink
Hello Prof! I am hoping after this video and the other video that you have done about play boosters if we could get lessons learned about the drafting experience differs from draft experiences in the past. I mostly curious about how currently it seems like there is more uncommon cards than common cards and if that means that a draft can more easily rely on seeing commons over and over again as the backbone of their tech or due to the loss of forced colors being impacts, if that is something that is actually more difficult and something on which players can rely on less than they used to be before. Where we used to look at comments to decide drafting capabilities, should we be looking at uncommon now instead? I’m curious about your thoughts on this After your pre-release experience with the newest rendition of play boosters.
I played Blue/Black with splash red. Felt like a prowess deck. Pulled and ran nearly all 13 rooms and had an abundance of black/blue eerie cards. Defiled Crypt should not be slept on. Easy to trigger, and triggers eerie, cause the horror is an enchantment.

Thanks for the video! Had a blast at my first pre-release party at the LCS!
The color pair breakdowns really help
Thanks for the video, Professor. I'm going to my first draft in nearly 10 years tomorrow at my LGS, and I really appreciate the breakdown.
Made it to a draw in the finals yesterday in DHG. Arabella and manifest dread goes hard.
I really appreciate these videos. The BLB video helped me greatly before my last prerelease. I am confident this one will pay off tonight as well. Thanks!!
Going to my first pre-release in 3 hours, thank you prof for helping me get into this hobby and the lovely reccomendations.

This will be my first pre-release or any magic event in general. The horror themes really pulled me in, and I cannot wait to start playing in 13 hrs!

Funny you highlight the Shroudstomper. I won multiple games off that last night. That enter/attack ability is deadly. Took a 4th place overall.
Slowly nodding my head listening to the guide at work when the Professor drops pyroclasm by name - WAIT WHAT!?! I am happy to see it being reprinted
I've just been getting pre-release boxes. I think it's perfect for drafting with a friend especially if you don't want to spend too much money.
Thanks for a great draft guide Prof!
Gonna try White/Black when Duskmourn releases on Arena. I would've liked this to be my first time going to a Magic event in person but chaotic doesn't even begin to describe how life is right now.
a great intro to dusk mourn! I might try a draft this weekend after all!!! I feel prepared :)
First prerelease that I've ever been able to attend, can't wait!
It's always great to see some limited guide videos from prof.
i went 3-1 at my first prerelease thanks to this vid, thanks tolarian!
Always love this series of videos Prof! Love how you explain things both new player and veteran player friendly! Appreciate you so much man! ❤️🤘

Did well at prerelease tonight went 2-1 with red/white with a splash of green for ramp.really enjoyed the limited for this set.

Important note that unlocking a door on the battlefield is a special action and doesn't use the stack so can't be responded to.
Just stomped my pre release with Boros agro. Turns out 3 Arabella and a balloon man are pretty good things to build around.
This helps with my Jumpstart pack building for this set
Yes, i needed more reanimator cards for my Elenda the Duskrose commander deck!

And just like that, I’m suddenly very excited for the set to drop! Idk how I missed this was an enchantress set😅
Watching this 30 minutes before I go to my local prerelease thanks prof.
Finally!!!! Three color mentions!!!!
Nice tie, prof !!!
Went into my LGS's prerelease, it was my first ever, and went in blind. Went 2-1 playing jund. Grievous Wound is absolutely devastating if you don't have enchantment removal or if you're playing lifelink
If you play enchantment removal against a room do you remove both?
Yes because they’re both one card. It’s like removing a class/talent, it has multiple parts but it’s just one card.
Another PR I am going to miss out on. JOMO , Joy Of Missing Out !
🤘🦁🤘
Thanks Brian 🎉
I think I didn't put as much time preparing for any exams as I did for my first sealed event 😅 Thanks for the help
I haven't drafted in ages, rlly wanna tho
4:13 archetypes for my reference ❤
I ran a blue black green shell with red and white to cast mizzit in murders at karlov manner. Green for ramp blue for card draw and black for removal.

Thanks Prof.
Watching this on the way home from my first ever pre-release (and mtg event in general) - Lets see what I did wrong 😂
