  • Daithí Regan joined The Saturday Panel ahead of the All-Ireland final and reflected on his memories of Offaly's All-Ireland win 25 years ago in 1994 and how they lacked the "ruthlessness" to win more.

Daithi in '86 was a truly brilliant minor full forward. Good for two goals a game
on that Offaly team and he scored the winning goal against Cork in the final.

Offalys all Irelands of the 90s were luck in all fairness, limerick had them beaten with 5 mins to go and in 98 Clare were by far the best team in Ireland... The all Irelands of the 80s were more deserved

Scoring 2-5 in fives minutes is not luck.

Look, I hear what you’re saying but they won by 6 in ‘94. That margin can’t be due to good luck, they just blew Limerick away late on.
I’d be inclined to agree about ‘98. They rode their luck so many times, against Wexford and against Clare. Clare would rightly feel it should’ve been theirs.
‘95 was one they were unlucky in though, Clare got the breaks that day and were there for the taking.
      It’s all ifs and buts.

1993 was another one they left behind. DJ Carey was allowed to run 20 yards without hopping the ball to score the winning goal in the Leinster final. In 94 and 95 we hammered Kilkenny.
