  • In this edition of the Buckeye Weekly Podcast, Tony Gerdeman and Tom Orr spend some time talking about that team up north. Michigan beat up on Hawai'i as everyone expected, so the fellas spend most of the show talking about Wolverines quarterback JJ McCarthy. Is he the most dangerous Michigan quarterback the Buckeyes have ever faced? What makes him so dangerous? Why is he the right answer for Michigan? Will he be able to perform against an actual defense this year? All of these topics are discussed and more.

As a michigan fan I appreciate your guys' generally "neutral" and mostly fair assessments. Slappys from both sides really make it hard to be a fan with realistic views of the comparisons between the teams that make up the greatest rivalry in sports. We as fans win when both teams are (at least potentially) great, which i believe they both are currently, and I can't wait until November. Good luck boys and I'll see you in the shoe 〽️

I grew up in Toledo, and have loved ones that are super fans of both squads, and it's sad when we can't even all enjoy it together in the name of competition and bloodsport. Because when done properly, it's literally one of the best days of the year! That is at least until after the game when half are pissed off lol

@@blankname6629 I understand what you mean, and I am not saying the things stated are the absolute truth or anything of the nature. My point being is of course they are going to try and identify the mistakes. They are supporters of the rival. I also would critique their team just as much. Especially given that I believe they are not the juggernaut that fair weather media portrays. That said, I can still be enough of a fan of football to acknowledge how good the opponents team is as a whole, as well as the potential of their roster. I do believe Michigan is on par though. And while I would never make a video with nothing but glowing reviews and gawk over the things they do well, I am big enough to admit what they are. I am also big enough to hear the things they say and respect opinions that are not like my own. I don't expect them to gush over Michigan, just as well knowing I'd never gush over their team. It's college football. Just enjoy the ride and don't be so sensitive to people's beliefs. Just anticipate our team proving them wrong is all. #TheGame will be a fun one I think

    Short answer: Yes
He was a 5 star for a reason and does everything better than Cade by a substantial margin, including throwing deep and being a true run threat. This is the QB I have been waiting for since Harbaugh got hired. I still think a loss in Columbus is more likely than not, because I am a realist and respect how scary good OSU can be this year. But OSU fans can't deny they're about to face the best Wolverine QB of the Harbaugh era, and it's really not close.

I think it really remains to be seen. Harbaugh likes a run first offense, which honestly both qb's can operate effectively. I don't think you all should expect him to be a finished product 1 start into his career.

Yea JJ is the guy for The Wolverines. I screamed this last week and I think they finally keep him in, He is just the Guy and that team really looks different with him. He is going to make some great plays in 'The Game' and that is something I want as a Buckeye.. I want this Rivalry to mean something, with the best players in college football. Not Worried, or scared because I've lived through getting the W against Chad Henne, Mike Hart and Mario Manningham Etc... I just want a classic battle in the trenches and both teams seasons on the line, the way it should be.

Michigan fan here this is my second week watching you guys and great job on being objective and fair about our team. You really can't judge JJ until after the MSU game IMO. MSU will have enough game tape on him and it will be a good test for their defensive scheme they will present to him.
By the way....that hit on Hawaii QB you were talking about I thought the same thing as far as the QB being hurt real bad. Yikes 😬

    • @jamesureel2853

Actually the Iowa game is where you can judge him. They have no offense but their entire defense is legit especially the secondary.
MSU isn’t a good barometer because the secondary is still bad and the linebackers are only slightly improved. Msu could be the best win at the time but PSU is literally the game before. Could be back to back ranked wins if all goes well

As an Ohio State fan that grew up with Woody and Bo, you have to respect the greatness of both programs over time. That being said, I thought Michigan would fall off this year. I know Michigan is opening with three high school teams, but they look really good. I thought the game at Iowa might trip them up but I forgot Iowa has no QB, OC, or concept of offense. I think we will have two 11-0 teams playing on 11-26-22. A close game SHOULD get the Big Ten two playoff teams. Georgia looks tough but Bama looks like a 2 or 3 loss team. God Bless and go Bucks!

As a Michigan fan, I agree with the Drew Henson comparison. Drew Henson had a rifle of an arm with accuracy, and he was mobile. He also made throws from a crossed his body like JJ did last year. But I disagree that he didn't pan out. He had a great year offensively in 2000, especially at Columbus that year where he lit it up. The problem was that the years team had a bad defense that gave up 2 18-point leads in the 2nd half that season.

Hopefully he can continue to protect the football well. OSU I feel like had more talent last season and couldn’t get it done. Only advantage I feel they have this season is the game is in Columbus. Yes, Stroud is good, Njigba is good, and Henderson is good and I’m not taking that away from OSU, but I don’t think their defense is ready for Michigan offense, and our defense is developing nicely so far.
