So many of these pop songs follow the same formula with the same four notes too. It's like a bunch of repetitions of the same note, followed by a quick drop down to the lowest note at the end of the bar, and then just repeat that forever. It's always reminded me of the stupid little taunting songs 5 year olds will sing to insult each other. Like, that's pretty good for a five year old, but very sad for the most popular music in the world
Eh, bot everything has to be innovating in every aspect of it. I was just talking with my friend (that's a BIG Weeknd fan) about how he does have his patterns, and i agree he's repetitive, he has some banger production and lyrics.
Nothing new or specific to pop. Sure, today's pop is a particularly bad offender, but it's been same since blues and gospel and on back to to every type of music since the beginning of time lol. It works because it sounds good and moves us...and because there's a pretty limited number of combinations that do that. So yeah, the same patterns don't have a choice exept to repeat themselves over and over.
Exactly! Sounds like" ring around the daisies" type 2 - 3 notes kindergarten annoying shit. Maybe people are so anxious nowadays that they need to be nursed to sleep?
@@iankellymorris Music will sound more simple and the same then. Less variation = more formulaic = more boring. That already becomes obvious with this example. WEEKND more like ACDE
More like DECADE
AC/DC is a different artist altogether. 😂
@@kylemacdougall8355 he’s referencing the notes that are being played in the songs LOL

When your Midi controller is broken except for 4 of the keys😂
That's why his name is missing an E. There weren't enough E's left over after his songs were done.
but he was playing D's tho?
@@jayhu2296he was born with a D so it should be fineeee

Well, that's never leaving my head
The power of the supertonic.
?
The short is from the video mentioning the power of the supertonic.
@@shadowemblem. Oh
The supertonic in most of these songs is B°, not Dm.
Yup yup yup. There’s a whole video breaking down all the songs that use a supertonic ^^
Educational burns are the best
Well it makes sense to use them, when they match your voice.
there are a hell of a lot of other notes that match his voice
Well i mean ya if you pitch the songs to the same key its the same 4 notes

@EricJohnson-fh8zj , 3 notes "niahniahniah" stuff though? Add to this no emotion whatsoever? Nah, it's never been THAT minimalist.
whoa i’ve never been this early. God bless the supertonic
This perfect, if you, like me, want to learn how to create melodies :D More of that please!
is that talent they all talking about 🔥🔥🔥🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️
You can probably extend this to most pop music
I come back to the video this short comes from at least once every 6 months, more of this please
are these all originally in C or were they transposed
we stan a man with routine
Gotta love a major pentatonic scale
this is minor pentatonic 😅
He's a pop artist.
They literally ALL do this.
yes the full video this comes from acknowledges this
I think I remember telling my dad that LANY's songs always sound the same, with like the same vibe, and the same key of G#/Ab Major
but that applies for some of their hits, mainly Good Girls and Super Far
@@tto0508 👍
Just wait until they discover the rest of the keyboard, then it's over for all y'all 🙃
It’s because they are the only notes he can sing
Me when im fucking dumb
4 notes is all you need
A Minorrrrrrrrrrr
This just made me give up on music tbh… what’s the point of even trying anymore when this makes millions.
I wasn't wrong when comparing this kind of lame stuff to nursery rhymes... it's literally just that 😂
Thats his entire vocal range
Crazy
Shoot - my natural register is like an F or something lol. (Bar the 3rd fret on the guitar and that’s the key of my voice).
took me until halfway to realize this is andrew huang lol
*The SUPERTONIC ;)
Where my 4 note barbershop at?
Feeling so justified as a hater
That's one way to create your own style, ha.
How the Fuck has no one noticed this yet.
And a majority have the same rhythm/pattern to the melody.
That makes it even more impressive knowing this haha
A weeknd better not see this theyll never be able to listen again
This is actually the curse of most songwriters, do this long enough and you realize you have a style that is hard to break away from, quite common.
And yet I've heard it said pop music is becoming melodically more simplistic... hard to believe
More like "you can ALMOST do the rap parts of some The Weeknd songs with the same four notes".
Will this be enough to change this? (Please!)
Is this from the Supertonic video?
Pretty sure Blinding Lights does something similar with its melody.
Basically, just transposed to a different key
Yeah, but with one extra note for the full pentatonic scale
That's exactly the problem, pop music is so boring 😂
Maybe I should try staking to only 4 notes. 🤔
😂 no way
A lot of his songs are just redoing working older hits in a way no one notices
😂
Who is he? Heavy D?
He basically reuploads the same song with different thumbnails and a different clickbait title over and over and no-one cares.
I still enjoy his music 🤷🏽♂️
Stick to what you know...
A
Rach had the add 9, the weeknd an add 11?
WEEKND IS NOT 2 DAYS
Well, this explains why all of his songs have always sounded the same to me...
by all you mean the some mainstream songs? cuz this does not apply to most of his songs.
Some of those didn’t seem like they were the notes you were showing.
Almost all music uses the same 12 notes, though.
Bro's got no range ig
have you even heard his discography?
the weeknd is so trash idek why anyone listens to it
This is why I don't do pop
When you have an extremely limited vocal range.
People calling someone who's comfortable in 3 octaves and can go up to 4 octaves "extremely limited" vocal range😂
Listen to more of his songs
@@owwallace182 I'd rather not.
The exact reason why nowadays' music has become so bad. And that's not even some rant, we're talking scientific facts here.
How do fewer notes equate to worse music _objectively?_
