The cage is representative of NF's mind and his secrets he lets us into slowly. He lets people into his mind a little at a time (we see him taking pictures with fans in the cage). Also, the door being locked with him holding the keys is symbolic of him having the tools to to escape his thoughts, depression, and anxiety; he just hasn't discovered how to fully open his mind and to let people in to be vulnerable again. He's scared to be hurt again and keeps his cage under lock and key. Furthermore, his mansion is about to be unlocked. He is opening his door to let his fans in, but it also opens the door to criticism (Rolling Stone article). When he opens his door to the cage, it turns into a shopping cart with burdens (black balloons) still taken with him. The shopping cart is his mobile prison, representing the limitations of his mind. He later describes his younger self and his mind as freed, and not a place of limitation in another track. Also, I think the cage represents fame. He's on display like a zoo animal and can't escape it. He doesn't want fame, but it comes with the deal and he doesn't know how to navigate that yet and to let people fully into his realm. All his fans are in the cage with him at the end, because he has helped them personally and they understand him. Therefore, they are in the same boat.
