Best sitcom ever ….
What a treat!! If you get all of Sid's double-talk earnestly transcribed into subtitles for the hearing impaired. Just push the 'CC' button.
I was born in the mid-60s. When I was growing up some of the stars from the 50s were familiar to me because they were still on TV or talked about. I guess I knew Sid Caesar's name, but I knew nothing about him. He had basically disappeared by then. I did not realize until recently how good he was, one of the best. Thanks for posting this here.
Same here (although I've got a decade on you!). I "discovered" Sid Caesar only three years ago. Since then, I've watched every episode of Your Show of Shows that can currently be seen at the Paley Center in New York, some 137 of them. There was simply no comedian of his era as multi-talented as he was. --kjh
I was born in 51 and only recently discovered this. I knew about their later careers. Caesar faded young after being the king of comedy for a decade. He didn't handle it well. A familiar story. I have hours and hours to watch... If I last that long!
Sid Caesar's my all-time favorite actor, and I wish that, as you observed, he hadn't faded so early. From what I understand, he never took an acting class. . . but he was quintessentially "Method" to his core and could've been a sensational character actor in his later years. He looked enough like DeNiro that sometimes I fantasize about them playing father and son in some imaginary flick directed by Kazan, Coppola or Scorsese. Sadly, it never happened. I'm glad Sid was able to finally lick his alcoholism and live a good long life . . . but, as is all too readily apparent from clips like this, he never got the acting recognition he truly deserved. Thanks for posting.
Oh my gosh what fun!!! Perfect, perfect, perfect. - Especially if you've seen some of the old, old films - even silents, featuring these kinds of scenarios. Every performance was just tip-top and Sid's "language" skills are so good that everyone else emulates him to a T. Carl Reiner as the traveling salesman....oh, I never had so much fun. Thanks for the wonderful memories!
Pure fun! Innocent, sweet and hysterical. Their talent filters right down from the heavens
A truly lost art!
The great Sid..
Best ever
Howard Morris acting like a cartoon character which makes sense he went on to become a cartoon voice, actor himself
O so very funny!
Carl Reiner could have played Don Corleone!
Amazing jibberish
